Also imagine a console being designed so slipshod with so many corners cut it has the highest failure rate in history
I spoke to one of the engineers that actually worked on the 360 during it's development. He told me the issue was caused because MSFT rushed heat stress testing to get the console out as quick as possible to beat Sony to market.

If anyone remembers MSFT announced the 360 in August stating it would be on sale by the end of the year. A feat many people did not think would be possible.

PS3 is my favourite console of all time. I always thought because the PS3 had the exclusives and I could play a majority of forst party games there it wins by default. When I look back I realise that most of the games I played there (multiplats) looked and ran worse. I would have had a better time playing on 360.

I think the Wii wins the generation overall.
360 also averages above PS3 when I look back.
PS3 had the best exclusives and thats about it.

Wii was definitely the hottest system! It was sold out constantly in that era. Gamestop had them and they were gone an hour after opening. 360 had the best multiplayer( Halo, Gears of War) they win that award. Ps3 had the best single player games. Uncharted series, Heavenly Sword, Last of Us. Was the last great generation to me. All 3 were hitting. Especially compared to now. Honorable mention DS Lite.

I like all of them.

Xbox is fucking dead now
Playstation and nintendo are booming.

I won't ever play wii game anymore
Ps3 has plenty of ports to 4 and 5z

So i guess the alltime winner is ps3 because now we have forza gears and soon halo on playstation.

And nintendo is well nintendo but so far the switch 2 is rather shit compared to the amazing switch 1

Favorite: PS3

I ended up getting a PS3 about a week after launch and that was only because I knew people. I missed the preorder window that was like... maybe an hour. I worked in Seattle at the time. Every day after launch I went to about 3-4 stores daily. Before the job I had during the preorder window, I worked at an EB Games and knew a few of the managers. I remember going in to a store 6 days after launch and a 360 fanboy was telling me that every PS3 game would also be on 360 so I may as well buy a 360. Had I not known.... had I been a casual gamer, I would have taken his idiotic word as truth cause he's the one working at the game store. Luckily, I've been a gamer probably since before he was born. I laughed at him and came back the next day. I saw the same moron was there and immediately left. I was going up an escalator and a friend of mine was coming down the escalator. Came to find out he was now the manager of that store and he had a PS3 in the store he wasn't supposed to sell till Black Friday, but he would sell it too me if I wanted it. I came back down to the store and bought it with Resistance and an extra controller. The moron behind the counter tried to interject that they weren't supposed to sell it but he couldn't cut off the manager's decision. It was fantastic.

My favorite series, Uncharted, was born on the PS3. I also loved the Infamous games, RE5, Tomb Raider (2013), Mass Effect 2 and 3, and tons of others. It was an incredible generation.

Neutral: X360

I didn't bother owning one but I had a few friends that had it. It was ok but didn't really have the games I wanted to play outside of third party releases that I could also play on PS3.

Loathe: Wii

Don't get me wrong, many Nintendo specific games still had a tinge of fun in them, but I found out with this system that I ABSOLUTELY HATE motion controls. I almost instantly regretted getting rid of my Gamecube. Luckily, my Wii could play Gamecube games so that's basically what it became. Skyward Sword was the nail in the coffin for me and it ruined me on Nintendo as a whole until the Switch advertising came out stating "Play how you want" and showed the Pro controller. After the Wii-U heavily advertised continued use of the Wii-motes, the system was DOA for me.

The only game of note for me was, Xenoblade.
Ps3 for me as well but not my favorite system to play on thanks to those long ass installs. Also the 3rd party games would look and run worse on PS3. Sony went ham in 2009 and gained back a lot of folks Uncharted 2 imo started it. Sony now is in a sad state and it sucks.

PlayStation 5 is objectively Sony's best console to date.
The existence of the PS5 Pro shows how strong the platform has gotten.
🤣

It is a pointless platform compared to all their older platforms. I can be totally replaced by a pc - the same can certainly not be said for ps1, ps2 or even the somewhat shitty ps3

Ps5 has less than 10 truly exclusive titles - all others exist on pc and is way better there

Ps5 is a shitty pc - and by far sonys least interesting console

well given the Wii sold better than the other two and DS is one of the most successful consoles of all time, that they released a shit ton of first party games that probably sold well, i'd say Nintendo, i don't know if it was as profitable for them as the Switch though, i doubt it

i'd say Sony are the ones who lost because coming from the most successful console of all time they managed to lose a shit ton of money when they had to lower the price of the PS3, they conceeded a lot of market shares to Microsoft, and they didn't benefit from the revenue of subscriptions like Microsoft did

they did build a strong first party network during that time though, the work they did during the PS3 really paid off on PS4

edit : if you're just asking what's the favorite console, to me it's the 360 even though it's true only the first half of the generation had a lot of good first party games, but i think the first half of this generation was definitely more interesting, i started to lose interest in gaming and the industry in 2012

You are me. I was living in China all that gen and you could not buy 360 games there obviously. I'd pick up a few big hitters when I went back to the UK for Christmas but I'd miss the week to week visits to the game shop to see what had been released.
Probably why I've worked on building a huge 360 collection now because I could not at the time. I keep finding games I had no idea existed. It's a lot of fun.
Hell yeah brother, it sounds like we did have a similar journey there. How cool that you got to spend time in China though! I adore Chinese history, find it utterly fascinating, so there's a lot there I'd like to see, but considering the relations between The US and China have degradated, to put it mildly, I feel I may never get the chance, so if you have any great pictures I'd love to see them :D, no pressure though obviously, just wanna live vicariously through you lol.

I don't know if it's your type of game or not, but man I think The Darkness is such a gem from that period, and we never got a true sequel to it in terms of atmosphere and gameplay, as the sequel is fun but it's almost nothing alike in even the slightest capacity. I've beaten it three times now and I keep going back to it, something about it. There are countless others, but I was just playing that recently so it came to mind 😂. I'm very hopeful about NightDive Studios remaking it as they hinted to years ago, but I wonder if 2K games will even play ball :/. This is one that I'd love to see get one of those re/decomps that keep coming out, but I don't think anyone is working on that unfortunately.

It really was, I had that one and I have the sequel in my backlog even though I've heard it's not as good. The original games look and style was really a compliment to Bioshock and Prey in the early 360 days. All games published by 2K by no coincidence.

There's so many gems from that gen on PS3 and 360 that were overlooked or not given a fair assessment becuse of all the attention the big hitter franchises got at the time that makes it a great back catalogue to dive into if you set your expectations fairly.

In terms of numbers it was the Wii, but we all know what happened to that after a month of ownership.
I'd say
360 ruled the the beginning and the PS3 ended it
