My wife called me to say that we received a "gift" on the Wii U last night of Lost Reavers. At first I thought it was from one of my brothers and was actually excited, not for the game, but that you could finally gift games to your friends.

But it was nothing more than an icon that appeared on the home screen that linked to the eShop.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Not with Lost Reavers but it happened on 3DS with one of the F2P Pokemon games.

Maybe this is the alert blinking on my gamepad that I ignored this morning.

I've had several different things offered to me on 3ds - f2p games, yokai watch demos, etc

When I started my Wii U up before there was a "Lost Reavers NOTICE" icon. That took you right to the eshop.

I bought Lost Reavers (yeah yeah, it was a fun time waster me and my friends tried out whatever) so it was super weird. I thought for sure they were gonna tell em the game was shutting down.

It asks you if you want it it on (unless I'm confusing this with the GamePad ad-message).

I received the download too. It is just a link to the e-shop where you can download the (free) game. I tried it (briefly) when it was first released before deleting it. I don't know why they are pushing it now - maybe it has had an update ??

To receive or stop receiving automatic downloads follow instructions below:
From the Wii U Menu, select "System Settings."
Using the Left Stick, select the "Internet" icon and press the A Button.
Scroll down and select "Automatic Software Downloads."
Select "Yes" to enable automatic downloads or "No" to disable automatic downloads. Settings.

I got this when I tried to boot Splatoon through the quick start menu just now. Kind of shitty that it actually replaces the icon for booting the game disc in your console, even if it took five seconds to tap the icon, decline the redirect, and return to the full menu.
