I swear, for keeping up with the WWE, seems like WWE's youtube and writeups on r/SquaredCircle seems like a much more efficient use of my time.
It's a lot easier than watching the shows. And it's going to get worse if they do end up adding a 3rd hour to Smackdown.

The Raw ratings were up a little, but they are still pretty bad.
  • 8 p.m. 2.47 million viewers
  • 9 p.m. 2.24 million viewers
  • 10 p.m. 2.02 million viewers

I get that it’s maybe something that connects with people but AEW being positioned as some spiritual successor to WCW isn’t something I’m too excited about. The industry needs to move on from the Attitude Era.

I wouldn't worry too much about that, they won't be like WCW. Just a bit of the old NWA spirit.

It shouldn't be too hard to topple WWE at the moment. I hope they don't sideline good storylines though and also selling properly needs to be priority in their matches.

Not every match should have a 450 flip and a dive to the outside.

One of my biggest issues with wrestling at the moment is the matches tend to look very similar. Back in the 90s wrestlers would have about 7 or 8 moves that would be unique to them and only them and you had wrestlers with their own style like Rob Van Damme and Mick Foley.

Triple H is reportedly “the most frustrated person” in WWE

The stories we’ve heard about people being frustrated with Vince McMahon have been confirmed by many people in the company and it’s no secret that wrestlers are looking at their options when their contracts expire.

In the last week, Triple H seemed to acknowledge to the fans that he knows change is needed but there’s not much he can do until Vince McMahon decides to step aside. Triple H recently liked and then unliked these two fan tweets:

Some of the usual stories (and some new ones) were confirmed on Wade Keller’s Pro Wrestling Post-Show when a close friend of three WWE writers called into his show after Monday Night Raw. It’s very clear that the buck stops with Vince McMahon and it doesn’t look like real change is coming anytime soon.

Here are things said on the podcast by the close friend of three current WWE writers:

– WWE’s problems are not the fault of the writers. “No one should rip on WWE creative. They have some of the most brilliant, unbelievable cool ideas that I’ve ever heard…” He was told, “We’re writing for an audience of one and never forget that [and if not] you’re out of here.”

– “The most frustrated person in the back every single night is Triple H. He’ll always take, especially the NXT guys, under his wing. It looks like he’s consoling them. It looks so much like he was the most frustrated person in the building every single night.”

– The Wild Card Rule was not in the script on the morning of the show.

– The Superstar Shake-Up changed week to week and it didn’t pan out how it was originally laid out months prior. Everything changed because Vince just decided to change it.

– He talked about the turnover with so many backstage people quitting or being fired.

– SmackDown and Raw writing teams are the same for both shows. They used to be separate but that changed recently after the Shake-Up.

– The caller emphasized that the problems in WWE are not creative’s fault and Vince McMahon is the one person who deserves the blame.

– Vince wants suggestions from everyone but it never gets on TV. 99 out of 100 times you can come up with an idea for Vince and it won’t be used.

– The entire creative team has pitched to have Raw and SmackDown look completely different with different production, a different way of shooting things, etc. and McMahon shoots it down.

– Vince McMahon doesn’t keep track of what is going on with NXT. He “maybe” watches Takeover shows.

– The writers say he just watches WWE and works out and is not aware of things going on in the real world.

– The writers say there is no chance of Vince stepping down.

– Dana Brooke has been the hardest worker for the last 3 years. She goes to the Performance Center, she shows up early and helps set up the ring and she gets in the ring so she can get better. Creative will pitch something for her and she gets nothing up until recently with MITB.

– The caller offered to tell Wade Keller off the air of some cool storylines that were pitched and never used.

– The writer he talked to said, “we’re all working for Dana Warrior and it’s really awkward.”

– The WWE-Fox contract prohibits Fox from moving the show to FS1 even if the ratings drop.

– One writer is very close to quitting because he is so “unbelievably unhappy” and many of the writers are paranoid and think they are close to being fired.

– “It’s such a toxic atmosphere and it’s all because of one person.”

– When Neville walked out, there was a crazy shouting match and he flipped out on Vince McMahon and that was the last time they saw him. The writers praised Neville for being so easy to work with.

– Ideas never pan out as originally planned because writers will come up with stuff and then Vince loses interest after a week or two. He used Mojo Rawley as an example.

– The money is good and it’s a dream job for many writers but it gets frustrating. The talent is very unhappy and people are trying to get out of their contracts.

– The writers say Bruce Prichard is a pleasure to work with. “He’s a funny guy and a pleasure to work with but he’s not getting through to Vince either.”

– Shane McMahon, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have tried to talk to Vince but it hasn’t worked.

– The people on the writing staff listens to podcasts and they hear fans bashing them. “It breaks their heart,” he said.

– Vince is in the announcer’s ear “to a sentence” and he gets on them for tiny mistakes.

– On Sami Zayn: “That’s not Sami Zayn’s promos. That’s Vince McMahon talking through Sami Zayn.”

– There are 37 total writers and they are now working on both shows.

– NBCUniversal and FOX both want the top stars.

– Andrade went into Vince’s office and asked for a legit push. Vince looked at him and said, “learn some English and get back to me.” Andrade spoke some English last week and he’s been taking English lessons.

– The Firefly Fun House stuff is all Bray Wyatt’s idea. Bray is described is an “absolute genius” and he helps other wrestlers with their promos. “He’s one of the best guys in the locker room.”

– The writers he talked to say they loved when there was a real brand split.

– He mentioned The Revival/Usos storyline being done because Vince just thinks its funny.

– Some of the writers think Road Dogg will eventually end up in AEW. (Note: Road Dogg is currently on hiatus and there’s no word on when he will be back or what he would be doing if he returns).

For many years I have given Vince the benefit of the doubt because he created everything. But these days I fast forward 90% of the shows, and bother watching maybe 1/2 of the PPV's I get as part of network. It's sad that he has two kids who know so much about the business, and Triple H who knows everything there probably is to know in and out of the ring, and he won't let the newer blood start taking over TV. I'm not about to start paying for a start ups PPV's, but really looking forward to their future TV programming and who knows what happens if I get hooked.

You are right that WWE in its current state should not be hard to topple. Terrible...like TERRIBLE storylines are killing them, along with just bad matches and 50/50 booking has killed off 95% of the rosters success. They need the approach that worked in the 90s where there were always multiple guys that could be "the guy" and end this 1 superman character.

On the AEW, and uniqueness you aren't wrong either. Just hope you're ready for 19 superkicks every match followed by 25 false finishes. Hearing a few of JRs recent interviews, I hope he can help COdy and Co. realize you need faces/heels and uniqueness for every character, along with selling....cause my god indy wrestling is AWFUL at no selling. I hate no selling with a passion, and I can accept a small amount of it at say a WM, but it's everywhere now. Heels need to approach it the way Bryan does, and Jericho used to when he cared. You aren't there to "Get in" your stuff, you are there to tell a story.

RIP Ashley.

Regarding Vince, it's really gotta be such a shitty feeling to have so many ideas, so many people excited about said ideas, getting good approval through the chain of command......and then having it be nixed at the final stop. Even as a corporate worker that shit's frustrating--if you're in creative, it's gotta be even more stifling.

Also, if Sami's promos are basically him being a sockpuppet for Vince and what he thinks, maybe Vince hasn't lost his touch completely.

Possibly, but it also shows he needs somebody to help flesh out these things cause as much fun as Sami has been, it didn’t really build to anything of matter for Sami other the. Getting thrown into a dumpster, and getting thrown into MITB with no chance to win.

That I think we'd all agree with.

I can see AEW getting anywhere between 500K to 2 Million viewers. If they keep them coming back week after week will be the next test.

LOL at the crowd reaction to the 24/7 title.

One of the ugliest looking belts ever.
I don't know what goes on in those board rooms where these things get conceptualized and then approved.

First off all, more titles are the least of anyone's concerns right now, other than a small contingent of Attitude Era arm chair bookers, nobody was asking for a reboot of the hardcore title let alone a 24/7 title.

Secondly, that's really the best and most appealing design out of all the blue prints submitted? Really? Do they seriously predict people will pay over £100 for a replica of this?

Thirdly, They really need to decide and settle on an actually identity for this company. I'm seriously getting those awkward and just plain bad late WCW vibes from this company in regards to direction and what they want their product to be.

On the one hand they want to have serious wrestling contests, Storylines and a credible wrestling product, then the next their introducing a wacky 24/7 belt for the purpose of comedy skits, a relaxed brand extension once again and now they're back to this fetish of worked shoots and deliberate referee botches and having the commentary play up to it to "work the internet fans" like we seriously give a shit.

I heard they kept Brock Lesnar's return at MITB a secret even from the talent in the match, why? It's just highschool pranks "haha, we fooled our talent" bullshit and it's just sad. You're talent are "WORKERS" They're in on the bloody work. This just accentuates the culture of "Us vs Them" - Management with their bonuses, benefits and perks vs the talent, performing monkey's who are drilled for fear to oblige and obey or their employment will be a misery.

Don't even get me started on the Ashley rape cover-up either Just like the Jimmy Snuka cover-up, there'll be many more skeletons coming out the closest but how many more before some kind of justice is served?

It does feel very WCW 2000 of late. None of the main eventers are that over, all the guys they bring up from NXT get lost in the shuffle almost straight away, most of the feuds are boring and stale, shitty comedy skits.
