They’re not really free when you’re paying for Xbox Live in the first place.

HumbleBundle offer a monthly service for like $12. You get multiple games a month with that and they’re usually quite recent. As well as access to a small trove of DRM free games, and a 10% store discount.

On top of that, they also straight up give games away for free as long as you have an account with them, as do uPlay and EA.

I love the xbox is too expensive argument, its a super cheap 4k blue ray player, supports HDR, same price online as PS4, only u get more and better games, it has now 2! Game subscription services compared to none fo ps4, both good value.. the x plays 4k 60 games on a cheap budget.
