Only the most rural parts of Africa are living in shacks. There are definitely some more developed places like Botswana.

That said, a lot of these third world countries will continue to remain poor when all they do is vote for socialism and tear down their own infrastructure. Sadly, this kind of behavior is being promoted in our own countries as opposed to chasing after space exploration.

He was a real person. So there was some good and some bad. I personally put him in the same camp as Che Guevara. Che had a noble intent (stop the exploitation of S. America) but was more than willing to get his hands dirty to see it gets done. Both can be celebrated for some aspects and condemned for others. The "Santa Claus-ification" (to quote Cornel West) of historical figures is an absolute disservice to future generations.

I have spent a considerable amount of time in South Africa, what is happening in that country is so sad. So much potential after the fall of apartheid, and they squandered it with increasingly bad leadership after Mandela.

That's always the case when it comes to any sort of leadership.

We are truly blessed that Washington just wanted to be a farmer. Any lesser man and the American experiment would have collapsed within a generation.
