Wireless gaming connection question

I've just got 64 bit WEP on my router right now. Maybe i'm crazy but I can't help but think that most people who are looking for a free internet connection are not gonna go through the trouble of hacking a WEP, even if it is easy to do with some knowledge.

I would bet most freeloader wannabe would just look for an easy wide open router somewhere. AMIRITE?

I agree with you, but the others are right when they say it isn't exactly secure.

Me and Tigerriot are gonna hang out with our unsecured wireless wangs out.

WIRES FTW!

I just use mac address filtering.

If they find and clone my mac address, I'd know about it once they tried talking to the network.

All my sensitive infoemation (credit cards, etc) is encrypted anyway.

I'm fully aware that it isn't perfectly "secure". But just as someone said earlier in this thread, it's like locking your door but not putting a dead bolt on it. If someone really wants to get into your house, they're gonna do it. The simple lock is a deterrant for 99.5% of the bad guys though.

Besides, i've always wondered about this. Let's say someone searches for signals and picks up my router, and it says it has a 'WEP" on it. How on earth do they know if it's 128bit, 64 bit, or whatever? When I search for connections with my PSP or DS, it just says i've got a "WEP", and it says the same thing for my neigbors connections that I pickup.
