Xbox as a console brand seems to be really dying lately can Scarlett change that or will it be a short lived project?

Honestly, I have no reason to buy any xbox's going forward. I will have my pc and can get all the games I want from them on that platform. To me, xbox is dead and serves no purpose anymore.
Except when you want to play Xbox on PC. A platform is a platform.

Not sure exactly what you mean. Halo 2/3 were the only games I played extensively on xbox, and since 343 killed that franchise I don't see any reason to stick with it.

Phil Spencer was just a PR head and a total screw-up which given his games output (or lack thereof) I would argue was worse than Don Mattrick.

Since Matt Booty took the reigns Xbox has acquired seven studios. We should give the Booty a chance to turn things around.

MS doesn't care about Xbox. They don't need the brand to exist. They only keep it around because it sells reasonably well. The entire thing was created out of fear that Sony was going to take over the livingroom with their own OS. Both companies failed to predict the future accurately and google and apple mobile OS's won the day instead. Xbox should always exist to keep Sony on their toes but honestly it will always just be second place and MS could care less about that.

pc gaming was far more niche during the psone era.
PC gaming was huge in the 90's I think you find. Back in those days the likes of id wouldn't even lower themself's to develop on the consoles.
The '90s were the time when a dedicated PC game could top the charts and where even so many retail shops had huge dedicated PC sections. It was the days when consoles owners had to make do with PC to console ports, rather than the console leading development like today.

And in those days so-called PS exclusives like G Police, Tomb Raider 2,3 Final Fantasy 7,8, Colin McRae, GTA Ect all were also out on the PC and looked and run better too thanks to 3DFX.
Funny how the PS fanboys weren't so keen to point that out then, but make a big deal of Xbox games out on the PC and looking better today.:messenger_winking::messenger_tears_of_joy:

I've read some fanboy nonsense in my time, but that takes the biscuit.
Why?
For arguments sake, emulations should be taken out of the discussion.

Same as mods, if you ask me.

Being a fanboy has nothing to do with it.

It wasnt as accessible as today, but still popular.
Also hardware got obsolete pretty quickly, unlike today, where you can still play very well with hardware from 6 years ago.
You would have never been able to do that in the 90s.
I know it, because I was there.
Completely dofferent landscape.
And lets not ignore the fact that pc's library just trumps xbox library any day, while in the 90s s lot of console games just didnt come out on pc, period.

PC gaming was huge in the 90's and PC heads have never needed PC gaming to 'accessible' for them to enjoy it. I lived through it too, I even bought Metal Gear Soild for both the PS and then the PC. Unlike some of the fanboys never had issues when SEGA put a load of Saturn and DC games on the PC or when some of the best PSX games, did the same.

And ldts not ignore the fact that pc's library just trumps xbox library any day

Because the PC release of FF7 wasn't done via Emu. I very much doubt FF8 was either: that was the only FF that had issues with source code.
What next The Tomb Raiders, Metal Gear Soild were all ported to the PC via Emu in the '90s

If it was an official release, then yeah, it isn' t exclusive to Playstation.
I stated that already, as well as saying "as far as I know".

So no idea where your fanboy accusation came from.

Then again, I'm fine with being labeled a fanboy. Doesn't really bother me.

MS really only has a chance to clinch America and to a smaller extent UK. Europe and Japan will never be MS land. The only way would be to make some magical hardware no one has ever thought possible on top of a game that becomes the next Minecraft but is exclusive....and MS would rather sell you their subscription service on PC/Xbox then care too much about hardware, to be perfectly honest.

But each console cycle refresh has a chance of totally changing who is on top. I don't think Sony is showing as much hubris as PS3 days like some are claiming...they literally just opened their ecosystem to crossplatform multiplayer (fucking finally, btw) and that is something that PS3 era Sony, if they were on top, would never have done.

Of course, it was official, Both FF 7 and 8 officially came out on the PC back in the day Many so-called consoles exclusives came out on the PC, even Sonic. I've never seen the issue.
PC and console gamers are different markets. It's more a BIG deal when a console exclusive moves to a rival console, compared to it being brought out on a PC IMO.

The Japanse market is a joke these days and is fast becoming mobile/HH central. MS does well enough in the USA and UK to make serious dosh. But it really needs to do far better in the likes of Germany and France and do its very best to make sure the gap isn't as big next get

Where MS really dropped the ball this gen was in the 360 era that for many developers was the lead platform and lead system. Thanks to bad tools, underpowered GPU and terrible calls over Kinect MS lost all that lead development support and that has hurt the Xbox brand so much. MS can't really allow that to happen again and need to go all out on the GPU and CPU side

Xbox was never going to "win" when it comes to consoles. Outside of North America and possibly the UK, they have no real chance of coming out ahead, even if Sony were to somehow fuck up even worse than they did with the PS3. Keep in mind that the PS3 released over a year later than the Xbox 360 and cost 300 Euros more, yet it still handily wiped the floor with Microsoft's console in terms of sales in continental Europe and Asia.

It's being slowly starved of cash by the higher ups at MS because the profit it generates for them is tiny.

When compared to Sony who fund AAA exclusives and purchase AAA studios, Xbox can only afford to fund PC AA titles like Gears 5 and buy cheap indie studios on the verge of going bankrupt (Black Isle etc). The difference is stark.

It's like one's a premium brand Waitrose and Xbox is the supermarket equivalent of Iceland. Cheap produce and service.

Why is it that the Xbox team decided to start putting more effort into Windows and saying games would be available on both platforms? Are they preparing for an xCloud future where there will be no hardware? That's the only reason I can think of for not keeping Xbox games only on Xbox consoles.

I just wish they'd port some of the missing back catalogue to PC like Rare Replay, Gears 2, 3, Judgement. But I guess these will be all be playable via xCloud in the future.

Exclusives going to other platforms, incl PC, is a problem when 90% of your games library is already available on your direct competitors platform to begin with.

That's the entire issue with MS and Xbox.

True that hardware wise it's mostly mobile, but game development from Japan is still huge and a huge selling point for the rest of the world. While games like monster Hunter world are on both, some, like DQ 11 for example, are not. And manysmaller scale games remained exclusive as well. It's going to be hard for MS to change that in the future.

. One looks past the fanboy and points scorning nonsense (not for you) and one can work out that dictated PC and console gamers are different markets. It like some factions of fans can't see to work out that MS makes money off the PC not just from its game sales Any games that need Direct X or Windows to run will mean more revenue and even with the PC being more mainstream than ever MS has sold millions of Xbox One units and seen LIVE revenue grow and grow.

A far bigger loss to an Xbot or Xbox fanboy is when an Xbox exclusive jumps ship to the PS4, not the PC. I've been a SEGA fanboy most of my life and it never bothered me when SEGA were porting Mega CD and Mega Drive games to PC and looked to hugely expanded that on with SEGA PC DC and Saturn games. What hurt far more is when one saw the likes of Code Veronica, Souky, Grandia 1/2 appear on SONY systems, that hurt more than a SEGA exclusive going to PC. It's so very childish but that's what it is to be a fanboy

I think you've got that the wrong way round. The sound and build quality of my Pro is like some random tool/item you find in the isle in Aldi/Lidl, it sells a lot and mainly bought by chav's. Xbox X is like its from John Lewis, a quality product that's well made and not bought as much by chav's and sells less.

Yeah, but the days of needing to sell well in Japan to get widespread Japanese support is over given the number of copies a game can sell in Japan.
There's a reason why even SONY launched the PS4 in the USA 1st. What MS needs to make sure is it sell in decent numbers in the USA that is crucial

You do realise the UK is a much smaller market than Japan tho right?
No not these days... you can top the Japanese charts these days with sales of less than 30k that's pathetic for a market like Japan, that was once a leader for video games
Nintendo does very well out of Japan. I would say more of the big developers and publishers in Japan have looked more to the west for years. Long gone are the days when Square didn't even need to look to the West.

Not too sure about if you combine ps4 and xbox sales UK v Japan Ps4 sales.
And include Switch.

Switch -1.4M
PS4 - 6M
Xbox - 5M

12.4M last Dec. (UK)

Switch - 7M
PS4 - 7.5M
Xbox - 0.1M

14.6M last Dec (Japan)

Japan is close to 20M now.

I haven't you seem to miss that A) Even if people give up and go to the PC MS makes money from PC Gamers on the software and API/OS side . B) even with people moving to the PC The Xbox division still brought in over $2 billion and upped the LIVE subscriptions.
Not quite as bad as some like to make out .

Think like you SONY need to pull out of the TV market because it can't match LG panel sales and so can't possibly make money being number 2 or 3.

What ones need to look at it are software sales. Did the likes of Seiko, DMC V Ect sell better in Japan or the UK? I think even most Japanese developers now look to the west,
Unless you're out of the AAA side and more mobile/portable gaming and so look to Nintendo and Japan. That's not a dig, just more the way Japan seems to be going.

I honestly hope Xbox doesn't steer too many of their new/existing 1st party studios towards single player games. Sony pretty much has that market cornered and even if they create something that's a 9 out of 10 game, it's not going to convert people back. Not saying I don't want them to create story driven games, just make them coop.

Even those are story driven games released by Sony they are still games that released on the market with their unique differences and gameplay..if you are adding so called fanboyism or small brain judgement like it's just same game concept then you will lose your gamer expectations on yourself then never discover new game ideas or "fun" playing on those games meanwhile this true weakness of Xbox it's just a multiplatform machine that doing its best no creative concepts that never achieved or being seen on it....it's just good as money skipper using its game pass but in reality is cruel this only good thing to do this console...
Why no creativity/versatile/unique on this console it's a just Jack of all trade, master of none

I can accept their hardware release like adaptive controller is so unique its usage but only that make them okay but pro controller just a waste of time to talk about it due their controller are just accessories with no unique function just a money baits like iPhones....

And to me, Xbox game pass is a not good idea just in future it will become a double edge sword for them in future due consumers will abuse its power to themselves that will have many usage(if continues mostly game companies will not support it if their game sales on Xbox is drops just guessing on that)

So my judgement on this console is not dying mostly in coma that need new breath of life that called "games" to be become more successful even it's not exclusive but it's features will show its power and unique console to its others

Meanwhile its X is powerful console but in reality.....just a damn excuse to get a new console for that so called powerful performance then that's it....I wish its many functions than being powerful it's a trash....idea to be called powerful

PC gamers are a tougher market than console. You are going to make less money.

And Xbox Live wouldn't survive without the Xbox console. Not the Live that you would recognize anyway.

What you are saying is for MS to follow SEGA. But there is a reason SEGA is far smaller than it used to be.

I leave my switch docked at all times.
If a dog is born in a stable it doesn't make it a horse. So i'll rephrase, consoles dedicated to home play only but with the option to stream to another device away from home or be able to that soon.

There was more hype around Xbox Scorpio than there is around Scarlett , Xbox One X started off with a nice push from Microsoft but it seems like they quickly gave up on it you can get a Xbox One X for $402 right now but no one seems to care that it's $97 off . You can get the Xbox One S A.D for $200 right now but no one seems to care, These are Holiday shopping prices but it's not creating a buzz at all , if people are not buying these consoles with 19% off discounts it has to be the brand that is undesired. Even walking into a retail store like Wal-Mart the Xbox section is like a 3rd the size of the PS4 section like everyone is giving up on Xbox.

Next year the biggest competition for PS5 & Xbox Scarlett will still be PS4 & Switch so Scarlett will need to bring the Xbox brand back in a crowded market & if it fail to gain traction at launch will Microsoft continue to push it or just move on to the Games as a service model?
Please stop posting. Thank you.

don’t think all of this is in response to you, but this thread is out of control with fanboyism and heavy assumptions from arm chair quarterbacks.

3rd party indie developers will benefit the most from Xbox Live on the switch and other consoles. If you have 4 small communities across Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC, you will have 1 large community with cross play. If they choose Xbox live as that platform then so be it. Microsoft put a lot of money into them Azure servers and even Sony knows it.

The only game from Microsoft that’s on every platform is Minecraft, but that was released before the Mojang purchase. You can’t just stop selling Minecraft. As for Cuphead and Ori, why is that even an issue that those would be on Switch? Cuphead has a 3 person team, give them money. Moon Studios also deserves a larger crowd. Either way they have no plans for future games at the moment to be on any other platform.

Also Xbox is a platform, not just a console. Just being in one spot is rather limiting especially when you have an OS with Xbox so heavily integrated into it. But with the next-gen Xbox, you will have a hard time building a PC for under $1000, that will be within the same realm of visual quality at 4K for quite a while. So really the best experience will be there. There are far more console players than PC players and it will probably stay that way as well.

So, the thing with this part of your argument is this will be true for PS5 as well, the difference being PS5 will have ACTUAL exclusives whereas everything Scarlet does will be available on PC.

Who honestly cares that much? If it’s on the Xbox platform it’s on the Xbox platform. I don’t subscribe to HBO for Showtime shows. I also don’t subscribe to Netflix for Prime shows. Not to mention, I can watch Netflix anywhere, but that doesn’t mean their shows are any less exclusive. in reality the Xbox PLATFORM is not on other systems, only their back end API, Xbox Live which keeps your account straight.

I’m not sure why a console exclusive matter when both Sony and Microsoft are in the business to sell games, no one makes money on the console, they make it on the services, games, media and add-ons for those games. A console is just a portal EXCLUSIVELY to those things and nothing else. In my opinion Sony doesn’t offer me flexibility, I can’t save my game and pick up somewhere else unless it’s on another console. But let’s be real, PlayStation is a platform as well, it’s up to Sony to want to build a PC launcher.

The fact that the PC integration has been there for years and sales didn't dwindle just shows that barely anyone shills about the Xbox games going to PC.

And honestly, as far as I've seen in my life, the average joe console gamer doesn't want a PC, he wants to put and play the game, also it's cheaper to buy a console than a PC equivalent or superior, and not to mention that lots of console owners doesn't even know shit about PC gaming hardware.

Another thing is that, PC gaming = Windows gaming most of the time, I could say that the Microsoft exclusive makes sense because its from Microsoft Xbox to Microsoft Windows, they want a share of the PC gaming market that has grown a lot thanks to Steam, and they have the OS that its installed in 85-90% of the computers.

You're talking like I can't get Gears 5 and Master Chief Collection on Steam, like I need to go through Windows Marketplace. Netflix is a weird comparison, there's nothing I need to buy to access Netflix and their exclusive shows ARE available as separate physical purchases from watching them streaming. The only thing keeping me playing XBOX games through anything XBOX related is the amazing deal on Gamepass, but they take the price up from where it is one day and I'll be back to sale-waiting their big games on Steam. You're also under-valuing the purpose of consoles, buying a console is an investment and we tend to try and make good on our investments, say by buying their exclusives at launch. The 3 million people who bought Spider-Man the first weekend is a lot more revenue than the 3 million people who simply PLAYED Gears 5 opening weekend. Think about that, that Gears 5 didn't exceed Spider-Man despite Spider-Man being a 60 dollar game, how does that look for their revenue model? By entering the PC space they need to compete for my time with humble monthly bundle giving me anywhere from 6-10 games for 11 dollars a month, Twitch Prime giving me monthly games, Epic Game Store giving me weekly free games and of course Steam deals. Nevermind an abundance of free to play options which now even includes Destiny 2. Sony is making the smartest business move by having games like God of War and TLOU 2 I can only play on their console and require 60 dollars at launch to experience. Microsoft is trying to play the long game like a Netflix but right now it just emphasizes how meaningless Scarlet looks to a lot of us.

You make it sound like Console and PC gamers are the same thing. You also make it sound like console gamers care that they’re favorite games are on PC. However, the only way the scarlet would look meaningless to anyone would be if they’ve already made up their mind as to who they prefer and holds no water to someone that likes the Xbox platform. I have a PS4 Pro and a PC and I’m happy, but depending on what platform exclusives come out, I may want to play them in my living room rather than my computer room. That’s how I base my opinions.

I'm a PC gamer who plays console games as well. That's why I have a PC and PS4 Pro and only USED TO have an Xbox One. Switch is something I want to get but I've been waiting for it to support Metroid Prime trilogy in some way or release Metroid Prime 4. Games sell consoles for me and in that sense it's hard to know why I, in particular, should care about Scarlet.

You don’t have to care, you have your bases covered unless Scarlet can do something your PC can’t. as do I. That won’t hurt you or me, and it sure as hell don’t hurt Microsoft if you happen to still like their games, or even Gamepass. No matter which path you choose and you buy or subscribe to one of their products, they win. Not only that, but you win too. Why should we even care about console sales if we’re happy with our selection and choices? I still don’t see why people get so bent out of shape about all this.

i also has an Xbox One this gen , but it died, so I went PS4 Pro, PC, and soon I’ll be getting a Switch. I also subscribe to Gamepass on PC. I got games man.
