Wii emulator can do 720p HD

Few more shots, decided to play it on PC a bit (About done with Momohime's campaign on Wii. Started Kisuke's. Haven't started his on PC yet though.) I REALLY love this game, dear god the game and it's art are just so beautiful.
(Sorry about the first shot, it's native res upscaled.)

I not sure what the hell you did to those pngs, but they even bigger than they would be as bmps and 4 times the size of as the one I resaved as a png.
Then why did you quote them?

I thought my connection was dying or he was just using a really slow host. :lol :lol :lol Also those are some...odd pictures of that girl character. o_o;

Dear god! They were only 400-900kb PNG preupload to Tinypic, now they're 5.4MB o_O if I would have attempted to upload 5MB, I'd be sitting here for a while just trying to get 1.

I'll sorry about that.

High Res 1366x768 (4:3)

However, Star Fox Assault is the best looking one in high res. In my opinion.

It runs both Cube & Wii.

Do Wii games have AA? If not, then you are making Standard res look better than it actually is!

gotcha. I just saw "wii 720p" and just jumped on the screens. Again, didn't really read anything else.
But there is one thing to take out of this thread, there is no reason why Nintendo can't release a new revision of the Wii which outputs games at 720p and have it be perfectly compatible with the normal Wii.

I think PS2's backwards compatibility allowed bilinear filtering and faster CD reads, but no higher res. 360's backwards compatibility adds AA, but no higher res again. PS3's backwards compatibility (when it existed) allowed upscaling which did make certain games look as if they were in a higher res (such as MGS3) but still not a true higher res option.

Thing is, its very cheap to up-res a game in emulation since most of the power required by an emulator comes from the CPU.

Wii games by itself might have AA, but you can set it in the emulator.

I know that, was just saying that his Metroid comparison between 480p vs. HD res should have made Wii look even worse because Wii isn't supposed to have AA.

I think it should be feasible for the Wii hardware to render polys to a 1280x720 buffer even if the game thinks its still rendering to 640x480 or 852x840. That would mean edges would be sharper although it would do nothing for textures. It might also result in some visual glitches if two polys look flush in a lower res but don't line up exactly in higher res. Nintendo might have to special case some games.

PS3 BC has upscaling for PS2 games but its the cheap ass solution. Its upscaling the 640x480 buffer rather than rendering to a higher resolution. It would be awesome if it did render natively but I don't see it happening while emulation uses the EE+GS or GS hardware which lives in some models. A fully software BC could do what it likes of course and it would be awesome if it did render to high res buffers. Again it would probably require lots of special casing so I expect if software BC does appear it will be very selective, and probably rolled out when Sony starts selling PS2 titles on PSN.

and wii isn't supposed to be used with a computer monitor.

Can't get AA to work, the galaxy hack in the latest build makes everything visable once gameplay starts, but it's really blurry for me:

yeah it looks better, the text looks like ass as suspected (the a)
the image quality looks sharper and as suspected, AA helps
that's bilinear (bicubic at best) filtering for all the 2d art - your tv scaler should be able to do equally well.

I think it might just not be up to the task of Galaxy yet, since I managed to get Smash running and it looks like this:

And a tinypic resized from 1080p, runs at 50fps with a few drops at that res.
Wow, what are you running?

Build, PC components, res?

Hmm, what settings did you use to run Muramasa? The screen just stays black for me.

Couldn't get it to run on the latest '3089' so I'm using build '2962', 64bit on Win7. PC is just an E8200, 4Gb RAM and a 4870, stock clocks thanks to a recent BIOS "upgrade". Windowed at 1280x720 and fullscreen 1920x1080. I can post detailed emu settings if you need them too.

According to the website Baten Kaitos 1 and 2 work perfectly, does that mean I can play the game from beginning to end without any problem?

You'd gain (or more accurately, preserve) detail for 2D objects zoomed out below their original sizes. Not sure if this applies to Oboro.

I just wanted to add to this: it's often entirely possible that a game uses higher level 2D assets like textures than the console will output. When rerendered in HD this will come out. A great example would be FFXII, that game has some awesome texturework you'd never notice fully on the PS2.

Also true of Ghostbusters PS3.

That's Rare, for you. Their art direction has never been spectacular but they're one of the most technically competent developers out there. They've been getting better about art direction, though (Viva Pinata, etc.)

But yeah. BG&E may not be quite as technically impressive but it kicks the shit out of Starfox Adventures in every department.

Some of these shots look pretty damn good.

How good a machine do you have to have to get AA, high-res, etc. with a decent and steady framerate? (30+ is decent.)

I know for damn sure my laptop won't hold a candle to the real thing, but I'm curious how my desktop would handle it. I don't have access to it (or my Wii) right now though.

Is there no way to get the sound working in Wind Waker? The game looks incredible at max settings, but it's weird playing a silent Zelda game.

And the game is capped at 30 FPS right?

(Sorry! Timed out and re-submitted accidentally.)

Might as well use the post for something useful: how is Brawl with a keyboard/mouse? Are there any gamepads that replicate gamecube controllers, or will I need to buy a gamecube to USB converter? Or is this kind of thing (as I suspect) more for fapping over upscaled graphics then having functional emulation on your PC.

yeah. you could run it at higher frame rates in earlier versions (haven't tested lately) but it ran too fast when you did that.

i have some ghostbusters shots i can put up later on... and i'll rip the conduit once i get it in tonight to see if it works. probably won't be able to try it until tomorrow though.
