WiiU's looks have grown on me so much. When it was announced I thought it was ugly and boring, but this black WiiU is easily one of the best looking systems I've seen.

I'm a bit confused- that Eurogamer article said absolutely nothing new and frankly said nothing that would go against the consensus in this thread for months. Why are certain posters trumpeting the article as some new, profound breakthrough that "proves" their point?
They want to feel like they reached new ground that the "spin campaigns" (re: the WUSTs) haven't. It's pretty funny though that everything Eurogamer stated, I guessed nearly exactly from the jump (HD4770/4850 with Nintendoisms/2012 elements, 1.5-2GBs some form of (G)DDR3 RAM with 32MB eDRAM, 2-3GHz tri core SMT fo' lyfe lol) just following crumbs and chatting with reasonables here and there. I don't have sources or the deepest understanding of tech and the demand for it, I just read around and thought a lot about what could be done with specs from the initial 01.Net leak. The only "surprise" was the 1GB for developers line as it sounded more like that was all in the system with no addendum a la IdeaMan's. I got too used to the notion of the system possessing 2GBs post the latter WUSTs.

What's gonna happen with all my Wii VC games? Nintendo still needs to tell us.

 at the thought of playing super Mario RPG on the wii u controller B^)

smh I don't think I'd buy them all over again if we can't transfer
No they don't because they already did so months ago. EVERYTHING will transfer over. We've known that since E3.

Has a 20 minute walkthrough of Retro's new game leaked yet???
yes, but it got mopped up promptly by the janitor.

~ Stopped reading here.
See, that's the thing with paraphrased out-of-context quotes ...

what they actually wrote is:

GPU: The Wii U's graphics processing unit is a custom AMD 7 series GPU. Clock speed and pipelines were not disclosed, but we do know it supports DirectX 10 and shader 4 type features.
So there's no need to fault them for "bwahaha dey dont no DirectX is pwn'd by M$ l0lz" here :)

So there are two reasons why the system can't have only 1GB of total ram:
The article's anonymous source claims it is "1GB RAM for games" -- not "1GB total"! that's an important distinction. That could still mean the previously rumored 512MB or whatever it was that are supposedly reserved for OS stuff can still be in there for a total of 1.5GB. But it seems that was ultimately what you were trying to say :)

The two things I was looking for.
bg's not on board.

:p

What the hell is wrong with you?!
Quickly, call security, we need to restrain him so we can send him to "therapy" ...

So if there's someone with decent technical knowledge and the least bit of common sense, we'll be getting a big chunk of specs in no more than 48 hours?

This "new info" is the same that was leaked some time ago, where it is the surprise?

I told a long time ago that the memory amount will be 1-1.5 gb in applications (depending on nintendo's choice) so ... I mean there is no new info in eurogamer's article. This is why devkits have 3 gb (doble memory in the "better" case I said long time ago).

Exactly. Anyone surprised by the news hasn't chilled in here too long. :p

So is anyone seriously still believing that the WiiU will be supported beyond the PS4/720 release.
Given the landfill of sugar-coated PR garbage with the underlying sentiment that the Wii U is not seen as a viable platform - be it for technological reasons or otherwise - by devs/pubs, I don't even expect it to be properly supported pre-PS4/720.

That's fine with me, though, since I'll be getting a PS4 and/or 720 either way. But the Wii U damn well better get a lot of the quirky/unique experiences that we got with the Wii, at least...

Also, I just realized, but... you're boris, aren't you? What happened to your username? :p

Memory info is good, but I'more interested in the CPU, GPU info. Can you confirm anything on that.

WiiU version will not be as a cheap port as other big publisher games, but still don't expect any serious tech push. The controller will be implemented well, hopefully, given they have the time, resolution will be probably 1080p as well as better textures a bit (but they can make it only so high, they didn't design it for WiiU from the beginning) there would be more AA as well as other effects. But this stuff is all easy to do.

Wow, I stirred some shit. When I said photorealistic, I meant aiming for a more ocarina of time or majoras Mask look, a stylized realism. Basically anything but waters painting (SS) or cel-shading (WW).

A mod appearantly changed it after I made an observation about how the backlash over the rape scene in Tomb Raider was completely overblown. I guess stating ones oppinion can get your name changed on here.

I don't even know who did it.

Anyway, I share the sentiment. At best we're going to get some me too efforts and I really don't see 3rd parties to support the WiiU with their big titles beyond 2013

We pretty much have an idea, don't we? At least the same type of idea-without-confirmation that we had about the memory pool before this Eurogamer article/Emily Rogers comment.

Tri-Core OoOe PowerPC, clocked under 3.2GHz with 32MB of eDRAM, AMD solution similar to the R700 series (DX10 equivalent) with an output of between 500-600 FLOPS. I get that we are lacking in some detail work, but that pretty much gives us a picture, doesn't it?

Nothing Eurogamer said contradicts or inform, just provides further confirmation to what some awesome posters here have been saying for a while.

Yeah, but all that info is still vague. That covers alot of CPUs and GPUs. We've heard a tri-core enhanced broadway or tri-core power7 based. Why use broadway, not designed for multicore use, not designed to clock much above 1ghz, not designed to go passed 90nm. After you redesign it to include all that and then add things from power7 so they can say its all new and related to wastson, is it still braodway? So we really have next to nothing on the CPU GPU.

So it's essentially out-dated info?

If Nintendo manages to establish themselves before the others launch 3rd parties may not have a choice. What if they manage to sell 10 million units before 720/PS4 launch ? That said with rising development costs and initially small install base of 720/PS4 they might not be able to ignore current gen as well, which is probably a reason they're all so keen on pointing out that their new engines are scalable.

That said it seems possible that at least Japanese developers might flock to Wii U, given current sales/install base of PS3 and Nintendo's head start. Also who knows, maybe some publishers will try to rise to the occasion and bet on Wii U instead of trying to manage their own demise.
I think Japan's developers who develop big budget HD games will be happy to have a second HD console to support in Japan, as the PS3 was the only one with a good install base, the 360 had practically no presence in Japan. I can see big Japanese developers like Capcom, Square Enix and Platinum Games porting games to the PS4 and Wii U and not really porting to 720 unless they want some western exposure.
