BOULDER, Colo. -- Former "Family Ties" actor Brian Bonsall has been charged with second-degree assault after police say he repeatedly hit a friend in the head with a broken wooden stool.

Bonsall could face between two and six years in prison if convicted of the charge that prosecutors filed Friday.

Bonsall, 28, was arrested Saturday and appeared briefly in a Boulder courtroom Wednesday morning. Police said he was involved in a fight at an apartment in the 1100 block of 11th Street in Boulder on Saturday. The victim told police that Bonsall hit him with a part of a broken wooden stool.

Bonsall allegedly told officers he had been drinking that night and didn't remember what had happened but identified the man who called police as his "best friend." Police had been called to the residence three times before they arrested Bonsall.

Police say Bonsall was also wanted on a warrant for missing a court hearing in 2007 on suspicion of violating bond conditions on another case. In that case, he had been sentenced to two years of probation for his girlfriend's assault. Bonsall played the role of the youngest Keaton sibling, Andy, on the NBC sitcom starring Michael J. Fox.

He lived in Boulder for several years and graduated from Boulder High in 2000. He had several run-ins with authorities after that, including a 2004 arrest for drunken driving and an arrest in 2007 for assaulting his girlfriend.

Why is it that in Star Trek, the aliens always look exactly like humans, except they have something on their nose or forehead or a combination of both?

Humanoid species... budget reasons, before CGI came cheap, making really really freaky multi limbed creatures not practical in long run for them.

Stop making fun of his tattoo. Geordi convinced him that butterflies in the sky were super cool, and he's the main engineer. Is it any wonder then that the poor impressionable kid got one blazoned on his neck?

you do realize aliens are not part of the actors guild, right? And that its a TV show with a limited budget? And how do you know aliens wont look like us with ridges in their noses! Huh smart guy!

.
It's actually explained in a next generation episode. Basically there was this ancient bipedal 2 eyed etc etc race of forerunner aliens that seeded dozens of worlds in the galaxy with their DNA, resulting in common shared features among the resulting intelligent life.

Well in Star Trek it was due to the fact that a large portion of species are all descended from one single alien race that seeded the galaxy with their dna. But in reality it was because even klingon make up took hours every day to apply, so you can imagine how long it would take and how expensive it would be to do something more complicated. Once CGI became a little cheaper you started seeing more variations, Enterprise for instance with it's Xindi storyline.

Annnnnnnnnd, im done being a massive dork.

edit: gawdamn it, beaten like a red headed steppenis

We may have common genetic roots, but our people will always hate each other - kardassian/bajoran style

:D :D :D

He already looks like a joke. He'll prolly be dead in 40 odd years.

If he didn't fight back his death would have been dishonorable. Then he would not be able to enter StoVoKor. Duh.

God I hope you are kidding, but somehow I know you aren't.

Edit: Wait, doesn't this mean that humans are superior or something? They are the only race WITHOUT extra appendages on their noses/foreheads.

That isn't Brian Bonsall. Alexander was played by several actors. The picture there is Jon Steuer who played him in the first episode he was seen in.

This is Brian Bonsall's Alexander who played Alexander throughout the remaining Next Generation series.

Then finally, he was played by Marc Worden durring the characters appearances on DS9.

this guy has no visible hair loss, appears to be of normal weight, skin isn't splotchy or discolored, no scabs or scars. Not saying he isn't a drunk or a druggie, he more than likely is a drunk at least... but he doesn't look like he's "ravaged" his appearance with it...yet.

Star Wars was a movie with a huge budget and months and months of shooting and huge ass crews. You missed the part about practical in the long term. The freakier looking species in Star Wars were in shots for a second or two. Look at fucking Jabba, stationary puppet rig operated by machines. Live-action tv show that runs for many seasons, is not practical. Star Trek Voyager and DS9 did manage to make freakier looking aliens but were CG or CG enhanced,

If I'm remember the episode right, they didn't look like humans. They were just bipedal, two eyes, two arms etc.

Klingons didn't originally have ridges on their heads. They just looked Chinese or something.

Yes I know they "explained" it.

They looked kind of like the Changelings from DS9, which was an odd coincidence since the same actress played the alien in that episode, and the Female Changeling on DS9.

Ooh, don't even start the klingon "different look" explanation of tortured logic and mad retconning :D

While Worf's explanation on DS9 was better, I actually thought the explanation on Enterprise was surprisingly well thought out and rational. It even played off one of the really good story arcs from Enterprise's last season with the genetically engineered people.

The Star Trek notion of trying to "explain" everything that's contradictory just adds even more bullshit to the mix.

I agree, it was one of the few well done aspects of that show.

Had a bigger budget, shorter running time, and stuck the weirdest looking aliens in 5-second roles?

How does not having the extra cool stuff make humans superior, rather than plain?

I somehow don't think a 68 year old is going to give a shit. :P That's why tattoos are fine. You're already going to look like shit when you're old, so why not?

... Of course, HIS tattoo is fucking stupid and embarrassing.
