Who here has the most radical gaming tastes?

Who here can claim to have the most different taste in games?

Certainly not me - I'm about as mainstream and typical as you get. Still curious if there are any here who only play/buy games that most others aren't into.

I like to play Tetris in a pool of pudding, wearing a leather jumpsuit, while an army of squirrels gnaws on my testicles.

You can't get more radical tasting than that.

I don't know about radical... but I think I'm the only GAF member that plays Magic the Gathering Online. Geek to the core baby!

Hey, I was all about that game when it first came out. Thousands of dollars later, I had to stop. I had to face it: I was never going to beat the webdecks out there, and I don't see the fun in creating the same deck everyone else has. Haven't played in a while, but if you're ever interested in a casual game or three, send me a PM!

I play Ma:tg online. Well, I joined during the beta testing (for free packs, you see), spent a small amount of money on drafts and leagues, but sucked so bad at it, I realised I was simply burning money on there.

I play Densha De Go! on my Wonderswan while some random Japanese title loads on my import Saturn. I use NFS 2 and Madden 05 as drink coasters, the cups I drink from have pictures of the Sega CD title where vampires raid a slumber party.

None of you even qualify. That role has been retired from the GAF in honour of opa, who hated MGS because he couldn't work out how to crawl under a pipe, and declared Evolution on DC the best RPG of all time.

I import an absurd amount of obscure quirky games that never make it to U.S. shores. Oh, and I have a tendency to be a little more forgiving than most about games in general. Is that radical?

My tastes tend to vary between the mainstream and the less-popular. If it counts, I just got finished playing some Treadmarks online. That game, at its peak, had maybe about 20-30 active players. Damn shame, too, as it's one of those unique and fun little games that just never caught on for some reason.

There are rumours that some people here actually enjoyed FFTA and Kingdom Hearts...Gotta be them...

I adored Kingdom Hearts. Grin from here to here the entire time.

It was a total nostalagia thing for me.

I own Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters AND that awesome SNES sidescroller where you could throw the foot soldiers into the screen, so me.

I also have the most bodacious gaming tastes.

And tubular.

I have TMNT tournament fighters too. I love the sound Donatello makes when he shoots that energy wave.

I also like KAR and PN03.

I like all the Final Fantasy games. Yep, all of them.

On these boards that seems to be a sin.

My vote would still go to Oli though. P.N.03 and KAR????

Man, I can't believe how everyone (well, almost everyone ;)) is trying to go for the gusto... It's funny though, I can relate to a lot of members when it comes to what to play. I played Magic, for about 5 years (in the flesh, or cardboard whatever you like :p) before trying my hand at the online game. I don't really think that is radical as of yet....

I do have to say that I play almost any game there is, despite of what score it gets. Some I like, some I don't... Take Metropolismania (cool name huh?) for example, I've been busy playing that for months when I bought that budgettitle.. It's a sort of Simcity, but you get to walk around town asking people what they would like to see or have nearby. It looks very very simple, is developed by Natsume and it's very very addicting....

That game is probably the most weirdest one in my collection though...

Other than that, I ain't that radical though... I just have a very quirky taste when it comes to my games... :)

Edit: Hey Olimario, gimme a hand man!!! PN03 rocks!!!

I think the guys who work at the local game store would say that I do.

I'll play Animal Crossing, Halo, Ninja Gaiden, and Pikmin 2 in the same day. Except for the majority of sports, racing, and stealth games, there's nothing I won't play.

I only play Linux ports of WARP games, but with the graphics completely removed and instead interfaced through a screen-to-Braille converter from IBM research.

I hope you realize that accounts for about 85% of the game market right there.

So thus, your statement, "there's nothing I won't play", which is preceded by your caveat "Except for the majority of sports, racing, and stealth games" is not without its own special little sense of irony.

Wordbiz (free Scrabble online with rankings) is rivaled only by Tetrinet.

Doom is one of the greatest single-player FPSes out there, even by today's standards. I also think Quake 3 is the best when it comes to multiplayer FPSes.

Katamari Damacy, Ico, and Rez are all great games, but they are most definitely style over substance. Which, amazingly, isn't a bad thing.

The greatest games on the PS2 are Bemani.

That's about as radical as I can get, by this forum's standards, off the top of my head.

I liked Half Life 2, Halo 2, MGS3 and Resident Evil 4. From the sounds of this forum that must make me a radical.

To some you are... To me, you're just an average gamer.... But wait... I like them too, so that must mean..... NOOOO... Kidding though, they are great games, except for Halo 2, which I believe is mediocre at best. *Hides*

judge for yourself. These are some of my favorite unpopular/obscure games:

keyboardmania
psyvariar
ataxx
king's field 4
go (ok not really a video game but it counts since there are vg implementations =])

im sure there are more wacky ones but thats all I can think of at the moment.

Well, there are good games, and there are bad games. For the most part, popular games are popular because they are good (yeah, the occasional licensed example aside) - but there are still lots of great games out there for one reason or another. I was curious into who consistently bucked the trend in gaming tastes - everyone has the odd obscurity they love to delve in.

Tain: I agree that Doom is still avery playable FPS - it just seems so pure, and based on imagination - kind of like graphics weren't amazing, but to keep you engaged it had to have really good level design that sparked your interest. It's like a pure form of FPS. I bought it on GBA, and it remains one of my most played games (despite it looking horrible on the DS and GB player). I also love DDR and co on PS2, even though they're thin on the ground PAL-side. I'm also a fan of Ico and Rez.
