Would you mind graphics options on consoles if it let you play at higher fps?

subversus

I've done nothing with my life except eat and fap
so I heard that Alan Wake: American Nightmare (also Bioshock) let you turn on/off vsync.

the question: would you mind to be able to tweak some advanced graphics options like texture quality or visual effects on consoles if it let you play at 60 fps in result?

like everything is maxed out = 30 fps with dips, everything on low = 60 fps.

Yes, I would mind very much. It's not my job to tweak a console game. There's not a million different setup like on PC.

For single player sure why not.
Competitive multiplayer no, i like knowing i have 28~30 fps so has my enemies and doesn't have a hardware edge on me.

I'd rather not have to think about it, I'd keep changing my mind every time I saw something imperfect like I do with PC games.

Technically N64 games with hi-res modes started this. Usually you would get a slightly smoother framerate if you ran in standard res.

absolutely not.

I want the developers to carefully choose the best setting and tailor it to perfection to the hardware.

Infact i want as little options as possible.

If those options are kept to a minimum, why not. In Dead or Alive Dimensions 3DS if you turn off the 3d the game runs at 60fps (bad example, I know)

In Two World for Xbox 360 you were basically forced to hook up a keyboard, open the console, and lower the graphics settings via commands just to get it at something resembling a playable FPS. Worst console game I've ever played.

If I have to deal with crap like that in a game, the developers will have to pay *me* money to play it.

I wouldn't mind them if that's what some people want, but I wouldn't fool with them.

I'm totally cool with a framerate that is less than 60 as long as it's somewhat stable (and isn't always hovering at about 12 of course).

I would like to add extra effects and/or AA to my consoles games and get LESS fps in return.

Less jaggies >>>>>>>>> 24+ fps

Yes. There should be as many options as possible.

It pisses me off when I go into the "display" settings of a game to only find a brightness page. Worse is when there's no in-game slider, but rather the game expects the player to adjust settings on their TV and wreck every other game played on that TV.

Defeats the purpose of consoles in the first place.

Day 1 dlc and patching was also something what didn't belong on a console.
So is installing most games on ps3/360 now because bluray is not fast enough for some developers likewise for the 360.

But if you have people that know what they do let them tinker its their software(oke the physical disk is) and hardware. And because we are probably going to use post processing AA filter with future games why not let me choose which one i want to use.

They did something like this with Perfect Dark, but that 'HD' mode is pretty much unplayable these days. One issue I can think of is optimization, the benefit of targeting a standard and perfecting that balance of performance and graphics could be hampered when you have different tiers of optimization. There's also the fact that on some platforms disc space and file size is tight, and having different assets for one object or effect could be an unnecessary waste of space.

Same here, whatever or SP, some games get bogged down a bit so turning off some extra effects would be pretty handy.

I quite likes the option in Bioshock myself, while it could get choppy it otherwise would hit some silky smooth points that just felt nicer to play.
It really makes me hope that next gen developers don't try to over do graphics and just make everything run smooth to begin with.

But as for MP, I don't want to be at a disadvantage because someone else has played with certain options to take advantage of a situation.

It might generally be popular and unpopular at the same time, but I know when I play CoD that everyone is running at 60fps, I've never hit a slow down, screen tearing etc., so the only thing that really affects playing is either reaction time or getting screwed over by terrible ping times.

Yes, I really dislike those «adjust the brightness level» as well. I want to start the game fast and easy on my consoles, not go through a bunch of settings.

So you would have a problem with it if it was hidden away in a menu somewhere?

And a native screenshot function so you can document how many months it takes you to finish the first level.

I wouldn't mind, since they're not going to optimize it regardless, it gives me the option to play it at a higher framerate with some effects I don't like disabled.

I thought it's not even possible to hook up a keyboard to xbox 360? Wasn't this not allowed by MS?

You win :D

Having the option is never bad. Like in SF4 on 3DS, you can disable 3D in the options to get permanent 60fps in offline play. If you don't tick this option, turning off the 3D with the slider still has everything at 30fps, but with anti-aliasing. I chose 60fps. So having options for any game can't be a bad thing.

Certain multiplatform games on PS3/360 has V-sync turned on or off depending which version you get. Why not add that in the options menu. Some games from Volition did.

With next gen systems having multiple GPUs and like 16 core CPUs and all that jazz, we're guaranteed 1080 P res at 60 FPS with ultra high end AA as standard.

:P

I think it would be the smartest thing to do, giving options to people.
Then again, looking at other replies in this thread, people seem to hate the awesomeness that comes with freedom, so... Let's just say I'm glad I can set these things on PC.

Slippery slope, no thanks. Allow people to turn off filters and hud elements sure, but tweaking graphics settings...no. It takes away from the plug and play nature of consoles.

How? It would still be plug and play, but tweakable if you want.

Hell no! Especially in games with really many drops and action games like castlevania, it would decrease input lag also which for many can be gamebreaking.
