The trash cans outside your house.
Exactly. Case closed.
Kameo on 360 looks very close to the ORIGINAL Xbox game. And compare an Xbox game to a late 360 game, and you see the enormous power of the Wii U (I'm serious btw)

No!

It does not look close at all!
Anyone that says otherwise is a fool.

The 360 version is objectively doing a hell of a lot more, get over it.

Kameo, much like Pikmin 3, was likely built primarily for the then previous generation of hardware and souped up for the new generation. This was also coupled with a pretty significant leap in processing power and hardware architecture (eg: multi-core CPUs) of which was never going to be taken advantage of until later down the track. Thus I don't consider either of these titles representative of what hardware is capable of.

I do not doubt for a second that Wii U games three - four years from now will look noticeably better than the launch offers. To argue otherwise would be stupid. But I do think comparing Kameo with the 360 launch to what the Wii U is offering isn't as apples/apples comparison as it might seem. Pikmin 3 is probably the best example, and its last generation origins are pretty obvious.

Once again, hoping to hell that StarfoxXMetroid happens to see your reactions. I will feed on it like the Weeping Angels feed on time energy.

We actually don't have any proof that Pikmin 3 development started on Wii. Game design and prototype maybe but thats it.

Correct, but the original Pikmin 3 (even in prototype and design stage) was confirmed for the Wii, and then confirmed to shift to the Wii U. The simplistic GamePad usage, easy Wii Remote integration, and fairly basic graphics when the game was revealed at E3 2012 say to me the game was originally marked for the Wii.

It's been quite a long time since we've seen a new build though, and I'm expecting they've spruced it up a little bit.

I hope so. They didn't really show much at the NYC Press Event, kinda "glossed" over the game in that reel footage

Yes, can't wait to see the final build. It looked already quite good to me. But less flat textures and more small grass/stones would be nice. Just something more organic basically.

Miyamoto saying in 2008 that they're "making Pikmin!" and then in 2011 saying that development was moved to Wii U is a pretty clear sign that development started on Wii.

No, I don't mind using my Wii av cable. I just did not think that would work. I guess I won't know until closer to the release. Hopefully this information will be expained by Nintendo on how to hookup multiple configurations.

Thanks for the info.

The supported cables are all listed as part of the official Wii U specs.

So this NSMB2 stuff got me thinking, is DLC appropriate for series like Zelda or Metroid? How could they implement it? Would you even want DLC for these games?

Miyamoto said this at E3 2012:

Pikmin 3 itself I’ve been working on with a very, very small team for going on about five years now doing a variety of experiments, but as far as Pikmin 3 on Wii U, we started that a little bit less than two years ago.

Hats.

Hundreds and hundreds of different colored hats.

$.99 each

And for just $5, you can play as Link in his pajamas! How silly!

Edit: Speaking of alternate clothing, is anyone else as impressed/in love with the Nintendo themed costumes in TTT2 as I am?

Only for specific modes separate from the adventure. I don't want extra quests added in.

If they were to put in Metroid Blast as a multiplayer mode and offered more maps as DLC, that'd be okay.

So my main concern is, will they just try to integrate it into the current story in the game or kind of have a branch off of the story? I don't know why, but for some reason it is so hard for me to imagine Nintendo franchises with expansions. They just don't seem to be tailored for them. Maybe its all in my head. Or maybe...

i'd be interested in seeing some puzzle heavy abstract dungeons for Zelda as DLC, that didn't have to fit into a world design. something gamier. think Mirrors Edge DLC.

Sure, if they implement them properly. Super Mario Bros. is easy, because the game is divided into levels to begin with. When it comes to Zelda, or Metriod, I would want the content to feel like it was naturally part of the world. I guess playing a song on your instrument in Zelda that would teleport you to your DLC temple, or being able to fly to a new planet in Metroid would be okay.

I'm sure there will be an improvement over the lifetime of the console, but it's worth keeping in mind that the paradigm shift from PS2/GC/XBox to PS360 was much greater for developers than the one from PS360 to Wii U. That said, there are certainly aspects of the Wii U architecture that will lake a bit of getting used to, like the big ol' chunk of eDRAM, GPGPU functionality and whatever other crazy stuff Nintendo's got going on in there. Perhaps more importantly, the only people at all likely to push the hardware are Nintendo themselves, and none of the games they've shown us are the kind they're likely to push the hardware with.

There's about nine months between the E3 build and the final game, so I'd say it should look a fair bit better. It really just looked like it needed a bit of polish, given the disparity between the very nice looking parts and the not so nice looking parts.

Do we know if the HDMI out will have HDCP? I guess it won't because the Wii U does not play Blu-ray discs.

Will old Wii games work in terms of online on the system? I know offline stuff is fully backwards compatible, but I was wondering about online titles.

F1 Race Stars preview, sounds interesting: http://www.*****************/scienc...--F1-Race-Stars-Xbox-360--PS3--PC--Wii-U.html
(...still not confirmed for Wii U afaik, but a lot of signs pointing to it like Black Ops 2 before)

Edit-ha they're blacked out, Daily Mail if anyone is interested.

But it does do Netflix and other stuff that would likely use the protection.

Was talking to a guy this morning at Gamestop about the waiting list and he said that it is not looking good for this year, and if they do get another stock in, then it will probably be after Xmas. Take that for what it is worth. Nothing to do but wait, I guess.

Side missions that do not affect the original storyline.

While out "Metroiding", Samus recieves a distress call from a nearby planet. When she goes to investigate, there is some threat that must be stopped. DLC could be very episodic in nature.

I can tell you from what I saw, there's heavy indication that it started on the Wii. They wouldn't even let us play it with the gamepad during the Wii U experience.

I don't recall this explicitly coming up, but I can't imagine why it would be a problem. PS2 on PS3, Xbox on X360, DS on 3DS haven't been problems.

That doesn't really make sense; it's not like after getting the launch amount done all their production/shipping will cease for 5 weeks.

No reason they wouldn't. As long as Nintendo keeps the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection infrastructure online which the games connect to, stuff will work.

I don't really see how DLC could be implemented in Metroid unless it was something like new suits, or maybe a new armcannon (if the game were First Person). The only way you could add actual new gameplay content would be if it were Metroid Prime 3 styled and you were capable of flying to other planets.

I asked Gary Whitta about WiiU plans for The Walking Dead full 5 ep game on WiiU, it comes out Dec 4th on PS3 and 360. He is writing season 4 and has been answering some questions in the WD thread.

"Originally Posted by jmizzal:

"Gary Whitta"
Good question, I don't know what plans there for Nintendo support. Must find out!"

Well he doesnt know but, Telltale has put a lot of stuff on Wii, Nintendo are getting a lot of support for e-Shop, so I could see them putting them on the e-shop some time latter.

Looking at the wording of the Wii U packaging for backwards-compatibility says "almost all". Why wouldn't it just be all?

What Wii games do you think would not be compatible?

I expect multiplats to start looking better on Wii U once 720/PS4 come due to GPGPU and feature set being used by devs.

I vaguely recall people mentioning that some games used the GC ports for peripherals, like DDR maybe? Can't think of any other reasons for stuff to break (from what we know at least).
