What were your biggest movie letdowns? (besides The Last Jedi)

Even went in with a solid drinking buzz. When we were put into the smallest screen in the
Multiplex despite it being a Friday on opening night was definitely a hint shit was going to go south. Fortunately, we were able to laugh as loud as we wanted since the theater was completely empty.

I was hyped for months... :(

I forgot about Tron Legacy. I posted my review ages ago, the first 30-40 mins is brilliant and then it turns into awfulness.

Daft Punk were a highlight. I guess the director didn't have a Clu about making a good film ammairieight guiese?

Alien Covenent, the flute scene lulz.

The egg scene was made just for the lulz. It's Riddley just laughing at anyone waiting for this movie. And i liked Prometheus...
"Come here mr. seasoned space captain whos wife and crew are getting mauled by strange alien creatures. Take a look at my not suspicious scary as hell bioegg thing after i act weird when you killed my killer Alien. Everything will be fine."

Besides TLJ/ROS and Covenant, i would go with something like Terminator 3, Indiana 4, the second new Star Trek movie (the one with CumberKahn) etc.

Eh, really? Being familiar with Alien and Aliens would've raised issues with the evolution of aliens in covenant and how they spread. And then there's just the dumb actions these characters take. 👀

For some reason I was expecting Shaw going to the home world of the alien creators and meet them or explore their world and we would learn more about them I wasn’t expecting a horror movie where the aliens kill everyone in a gruesome manner but I probably shouldn’t have been surprised I’m fine with those kinda movies I like alien/aliens, but I wanted to see Shaw again and didn’t like how they did her lol

I actually can't think of that many movies I was letdown by. I don't get that hyped up for most things and most of the terrible films I've seen I've expected to be terrible. The first ones that come to mind are the Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Avengers: Endgame. ASM2 I expected to be bad after seeing the Electro casting and the writers but I was still not expecting a disaster of that magnitude. Watching them completely destroy the only good cinematic Spider-Man was just super depressing.

Endgame was so bad it ruined the entire MCU for me. Sold all my blu-rays and figures and just have no interest in any of it anymore.

This film was hugely disappointing. Bit of background first on why I thought this, I'm not only a student of history, but 14th and 15th century England and France, especially the hundred year war, is my specialist subject. So it goes without saying that I was hyped for this film.

What a let down. First of all, the film was very confused. It couldn't decide what it wanted to be. It wanted to be based on Shakespeare Henry IV and Henry V, but didn't use any of Shakespeare's writings? But then the historical accuracy was also absolutely gash and insulting to both the French and the English.

Poor. Very poor. 4/10.

I watched this as a coming-of-age movie of a person in a singular circumstance (playboy has to man up and become a king) and loved it. I have very poor knowledge of history in the time period it's taking place in, so the inaccuracies didn't bother me.

Alien Covenant, I wanted more Prometheus

Terminator 4, I wish it had been better to have its own sequels instead of bad T2 rehashing movie after movie.

Matrix Resurrections, I thought I could ignore it if it sucked, no, it has affected the previous movies messages and concepts

The latest is Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. The Hobbit movies were quite the letdown too. The first Hobbit movie was fine, but the sequels were pretty bad, CGI filled movies. Was let down by Pacific Rim 2 too.

My biggest issue with historical films is when they're woefully inaccurate.

For example, The King gives people the impression that Henry the V was tricked into going to war with France and he was a nobel and just King. In reality, he didn't have to go to war. He went to war to boost his finances and to boost his public image at home.

Although it's difficult to hold up historical figures to modern standards, Henry V was a controversial figure even in his day. It can be debated if it was right to kill the prisoners taken at Agincourt, but it's harder to justify the civilians he let starve to death at Rouen.

Henry V was a complex man, but he was also cold, arrogant and exceptionally cruel. Yet, The King shows us none of this and gives us a fantasy version of characters and events, which for me is totally unforgivable.

Sucker Punch is one for me. I was super hyped for it based on Synders work on 300 and Watchmen. Turns out Synder was a two-trick pony and everything he's done afterward has been mediocre or garbage tier.

Three-trick. I will shit on Snyder all day but his take on Dawn of the Dead was great.

Wtf..I never heard of this, watched half of that trailer, that’s probably the worst minute of media I’ve seen in a long time. What happened to Kevin Smith.

Weed happened, no kidding. Common misconception that Smith's always been a stoner but it was working with Seth Rogen - big surprise - on Zack & Miri that switched him on to it. After that, Red State aside - he'd been working on it for years by then - he's made nothing but a string of irredeemable garbage.

Yeah, I was actually a lot more disappointed by Terminator 4 (Salvation) than T3.

Here we have finally a movie about the REAL future war, and it such a letdown. It didn't even look as cool as the 30 seconds of footage we had in the T2 intro.

This absolute fucking turd right here:

Batman V Superman GIF

The largest amount of wasted potential in movie history. The wrong man made it, because the wrong company owns it. Should have been a massive slam dunk, and they pissed it all away just so one dudebro could pretend he was smarter than he actually is. Ruined an entire franchise, and doomed us all to endless MCU shitfuckery, due to the lack of decent competition.

The extended version fixed it a teeny tiny bit and at least we got the batman warehouse scene out if it... 👀

The second Mortal Kombat movie. I saw that shit on the big screen, and I went in because I enjoyed the first movie, and didn't bother to read reviews or anything really about the sequel. What a mistake that was.

The extended cut brought it up from a 3 to a 5, so it did make it a bit better, but the fundamentals were still awful. And the warehouse scene would be great, were it not for the fact that Batfleck out and out murders several people in it (and not accidentally). Snyder also tries to copy the very famous M16 panels from The Dark Knight Returns, and cocks it up completely.

Like I say, wasted potential. Not only do we never get to have Batman and Superman on screen together for the first time done properly (which should have made billions) we'll also now never get proper adaptations of The Dark Knight Returns or The Death Of Superman, because the weightlifting, faux-intellectual idiot used them so poorly in this film.

Gah. Still makes me angry after six years :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Post this on Twitter and I'll be sure to attend your funeral.

Stars Wars the Phantom Menace. The hype was huge and I skipped high school to see it in theaters Day 1. Terrible movie.
Star Wars the force awakens. It makes the prequel trilogy seem like less terrible movies in retrospect.
The Predator. It was for the franchise like a recovering drug addict relapsing and overdosing to death with how shocking terrible it was.

You can look up who Tom Shippey is and what he had to say about the movies.

Also, Christopher Tolkien, his son did not approve of the movies.

Read letter 210 to see how JRR Tolkien would've dislikes the movies.

NO PAIN TRANCE CONTINUE
That bullshit movie with Seth Rogon where he picks up a friend and goes to a party with all those supposedly funny "hey I know that guy" movie. I knew before starting it bu we needed something on the background for our takeaway food. Still didn't last longer than 20 min tops.

Felt like the Sandler scam

Godzilla with Matthew Broderick was incredibly disappointing. That movie was HUGELY hyped. I must have watched that trailer on my real video player a dozen times.
