Would you be able to play a game where you rape someone

Edmund was an interesting game, even though it was kinda terrible

I wonder what would happen if someone took that idea further.

would it draw the line for you? would you find it interesting?

I get why a big company would never even suggest it, considering that violence and murder, although for some equally demeaning and terrible, sells and is considered entertainment.

I think there'd be some kind of potential on a game that gets you inside the head of a truly fucked up person and explores some of the more explicit acts that never get touched upon because of common decency.

I dont think there's a line that shouldnt be crossed as long as the game embraces something like this properly and is not just a throaway thing for "shock"

that said, I think a lot of people here would immediatly quit the game or couldnt stomach it, and that's interesting

Such a thing shouldn't be censored (nothing should) but I sure as hell wouldn't buy it and I would probably think less of anyone that did.

Would probably play a "serious" attempt at it out of morbid curiosity. You already have Illusion and flash games for the fetish side.

It's just a game, why not? I'm pressing buttons, not forcing myself on someone

There is no proper way to embrace rape... I have many choice words on this topic that I will not express...but insinuating that simulated rape in anyway is a line that can be crossed is just wrong

Rape is deplorable in my eyes but then so is killing without reason and some games allow you to do that.

I'd have to see what the whole game was like before even considering it. If all you did was rape, I'd write it off as boring/inhuman.

Honestly, I think what really matters is:

  1. is the context provided for the criminal act a means to a narrative end
  2. does the point strive for some deeper or progressive meaning rather than fetish pandering
  3. is it a good game

same reason why watching a movie or documentary about a person who commited a terrible act like that could be interesting?

I'm okay with an incident of rape occurring in a story (as long as it's not just "there"), but to play it or see it? I don't know. I mean yeah, I could handle it, but that's getting into some really dark territory that I don't really want to venture into.

Eh, after all the murder, I suppose. I wouldn't enjoy it, certainly, but I could play a game that ... utilizes ...

If it made story sense, and it would have to make really viable story sense (like a flashback that you can't avoid; the character trying to make up for his past deeds) then ... maybe ...

You know, probably not. I think I've found my limit.

The only appropriate context I can think of, is if you're playing as this evil person throughout the game that just merciless kills people and rapes them (with a story to accompany it,) but at the end he dies.

It's a cool idea. You play as the villain essentially.

why would you want to run over hookers in GTA?

same but different, considering im not talking about making the act "fun", but rather just have it as an integral part of the character you play as.

Would be too disturbing. Do we really need it even more than the games are doing nowadays? Like that guy burning alive in Call of Duty, it was way too terrible for me.

No, that would be crossing way too many lines for me. I already have a problem playing military shooters or playing as cops, cause I hate everything those institutions stand for.

How about a hell no...

I recall this one game that has a premise like that but it was by all means lambasted and buried six feet under.

Plus, that would piss off a plentiful lot of people.

So hell no.

No. It would either be done poorly, in which case it's about the gross out factor and marketing which is disgusting, or it would be done well and Jesus Christ does that sound horrifying.

So watching a movie or tv show with rape is fine but playing a game where there is a rape is not fine?

Gonna need more context. Like, can you be some hero on a quest to save the world and for most of the game, you're this awesome dude that rescues puppies from sinking buses, and then out of nowhere you just rape someone? I'd play that if the gameplay was good.

There's already enough doujin games that feature it and I can't stand them. My personal tastes, but I can only consume entertainment where the sex is consensual. Same goes for film/books. Rape just bugs me so much it overpowers whatever else the story may have had going for it.

I get this, but nah not for me this is interactive entertainment - and I wouldn't want to interact like that. I guess it would depend upon how it was portrayed though. If The lead character was a murdering rapist I could live with it, but actually a part of the game where you rape someone? Hell no.

another point i'd raise is that considering how much killing and murdering the "hero" of every game does, it's kinda hard to get the feeling of you playing as a complete cold hearted, fucked up person, considering murder is about as shocking as games go in terms of themes

something like this would be a way to get this feeling across, if the game tries to go for that

I predict this thread will either die really fast, or become a member graveyard.
