Would you rather Retro Studios make Metroid WiiU, DKC WiiU, or [something else] WiiU?

Its a simple question really, Retro Studios are clearly working on something and we don't know what it is. Its most likely for the Wii U, unless they've taken an unexpected dive into 3DS development.

Let us speculate that they are working on a Wii U game, to be released at launch or soon after. What would you prefer it was?

Metroid Wii U

Donkey Kong Country Wii U

Another Nintendo IP, such as Eternal Darkness, Pikmin, Zelda, F-Zero or something else for Wii U

A brand new, Retro Studios-created IP for Wii U

That's the thread. Of the possibilities and in the context of the eventual Wii U launch, what do you want them to be working on?

You say that like it's a bad thing. Miyamoto being all over them is what made the Metroid Prime games good.

I didn't mean it as a bad thing. I'm saying they wouldn't have that big of an influence as people here seem to think.

Based on their output so far, it doesn't seem to matter what you give them. I'd love to see Metroid back to glory, and I'd love some more DKCR. I'd especially love to see some new ip.

I'm more expecting something else though. Retro so far seems to have been forced into doing series revivals, and the time for a revival of F-Zero seems in order, right now. It's a well regarded series, that just skipped a gen. Reminds me of Metroid in gen 6. Given their technical and artistic prowess so far, I'm sure it would be stunning. Also worth mentioning, they just designed a few of the tracks for MK7. Maybe that was just the practice round.

StarTropics WiiU as an interstellar Uncharted giving them free reign to develop each area to be traversed and range between grounded in "reality" and abstract as fuck. The studio could also use this as a canvas to add a decidedly western style but familiarly Nintendo game to its library. Tone should never go above a funny Saturday morning cartoon, but with subtle hints of older humor here and there.

New IP is second best. Everything else is below these two options. :p

Star Tropics for the Wii U.

This came to my mind almost immediately, but I think the likelihood of seeing a StarTropics return is just so remote and unrealistic that I don't even want to try thinking about it any more.

Something in that sort of vein though, an action/adventure/exploration sort of deal would be really nice as one of the Wii U's first "big" games. I could see them taking the Donkey Kong license in that direction, or perhaps a new IP. If they decided to take that and apply StarTropics or Nazo no Murasamejou though, I certainly wouldn't object.

The answer will almost undoubtedly be "something else" on here.

Personally I'd like to see what they really want to do.

Metroid, provided that Retro wouldn't make it another Prime game. DKCR proved that they possess plenty in the way of making a solid 2D style game, so I would love to see what they could do with a Metroid in that way.

They've been quoted as saying they're next project is "something everyone wants us to do", so I'm guessing Star Fox, Metroid, or Zelda.

I trust them with anything really, so I'm OK with whatever they decide to do. I doubt someone other than them can do Metroid right though, so I'm always fine with more of that.

Would love to see Sakurai/Nintendo collaborate with WayForward on a 2D Metroid for the 3DS.

I'm sure WayForward would LOVE to work on it...

...and I would love to see it happen!

Make an HD Metroid that goes back to the beautiful simplicity that was Metroid Prime and it would be the shit.

Golden Sun Wii U. Would love to see an actual prominent JRPG made by a western studio.

Would never happen of course for many reasons even when forgetting it's a handheld series.

And now the name seems so obviously fitting. How did I not notice this before?

I'd say Metroid, but 2D. 'cause DKCR proves they can do 2D.

Actually yeah, it would be nice to have a brand new Star Fox game, since Rare handled the last console one, let Retro do it since they've essentially become Rare to us

The beauty of this Wii to WiiU transition, is that the Wii games were so good, that they could literally re-release the same game library in HD and I'd be more than happy.

I'd just trade in my Wii versions for the WiiU ones.

I'd prefer Metroid Prime 4. DKCR left me a little dissapointed lots of stuff in that game annoyed me.

I wouldn't mind seeing somthing new from them too.

Zelda.

But I don't see that happening, so new IP.

If it's like prime 1, then hell yes. Sadly, I think it would be like prime 2 and 3, which is the exact opposite of what Zelda would need I think. They completely lost the feel of metroid outside of the gameplay, and Zelda wouldn't need that treatment. They could certain design everything else, just leave the story elements to another group.

Retro is too good for something on rails. I love Starfox, but Retro has the ability to create beautiful 3D worlds to explore.

I was even a bit disappointed their last efforts had to be in 2D, even though DKCR was great.

Whoever said 'FPS that can compete with the western FPS standard' hit the nail on the head.
