This is getting out of control. It has become literally impossible to enjoy all the content available for a singular product. For the Arkham games, waiting for the GOTY edition is about the only way to ensure you have everything because the initial release will spread all costumes and DLC across 20 different retailers and platforms.
i really have lost a lot of motivation to buy new games at launch, mainly thanks to the batmans, fallouts, and mass effects (which honestly at the time i didn't mind spending like $100 on DLC for mass effect, so i'm part of the problem)

Funny at first, but since some of the version are region specific it's not as ridiculous as people are making it out to be.
I disagree. It wouldn't be ridiculous if, say, North America's "Limited Edition" was the exact same as Europe's "Dedsec Edition". That's not the case, though. Europe, Asia and Australia gets two different limited editions, North America gets a completely different limited edition, while we all get the same standard editions and special editions. Then there's the digital only editions!

This is out of control. I can't see why they couldn't just have "Standard", "Vigilante", and "Limited" editions with all of the versions offering the same swag worldwide.

To answer the original title question though: I have just the plain old standard edition on order. If I like it enough, I'll consider the season pass.

I might get the game on PC but the exclusive shit never bothers me. It is never anything material to the experience as a whole. I'll just get the cheapest version like I always do.

As someone who has preordered Ubisoft games last gen and will never do it again, I can safely say the DLC items do not add to the experience at all.

The vanilla game is complete already because they have to account for not everyone buying a special edition. Everything else is cosmetic items and worthless gimmicks and trinkets that do not affect the game.

Probably already mentioned but there are multiple unique steelbooks for those looking for multiple cases for their various versions :)

If it ends up reviewing way better than I expect it to, I'll go standard. Otherwise, Black Friday Edition...unless it turns out to be a complete mess then not even then.

Uhhh, that was optional side missions. How does that "ruin" the game?
I like how you put quotes around a word I didn't use. :)

I was never eagerly anticipating the game because open-world is a low interest genre for me, just personal preference. I'm not a graphics whore so the visual downgrade wasn't important except for ethical concerns (and I love Dark Souls 2, so not a deal-breaker). The spider-mech just seemed so silly and out of place, it felt like a broader conceptual problem that undermined the game's tone. I realize the context is to criticize escapism thru technology, but it feels like its exploiting the issue that its supposedly decrying.

I will definitely read the reviews and be open to changing my mind, but right now it doesn't jive with my interests. I hope anyone who is hyped for it has a blast when it comes out!

With crap like this and the speed in which game prices fall, I see no reason to ever buy new.

Dat first post... is one I can agree with!

Am I reading this correctly, there will be NO digital release for Xb1? Digital column says NO except Deluxe Edition for PS and PC... No digital no buy for me, sorry Ubi.

This is a time wherein I have to be honest with myself and just admit that this "AAA" gaming thing is just not for me anymore. I've been sick of having this game shoved in my face everytime I glance at a magazine, a television or even a late night talk show. The OPs chart is the final nail

I kind of feel the same way, but for different reasons. For me, AAA gaming just seems so boring and safe these days. The sleazy nature of press release dlc season passes, multiple skus, and marketing saturation is just the brown icing on the shitty cake that is modern AAA games. :(

Agreed. If you take away the foreign regions and all of the physical stuff, it becomes the usual "standard edition + season pass = full game"

Still gonna wait to grab it cheap on PC though in a few years. My backlog has grown out of control that I really shouldn't be buying games at launch.

I'm buying the standard Steam version i.e. the best version--the version that runs the best and is most convenient sits with the rest of my Steam library w/o having to use some bullshit other program or pay for some service to play online.

I don't give a crap about a bunch of filler side content garbage anyway. I'd rather them cut that stuff out of the main game anyway so as not to waste my time. I'll take the heart of the good game and enjoy the 6-10 hours rather than have that watered down with a bunch of bullshit.

I'm not trying to take a dump on your plan and I really don't know the answer, does the Steam version require Uplay?

Edit: Enhanced Steam tells me yes. I can't stand that shit. Pissed me off with Far Cry 3 also. Just use Steamworks & Steam achievements please!

So there is no edition with everything? Looks like we'll have to think carefully as to which one to get.

It technically does but they patched Uplay several months ago so that it automatically boots straight through to the game from Steam. So while you have to have Uplay on your PC, you in practice never have to fool with it and can boot the game straight through Steam even with a controller. I did this with AC3 shortly after they updated Uplay with this ability (too bad it didn't make the game any better)

This is why I paid full price for it on Steam rather than buying it on the deal sites like GMG. It was worth the extra $10-$15 to me to be able to boot it straight from Big Picture Mode when playing on my TV with a controller and to have instant access to my Steam friends list, messages, etc..

Depends. If the game is received well, I'll wait until the Wii U version comes out, see how good or bad it is, then either buy it or the PS4 version.

And when I say the PS4 version, it'll be whichever is cheapest that I find.
