And it's actually one of its "better" markets, at least where it has yet to be outsold by the PS4 (but will happen eventually). Yes, it bombed hard, but the home console market isn't great there either, so it's a combination of the two. Even the mighty Wii only sold 12 million in Japan out of 101 million total.

You know it's sad but true. Given that the Wii U is at ~11 million, seeing 3 million in Japan isn't too hot. For PS4 it doesn't matter as much, but Wii U had to do better in Japan this gen given how Europe in particular didn't bite.

I love my Wii U.

Just goes to show how great Splatoon is.
If Nintendo don't port it over to the NX as a launch title then that's a missed opportunity.

Yeah, it's been cool to see Splatoon move some consoles and hardware up YOY despite the NX on the horizon, even if the numbers are just okay at best.

I guess on another bright side, it's selling more than about 100 units per week, i.e.. the Xbox One.

And Japan is a mostly portable/Mobile market now. So it should in no way be expected to compare. Look at the PS4 which has a 36m WW install base but only 2.2 in JP. Look what the GC did 4m. The DC 2.6m the Genesis 3.6m.


IMHO I think 3m now and a possible 4m lifetime is all in all pretty solid. Not going to break any records but NOT a bomb. Honestly 2 years ago most would have doubted it woudl cross the 3m line... and it has and still has some steam left.

Not Denial. But if you look at the facts it is doing al right. Not a leader for sure and I would agree not doing as well as NINTENDO expected pre launch. But I would not call it a bomb. Just look at the YOY sales growth.

Really? I don't think the Nintendo executives are thinking that the WiiU is such a huge success selling 3 million units on their home turf, especially when its predecessor sold more than 4x that number.
