Why are people comparing the Switch to the PS Vita??

I still don't understand.

Compareable size? Portable device? Touchscreen?

Things why I don't even consider comparing:

-Vita has no detachable joy cons
-Portable to Console mode is SEAMLESS AND INSTANT
-Splitscreen games
-NO Nintendo games lol ;)

They're both portable systems that aim to deliver gaming experiences you usually only see on stationary systems? Leaving the differences you named aside there are still quite a few similarities between the two.

Because Switch is going to take over the niche of both the 3DS and Vita, seeing as it is now the defacto handheld? Japanese games that you would have expected on either of those are now going to be expected on Switch.

According to your criteria, any console with unique features (for its time) can't be compared to any other console.

They are both handhelds and they both have traditional home console games.

Because, unless sony makes another portable system, the vita devs will have to go to switch once vita eventually dies if they want to keep making games for an active portable system.

It's the machine I play in bed, so, it basically serves the same purpose for me as my Vita.

What an oddly venomous OP...

They're analogous in many ways, portable indie machine that already has quirky Japanese titles being announced for it that would have likely been announced for the Vita only a few years back.

Analogous does not mean they're exactly the same.

How old are you OP?

the switch is like the spiritual successor to all the niche indie titles that vita got & still gets.

It's the new Vita in that every single topic about a new game where the Switch isn't mentioned as a release platform is filled with "I'll get this game if it comes to the Vita/Switch" and "Aww, too bad this isn't on the Vita/Switch" and "Omg this would be perfect on the Vita/Switch".

I make exactly the same use of both, so they are comparable, at least to me.

A console's meaningful first party support shouldn't end after less than a year.
Wasn't less than a year either. Do you people just make stuff up? They did stop producing games for it early though but they also made sure lots of 3rd party games came to it.

I wouldn't compare them 1:1, but design-wise they're both aimed at making a hi-end console experience portable. Its kind of silly to ignore the similarities, but at the end of the day they're each their own thing and similarities are just similarities.

Both are actual concurrent portables?

Because at the moment Switch is the only dedicated portable gaming device with a future.

It absolutely was. There were a handful of first party games that released beyond the first half of 2013, but that hardly counts as meaningful first party support.

Sony knocked it out of the park during the launch window and they did a reasonable job supporting the platform for the duration of its first year on the market. And that's it.

Because Nintendo finally made something that isn't garbage quality.

As a home console it's lacking sure, as a portable it's leagues above anything they have produced.

The screen while not OLED, is in a first for Nintendo, not rubbish™

The OS is modern, snappy, and not crammed with weird Nintendo crap and strange music.

I don't think it will be up to the vita's standards but its not bad.

Now can someone tell me why people started comparing the Wii U to the Dreamcast, cause that's a fucking headscratcher.
