The Teknoparrot emulator just got a big upgrade bringing Chihiro emulation to Teknoparrot with an easy setup! Using Xemu emulation underlying the process its still early but you got to love new emulation news! This is why retro gaming is making a comeback...more emulation!
and now the original Wangan Midnight Maximum Tuned 1 has near perfect emulation on Teknoparrot!
- 00:01–00:39 — The video showcases Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 1 running through TeknoParrot using Sega's Chihiro/TriForce-style Xbox-based arcade hardware emulation. The creator explains that Chihiro is essentially an enhanced original Xbox arcade board with extra RAM, but emulating it has historically been difficult.
- 00:39–01:13 — The creator compares Chihiro emulation to standard Xbox emulation, noting that arcade variants behave very differently despite similar hardware. Games like Crazy Taxi 3 work fine on Xbox emulators, but the arcade versions have long suffered from bugs, glitches, and instability.
- 01:13–02:05 — Recent TeknoParrot builds dramatically improved compatibility and stability for Chihiro games. The creator says Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 1 now runs "rock solid stable," calling it a major win for arcade preservation and emulation. Community testers and TeknoParrot developers actively contribute beta builds and bug reports.
- 02:05–02:55 — A major advantage highlighted is TeknoParrot's ease of use: controller mapping, wheel/pedal support, and simplified setup make arcade titles far easier to enjoy compared to configuring original arcade boards manually. The video praises the "set it and forget it" experience.
- 03:10–03:56 — Gameplay performance is described as nearly flawless. Physics, handling, frame pacing, and overall responsiveness closely match authentic arcade hardware. The creator notes that some other Chihiro titles like The House of the Dead III and Virtua Cop 3 still experience frame drops and inconsistent emulation.
- 03:56–05:32 — The video discusses Sega's use of Xbox-based arcade hardware during the early 2000s, describing it as a visual evolution of the Dreamcast/Naomi era. The creator also mentions Sega's close partnership with Xbox during that period, including the U.S. exclusivity of Shenmue II.
- 05:32–06:26 — A key emulation insight: each game stresses hardware differently. Even on identical arcade boards, one game may emulate perfectly while another struggles because of unique CPU, GPU, or audio calls. The creator emphasizes that flawless emulation of one title does not guarantee full compatibility across the platform library.
- 06:26–07:18 — Other Chihiro titles like OutRun 2 are beginning to show improvement in TeknoParrot, though not yet perfect. The creator especially praises TeknoParrot's work in preserving arcade-exclusive experiences and restoring the "best versions" of games that were altered in home console ports.
- 07:18–08:31 — The creator closely examines the graphics and concludes that the emulation output appears authentic: HUD elements, reflections, tunnels, cherry blossom scenery, and polygon rendering all resemble real hardware behavior. The Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series is praised as one of the best arcade racing franchises ever made.
- 09:27–10:20 — The conclusion frames TeknoParrot as essential for preserving arcade games from the 2000s onward — an era largely untouched by traditional emulators like MAME. The creator argues that original Chihiro cabinets are becoming increasingly rare, making accurate emulation critical for long-term video game preservation.
The Teknoparrot emulator just got a big upgrade bringing Chihiro emulation to Teknoparrot with an easy setup and now FINALLY OutRun 2 and OutRun 2 SP on Sega Chihiro hardware emulate near perfectly! Plus the OutRun 2 beta! and of course OutRun 2 SP SDX on Teknoparrot but that's a diff board! Its still early but you got to love new emulation news! This is why retro gaming is making a comeback...more emulation!
