Now make him furry and we got our favorite tie-wearing Ape in the game. Only the tie will be on his head now. :lol

Actually, DK looking like that would be full of win! :lol

Thanks for clarifying :)
I wouldn't mind much installing shady stuff, 'cause I'd obviously only use it in a legit way with the games I bought, if I wasn't afraid of a future firmware update bricking/messing with my console.
I'm probably being paranoid about this, it's a pretty far-fetched possibility after all (and pirates would obviously want to find a way to keep doing their stuff, so they'd work on a solution), but I probably won't be risking it, at least for now.

I want to belive this thread is some kind of viral experiment started by Nintendo to check if there is enough demand for a HD Wii.

They know we want it, but in all likelyhood what will happen is they'll release a Wii with more power. The games that run on it will be able to run in HD, but on the old Wii they will run in SD with lower settings/effects (similar to how PCs detect settings).

It likely won't re-render old games though. Will probably just upscale like the PS3 does.

i'm ripping wirelessly. it's slow, but it works. i haven't tried SSBB yet but when i go to rip it gives me a separate option for ripping dual layer games (like Brawl).

which program is it (if it's okay to speak of it)

Maybe it's just me, but it just seems that some color and detail are taken away when you upscale.
Perhaps, but blurring is a small price to pay for reducing the aliasing.
The jaggies in that first shot are eye-gougingly bad. And I'm sure they move all over the place, which is very distracting.

Those Paper Mario shots look amazing. Great captures.

How did it run for you?

Edit: Why are we talking about PS2 emulation/upscaling here? It deserves its own thread (and I believe there is one).

So can we just have one thread to help people with their emulators, and stick with it? I post a lot of questions in these separate boards, but I rarely get any answers.

It depends I suppose, since not all PS2 games even have progressive out (480p). My cam sucks, but...

Enabling 480p on PS2 games actually disables the PS3 upscaling (at least it did last I checked).

Yeah, that's the point :p which is why the tv says 720x480, my intention is/was to showcase the progressive out jaggies.

also if you don't know , devices like Neoya X2VGA , XCM 1080p Mega-cool VGA or Denon AVR 2808 can upscale PS2 , Wii , Dreamcast , Gamecube games to 720p or 1080 better than this shitty emu .

Gaf needs a go to post button next to quotes!

Edit: Why start your own emulator when you've worked on a good one, AND that's open sourced so people will hardly use yours? It's a good learning process, I guess.

God, why the fuck does Brawl look SO GOOD in HD?

Time to get a new PC.

Wii looked horrible on my HDTV with various cables before I sold it a few years ago.

I would jump on 720p Wii games in a heart beat. But, from what I understand, I don't have a souped up enough PC. Also I don't have enough money to start a Wii library.

Oh well... sometime in the future there will either be a WiiHD(I hope) or I'll have a better PC.

Edit: DAMN. The simple art style in HD is making me fall in love. I've been ignoring the Wii. These specs(XP;Amd Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2Ghz;1024 Ram;7600GT 256MB) wont run anything well right?

Honestly, I could care less and Wii is my primary system. Brawl looks just fine on a high-end TV and if I really want to see my games in true HD, I'll play my PS3.

this is the 2nd post in this thread and I just read the last few pages and all I can say is ... really?

The screens look incredible. And all that can be left is shame about the specs on the hardware that nintendo chose to go with.

-

did I miss where they talk about control inputs - did anyone get it working with waggle or is it just with 2D control/standard control?

The emulator supports a Wiimote and any of its accessories just fine.

You need a bluetooth adaptor for your PC of course.

You know, I'm sort of surprised some enterprising retailer hasn't bundled together the LG DVD drive, a bluetooth adaptor, a Wii-mote+nunchuck, and a disc with the required software, and sold it as a 'Wii-HD on your PC' bundle, all under $100. I'd appreciate the convenience of that rather than sourcing all this stuff seperately (well, OK, it's not a lot of stuff..but still..).

Sure, they'd probably piss of Nintendo, but given that it's legal, I think there's an opportunity there for more specialist electronic stores (e.g. Maplins) or indies who don't have any relationship with Nintendo.

Umm, so how do we use a Wii-Mote on the PC then??

Bluetooth adaptor..plus I think there's something to get the bar working too..

where's the sensor bar in all this? Sorry but I have no wii yet so I'm guessing the bluetooth reads the sensor bar?. Now I'm really interested in this whole thing now. So you also need a LG drive? I almost bought a wii with overkill and madworld last week. This is a lot more promising, cheap and exciting imo.

my pc will be able to run this fine.

Wait, what?

That screen is from before release. As far as I can figure some developer decided to throw in some flavor text, lifted it from an article at Wikipedia for who knows what reason, and it got far enough to sneak into a press screenshot. It's edited slightly to remote a statement in parenthesis, and multiplayer became "multipla", but the image I'm linking to is from Watch Impress, not just some random blog.

At 480p, if that text was still in the game, it would probably be unreadable, or very close to it. The emulator would make it a lot more obvious. That's if it wasn't caught before it went gold, of course.

Sensor Bar doesn't sense anything mate - its just a source of IR light. You can use two candles for the same results.

Yep it's still there. That same line stays static throughout each song you play. Weird.. must be some Japanese thing as it happens in anime once in a while too. They grab random English text from readmes and slap it into scrolling backgrounds in futuristic shows and stuff.

You need a certain model of LG drive..can't quite remember the number but it's somewhere in the thread..

As for the sensor bar it's supposedly pretty straight forward to make your own. Or apparently the Nyko wireless sensor bar works if you don't want the hassle of making your own. The magic happens in the wii-mote, the bar is just to help it get its bearings, so it doesn't need to be connected to the PC or anything.

Now I'm very interested in this. My GC backlog is quite substantial, my machine can run the emulator and even if its just for the GC shit uprezed, this is worth it. Will comb the thread and maybe collate the info in a post. The OP should have been updated for this to save me the trouble. :p

back in a bit.

if any of the collated info is bannable... edit it, don't ban me! :p

So should I post some HD Oboro Muramasa later today? (Game arrived Monday, but they dropped it at my parent's house instead of my apartment.....wtf?!)

you wont see that much of a difference, it's 2d art, upscales should look the same unless you have some sort of filter that makes it look better which there's probably no filter option

So can anyone explain this? You can't upscale 2D art and gain detail like you can with 3D so a decent TV upscaler should be able to do the same as the emulator in this case.

it would look arguably the same via 480p upscaled to your hdtv resolution, of course that would depend on how good your tv's scalar is

the only difference would be the emulator could AA the jags and if you took a look at the 480p videos floating around, there's no aliasing in this game

Maybe it's just me, but it just seems that some color and detail are taken away when you upscale.
If Colour is different perhaps the PS3 is displaying it in a different color space or your TV's settings needs to be recalibrated for that resolution.

You'd gain (or more accurately, preserve) detail for 2D objects zoomed out below their original sizes. Not sure if this applies to Oboro.

Playing as much as I can today, start the new job Thursday (training) ugh hate wearing suits.

Loving the game so far. Been playing both on my Wii and PC. PC framerate drops by half when you're in villages (but stays steady.), but it's butter smooth everywhere else.

I do like playing it with my PS2 controller as opposed to the classic on Wii though. You guys see if you can tell the difference, all of them except the last one are played with Native scale off, but cropped. The last one is native scaled up to 1680x1050

(Damn awesome fight, you have to fight like 7 waves of these guys. They break your swords so easily too =( )

yeah it looks better, the text looks like ass as suspected (the a)
the image quality looks sharper and as suspected, AA helps
