That’s not reality and I showed you how, there is no recurring 1.00 charge per month for 3 years nor does it break down to that. You just don’t get it though.

I’m going to drop this and you can continue fighting with everyone about something you obviously hate and don’t use.
Come one now, you’re acting like 90% of xbox owners don’t have gold already. Why would you have gamepass and not gold when you’re losing out on big features for half or more of the available games? You’re gonna play gears and halo campaign and not play online or race against the ai in forza?

What sort of standard is this? If God of War is that great why didn't it sell 150 million copies? See how ridiculous that sounds?
Exactly this, people keep thinking that first-party games mean everything for every common consumer but those 150 units sold have not entirely played the most acclaimed PlayStation games same goes for Microsoft. The common consumer only buys these systems for the basics of games, like FIFA, NBA2K, GTA V, and the list goes on. So finally someone makes a damn point.

Who the hell is still hating on game pass? It's the best value service, and it's not needed to play online if you don't like it.

I really don't have an issue with any of the services..Either you subscribe to em or you don't. I've played some good stuff on pretty much all of them.
It shouldn't be an issue when it's not being forced on you yet......And I say yet because I suspect all of these companies will later down the line go by services but that won't an actual thing for 3 generations.

if you are going to stretch to make it appear like Sony is producing a wide variety of game genres
Yes thanks for adding more to the list (not sure BAT was Sony produced though ;)). The last 10 years or so includes some of PS3, PS4, and some PS5 titles. That is a lot :):
(Start from 2010 and move forward... might not be complete and a bit messy, but still gives a good picture)

The service in itself is a pretty good value, no problem with this. My actual problem is the company behind it. Microsoft showed (just like sony) that they were nice with their consumers until the moment they have the upper hand. And even if it's cool that you can have the choice to not buy an XBox and play the same games on PC, I still don't want it because I don't want a Microsoft monopoly over the gaming industry. It's already anoying to not have a real choice beside Windows as an OS for a gaming PCs so I don't want them to impose their standards over the gaming industry too.
Each time I see them buy a big publisher, I see people overjoyed because they're happy they will get the new games from that publisher for "free" on the gamepass. I can understand them but I'm personally not happy because Microsoft has already too much goddamn power in the gaming industry.

I don’t see the issue as long as they don’t affect game development, though I’m starting to see people saying “will wait till it’s added to GamePass” which indicates some purchase behaviors are being changed which I’m not sure the publishers are happy about.

This entire inaccurate post is worse than you know. Because I didn’t bring PS or ps now into this thread or conversation. Some people have little brother syndrome. The thread mentions good or bad. As I said in my original post, If it was so amazing it would be moving consoles. It is THE major draw for xbox right now, today. That’s the narrative. If it’s the reason to be in the Xbox infrastructure and the series s exists to be a minimum entry point to this service then people should be falling over themselves to get a series s. That was my point before little bro entered with PS talk.

edit:
Maybe read again. Because my points gave merit. Put ps now at $1 for ps plus subscribers and watch 25-50 million subs

Well I switched to xbox because of gamepass (have a series X) and I'm searching for a series s to buy to go in my bedroom. I can't find one in the UK, they are sold out everywhere.

We all know the PlayStation will have more sales (it's a great console) but stop trying to make out that both xboxs consoles are sales flops. They arnt.

PS Plus Collection + Free games is a far better value IMHO. It's a smaller selection of games but of a higher caliber overall. I also got PS+ for $29/year. I bought 4 years worth.

I'd take that over Game Pass any day of the week. I don't really like indie games.

This again is why people say fanboys are salty. You've clearly never even looked at gamepass, nevermind considered it.

Are you actually saying gamepass is mostly indies???!!

Star Wars fallen order
Fifa
Madden
FFXV
Forza Horison 4
Injustice 2
Dragon Quest IX
Destiny 2
Sea of Theives
Halo
Doom
Ori
Yakuza series
Two point hospital
The outer worlds
Resident evil
Middle Earth
The medium
Flight simulator

Just to name a few. Yeah... All indie games

This is a personal thing but SOMEHOW with games on gamepass I am less interested in them not because MS is using their money to get games on there but they just lose appeal to me if they are available like that. I tried to play mutiple games on Gamepass but I just can not play them for long or get invested. I do not know^^

Again, I never brought ps now into the conversation. It was brought up earlier and the first post of mine you quoted was in response to someone bringing up ps now 7 day trial. The reality is, it’s $1 a month for 3 years to access gamepass.

Genuine question..... Please can you tell all people with xbox consoles this method, as I'm sure we'd all appreciate learning how to get gamepass for $1 per month for 3 years.

No revisioning what you said.

Some people can't get their heads around the concept of renting games, even though we've been doing it for decades, and those people haven't realised that they don't technically own their digital games either.

Some people think it's "bad value" because they're the kinds of people who will revisit a game over and over again, but that's not what many others do.

GPU is just this. A super advanced games rental membership. Advanced because not many companies today have the capability to run the kind of service MS is providing.

If your kids play mostly Fortnite, CoD, or any game that is a time sinker (Minecraft, that thing where you look for the traitor on the spaceship)... It's worthless.

Also, renting is pretty expensive, if you spread the price over many years it actually cost more than buying games you choose to buy.

Obviously if you compare the price of one month spread across 200 games well it's an amazing price, but this is not how calculating the cost/ benefits of something works.

Also, the main competing service, that I am aware of, offers more games (better depending on your tastes)... if I had to take a service like this one it would be PSNow, at least the library has a decent size... and it has the Sony exclusives, even old Sony exclusives are better than "day-and-date" MS exclusives.

Well yeah, obviously if there aren't any games on it that you want to play, it's worthless. Same as you wouldn't pay for Netflix if it didn't have films that you wanted to watch.

But you can't make a statement like that and then say something like "renting is expensive", because you're well aware that it depends on why you're using the service. Game Pass isn't for Fortnite players just as it isn't for people who want to revisit a game whenever they like to replay it; games can be removed on a whim. Game Pass is more for people who play a game once and never again, and who want to play a wide range of games. Whenever I buy one, if it's physical, it goes straight on eBay afterwards, i.e. I've rented it, even if it costs a lot to rent that one particular game. To me I'd rather pay £10-15 to beat a game once and sell it than be £50 down on something that will be worth 1/4 of that in a few years when I might want to replay it. So Game Pass is incredible value because I just subscribe now and then when I have time to beat several games within the subscription period, some of which I can't even buy physically.

Good point. I suppose you can ask if games aren't being made to be replayed but I think it goes deeper than that - there's just so many good games and they take so damn long (comparatively compared to other media). It's hard to find the time to replay.

The industry has changed a lot over the years. I'd argue it's better than ever and services like Gamepass are a real boon - especially for digital-only games - but I'm sure many would not as they have a stronger relationship to the products.

Unless you are a Playstation users who are salty that XBox and PC users are able to play those AAA titles at a low cost while you pay $70 for just 1 game, I don't see any valid reason why you will think it is bad.

Tbh... I don't see a developer puting all that AAA budget to a game going to gamepass, so the result is a lot low tier games to fill the service instead of real quality games. (with exceptions of couse).

That's why sony instead of a gamepass rute they can get with getting their games even more expensive this gen.

That logic applies to that car battle arena launch game not meeting expectations being delayed to be a free wih PS+ next month...

If Sony first party studios games will have the budget reduced to develop gamepass games... I rather have not gamepass in PS at all and have 7+ AAA GOTY games each generation.

The other funny thing is I have an Xbox game I bought in 2003. I can put that game in my XSX and it works!
Which one? Because you sure were lucky because less than 10% of the og Xbox library is in the BC project (which is on pause).

It's a bit better for the 360, but not good enough that you can just pop a disc in and expect the game to load...
Game Pass is more for people who play a game once and never again, and who want to play a wide range of games.
The range of games on the service is way too small to be fit for this purpose.
Are you actually saying gamepass is mostly indies???!!
The list does not say otherwise, it has many AAA games... Old, very old sometimes, and new.

On the bright side they seem to be up to 500 games, which is an improvement.

The PS Plus Collection is far superior to that list pound by pound...and yes, the vast majority of GP games are indies, many of which are also available in platforms like PS Now, but people simply ignore it.

The PS Plus collection is extremely good, but those games weren't there day one. As a result of that, I paid for most of them seperately. There is one game I am playing religiously right now and thats Days Gone. Well, and I got into MHW, which I likely continue after DG. Its solid value, those games will set me back for weeks or more. And isn't this collection for PS5 owners only? idk, don't have my PS4 anymore.

Gamepass however, I wasn't there and because of that I love it. I love KI, Halo MCC, Gears 5, FH4, Ori 2. DQ I guess, because I beat the vanilla but didn't want to pay up for S. Yakuza collection will come, which is great as I never beat 4 and 5. If you were there, you would've gotten a lot of these games day one which saves a lot if you wanted them.

But GP does have a lot trash, but it doesn't outweight the benefits for me. Also, its only like 5 bucks a month in total if you sub with pre paid Live card. You pretty much get EA Play on top of it, which is superior to the EA Play sony has because of no BC (the Mirrors Edge 1 version on there is a bonafide remaster, recommended). I really think Sony should come up with plans involving integration of Now, as I don't think Now is bad per say, but I don't want to sub to it on top of Plus.

Absurd. What's missing exactly? I see platforming, racing, FPS, RTS, fighting, horror, RPG, etc. etc. You have a chip on your shoulder.
Sure, I play generic "platforming", "racing", "FPS", etc. whatever, you sound like a used cars salesman. I mean, the same can probably be said of the android and apple app stores, PSNow, etc. In the generic sense they offer something for everyone.

- Many games are on both PSNow and GamePass
- Most games become much cheaper after a little bit of time

The idea is, among the 10s of thousands of games that exist, what are the odds that the specific game I want is on this service (or another)? I mean, it offers like 2 bejewelled, and the most popular game on it is Among Us, which is worth about 5$.

I f this is what your kids play on the service you are better off buying them the damn games, none of the top 10 game is 70$.

And all it takes to get the PS Plus collection is the $400 - $500 purchase of a console most people can't buy right now. But I get what you're saying. PS Plus collection is an awesome perk for PS5 owners. I wonder how long Sony is going to offer it?

The majority of monthly "free" games with PS+ and Games with Gold royally suck in my opinion. It's so rare to get really good games any more.
Yeah they used to be really good, sometimes you can get amazing games from PS+. I have maybe 12 AAA and 8 AA games I played with it, so definitely been super worth for me. Considering it's $29/year which is less than ultimate for a month if I recall when I had it?

But yeah if they increase the sub price and push for PS Now and do something like PS+ NOW and start to include older games (Not for me so much, but others seem to like it) then the deal will seem more competitve.

For one, another service with a similar offering doesn't make the first a bad thing. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video co-exist with differing libraries. And yes, you can say exactly the same about those stores/services, and they're also successfully filling a market. Not sure what your point is there.

Obviously if there's a specific game you really want and it's not on Game Pass, you go buy it, you don't have a choice. You don't subscribe to Netflix if all you want to do is watch American Psycho, you just go buy/rent American Psycho. But if you also want to check out a ton of other movies while you're at it, why not get a month's subscription? Game Pass, or PS Now, it's the same thing, is about being able to try out a ton of different stuff for pretty cheap, and they're not even demos, they're the full games. I would never have played Dead By Daylight personally, but it was right there in front of me as part of my subscription, so I gave it a go and ended up having a great time over several evenings. There's absolutely no way I would have paid full price for Flight Sim, but it was right there and I spent a fun afternoon with it. Same with Forza, probably the same with No Man's Sky soon.

You don't have to exclusively use Game Pass, I'm still gonna be buying, say, Kena when it comes out soon, but I'm struggling to see the harm/bad value in paying a few quid every month to have access to an instant library of stuff I can jump into in-between games I specifically buy.

Oh, and when it does get a specific game I want? It's still better value for me than buying the game. It was significantly cheaper for me to get a month of Game Pass to play Ori 2 than it was to buy the game and it's my personal GOTY. Then because I still had GP for a month, I played some other stuff while I was there. I don't need to own Ori 2, I'm not going to replay it any time soon, and by the time I do, it's probably gonna be like £5. Or, it'll still be on Game Pass, and I'll still have my sub. So tell me again how I got a bad deal there..?

Gamepass is great, but there are certain kind of games I value higher than other kinds of games and sadly the way Gamepass is monetized for publishers/developers the essence and soul of a game could become secondary in a process to develop games with a priority on making money on Gamepass given the parameters by which games are rewarded.

Obviously right now Gamepass is great, because there are a lot of older (but not that old) AAA games on it that are not selling well anymore in addition to a great deal of indie games.

For me it is more about what could happen in the future. When you reward people for killing rats to keep the town clean by paying them for each rat tail they bring you eventually people will start to breed rats to cut off their tails and make more money from your service.

Gamepass already has become a value/budget option and an all you can eat buffet instead of going out and having a proper steak. There is nothing really wrong with Gamepass and I am kind of okay/indifferent about it because the pros and cons are kind of neutralizing each other, but I also don't expect Gamepass to be filled with new day1 10/10 AAAA Single Player Story games.

TL;DR The direction microsoft takes with their consoles and Gamepass are kind of the opposite of what I am really looking for in games. I am not looking to pass time with some games, but cherish the time I make for specific games. We will know more in a few years when we see exactly where Microsoft is going with it. Maybe I am completely wrong about it and there is nothing to worry about.

I don't think its bad, its just not enough to get me to buy an XBOX console.

I am a little worried about how subscription based services may cause even more DLC and microtransactions, but that isn't exclusive to Gamepass.

Everything isn't for everyone, but when your younger subscription service has surpassed the closest thing your competitor is offering by an over 7X userbase, it's hard to actually attack the market share of Gamepass... and so far I haven't heard of any massive userbase drop so they must be going the right direction with it.

Alternatively, why does a huge majority of PS 1P games sell less than 10% of its userbase if they are so good...

hint:
(everything isn't for everyone!)

So everything isnt for everyone except if your a Playstation gamer, then your just jelous.... what kinda logic is that?

"You will own nothing, and you will be happy."

I like to own the stuff i buy and i don't want to buy a license that allows me to rent a game for a limited time. Also gamepass keeps adding new stuff but also removes old stuff, so if you pay for the service, you would be forced to buy the game you liked anyway in the end because gamepass decided to remove the game you liked. The "netflix" trend of the game industry worries me.
it's because you misuse the service or don't really though how to use it because in practice it's more you spend less time and money on stuff you don't really like and care to own.
you don't like something : no regret you stop to play it and skip it (no buy so no need to resell it or money lost on it)
you like something , you support and buy it.

A game called Crimson Skies. You're right its not all original Xbox games but remember people are claiming that MS is trying to take away people's ability to own their games. Game pass is just rentals and you can't own your games. People made that claim in this very thread! There is only one platform right now that allows you to keep playing games you bought years ago for no additional charge. That to me is real ownership.

These threads are always the same. It's always the same concern counts saying ad infinitum how little they care (proven by how much they post in these threads) and how shit Game Pass is. If you don't like GP, no one forces you to use it. This is one of the best things for the XBox ecosystem (consoles and PC). I've tried so many games in genres I normally would never have touched.

The point of letting you use the old copy is that there's not much out there... MS has nothing else, so they try to play the 'nice guy' card, the BC option is about offering filler content for gamepass. While looking nice (which is better than nothing, at least you have that option).

I get it, you joined the cult and you want us to see the light.

Google it. It’s pretty well known. Or go back a few posts it was linked by someone. You’re not actually paying full price for it are you? Hurry up and do it before Microsoft closes the “loophole” that’s been open for 2 years. Gotta pad those numbers somehow

Haha! An amazing response! I joined a cult because I think MS has a good policy to let me continue to use the games I bought with my money! I wish there was a company out there that would force me to pay for some service to play games I already own or better yet pay again for a 'remaster' of a title I bought before. Sprinkle in some archaic refund 'policies' and of course I'd prefer to pay for cloud saves and I'd be in heaven! Do you have any recommendations for such a place that would show me the error of my ways and get me out of this cult? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Google it. It’s pretty well known. Or go back a few posts it was linked by someone. You’re not actually paying full price for it are you? Hurry up and do it before Microsoft closes the “loophole” that’s been open for 2 years. Gotta pad those numbers somehow

There are ways to get first few months for $1, or get the live gold conversion. The person claimed you can get it every month for $1 per month for 3 years. That's not true.

They arnt.
I didn’t say anything about series x. What I said was if the gamepass was such a draw the series s would be more sought after because it’s the cheapest way to access gp and current games.

Why even bother at this point. That boy is just trolling.
Preload 3 years of gold. Take the $1 trial. 3 years of gamepass for $1. You can average it out by dividing over 36 months but it’s 3 years for $1. (Jump to 15 million subs) Sshhhhh. Don’t tell Microsoft though. They’ve only known about it forever.

Buying 3 years of gold then converting to GPU for $1 does not equal GPU being $1.

It is impossible for anyone to get 36 months of GPU for $1 which is what you are trying to claim.

90% of x users have gold. You gonna pretend you’re not going to play online when you’re getting access to halo and gears through gamepass? Come on now. It’s 3 years for $1.

You keep on paying $15 a month. Enjoy access to gamepass. But the loophole that Microsoft knows about that pads their gamepass sub numbers gets you 3 years of gamepass for $1. And that’s a fact

ABout as much as fact as the Series S will be discontinued in 2 years and that 90 Percent of xbox live users are gold members. Which would put them at the same number of PS Plus users. But hey, keep trying.

Yeah it will. 2-3 years. We said that already.
the point here, if you go back and read, I didn’t bring up ps. Someone else did.

but don’t change the subject. Which is, if I get an Xbox right now I can prepay gold(required to play online?) and get 3 years of gamepass for $1
