Which Games Production budget was bigger? MGSV or FFXV??

FFXV is certainly not as high as Destiny or GTA V but it should be above 100 million, which makes it more expensive than MGSV.

It is also feature complete unlike MGSV.

Full length CGI Movie, alongside a game that's been burning money for 10+ years. I think the answer is clear. This whole project must be one of the most expensive game project ever, if not the most, tbh.

Have you NOT seen this conference? Lol at MGSV.

Squeenix is literally going to go bankrupt if this game isn't a success. They'll have to find a third Japanese RPG publisher to merge with.

Unless someone in this thread is on the dev team and knows the budget, all we can do is pull figures from our asses. There's no way of knowing.

After this event, XV for sure.

I'm uncertain as to the exact lengths of Square's involvement in the financing of that Audi car, but that CG movie alone probably cost a fuck ton of money to produce.

Seems like XV production budget would be more massive.

In the span of the original Versus 13 announcement to the planned release of XV, Kojima/Konami had released MGS4, Peacewalker, and MGS5:Ground Zeroes/The Phantom Pain, with the later across 5 platforms all before XV releases too.

XV has been in development in some form for a decade, without a doubt it has cost more to develop. On top of that there is the CG movie, the anime, Florence in the Machine Theme Song, mobile game and this press event.

Ehh I think some of you are over estimating the CGI film. If the budget was really that high they wouldn't be handing it out for free.

It's going to be feature length, star big actors, and has the quality of Square Enix's finest CG FMVs, why wouldn't it?

I'm assuming they are going to monetize with ads.

MGSV was only 88 million over 5 years and it lead to 2 products - Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain. Konami made bank within a month of release but they lost their best developer and studio so in a way I'd say that was more "costly".

Being real though for a second - I've said many times that until Versus XIII became 15 it wasn't in full production. A small team doing largely story planning and engine demos isn't a game. That's all versus XIII was and plus, it was essentially cancelled after 6 years so that , whatever it was became a write off. It still might have cost 12 million though (conservative guess of 2 million a year from 2006-2012). FFXV proper on the other hand ... well 3.5 years of full development multiplied by a staff that I'm guessing had to be close to 300 people getting paid with benefits and insurance as much as 90K a year each = 94.5 million dollars. So , let's be a stickler here and add those 2 numbers together , that's 106.5 million dollars. Commissioning that 5 episode anime (12 minutes a pop it seems so 60 minutes total) had to be 1.5-2 million and the CG movie Kingsgraive ? I don't know how long it is but if it's feature length that means it must be 80 minutes or so , I'd wager it cost at least 40 million to produce. So where are we at now ? about 150 million total ? Well there's also the mobile game and the fancy Audi R8 plus everything to do with distribution and disc production , licensing fees , you name it. By the time September 30th rolls around , this will be at least a 200 million dollar investment. So for those keeping track that means Square needs to sell about 8 million copies world wide at full price to break even. .....
