Xbox Game Pass Is The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Gaming

Heisenberg007

Gold Journalism
Every year the 12 month PS+ subscription goes on sale a couple of times for $59.95. I always buy one and stack it onto my existing subscription. Been doing that for quite a number of years now.
The regular price is $59.99 for the year. It goes on sales quite routinely to $40 and $45. If you buy from websites like cdkeys, you can snatch it for $25-$35.

And considering the quality of games that PS+ offers routinely, that is pure value.

So, the fact that it never happened once is a good sign in your book.
Forza Horizon 4 is the highest rated racing game in two generations. Playground is now working on the next game and is also making Fable. And then Bethesda works on The Elder Scrolls, usually regarded as top RPGs, Starfield is coming as well, iD has been perfecting DOOM for years and are top dogs in their field as well, Obsidian may have had a dip but is now working on multiple big projects with a bigger wallet, plus all other studios.
The signs are looking very good if you ask me!

I must be one of the rare outliers, but I buy a lot of games when there's sales on steam, cdkeys, greenmangaming, psn. Plus there's epic giving a some of games offered on gamepass for free. I own a PC so I don't have access to the backlog xbox console users do. But honestly PC version for gamepass is kind of meh. I have spirit fairer, ori, and carrion installed and thats what I could muster. I recently bought zodiac age for PS4 physical for $20. And recently it was added to gamepass.

I guess it honestly depends on your gaming habits and how you consume content. If you never tried the yakuza's I would literally tell you to sign up for gamepass as they are now all on there. But I already own all of them some on PC and all of them minus Like a dragon on PS4.

There's nothing that sticks out as a "Must play now" type of title. And the backlog of stuff thats mediocre like crackdown 3 I have no intentions of installing. I bought gears 5 on a sale on steam. I literally booted up Medium and it ran like ass even when dropping down a lot of stuff.

If you own an xbox i would say Gamepass is a must honestly. There's just too much available when you count OG xbox, and 360 titles. But for me I signed up for 3 months and I've played only 2 games. Which are indie and have not completed yet.

Yet I am playing God of war on my PS5 for the 5-6th time and enjoying the shit out of it. Shruggs, it's not for everyone.

That feeling when you get to the end of a console generation and the only thing you actually own is a plastic box.

It will be the best feeling in the history of gaming.

It's a nice demo/rental service. I'll give it that. If humble bundle hadn't started shitting the bed the moment IGN took over that would still be the best value service in gaming and the games are yours to keep forever.

WAIT IGN owns humble bundle? I've bought so many of those holiday bundles.

Yep, as of late 2017. The quality in games offered on the monthly sub (now called choice) took a nosedive pretty much immediately after they took over. Although this mont'hs offering is pretty decent it must be said.

But what's funny about threads like this is that it's like people ignore the fact that origin access on PC offered (and still does offer) a lot of games in exactly the same way that gamepass does and it started doing it a long time before gamepass did. It's also cheaper for the basic sub.

Origin Access became EA Play and is now on Gamepass, an added bonus on top of the other Gamepass library. Tbh I have no idea how they pulled that off. Why is EA giving away their subs??

I gamed a bunch more than usual 2020 due to the pandemic and none (0!) of the games I played are on gamepass.

It’s just not a value for me. I like to only play the best games. The issue for me isn’t finding games to fill up my time, it’s finding time to play games.

Edit: This isn’t entirely accurate. I played Yakuza 0 last year (and loved it). I think that game is on gamepass now. It cost me $10 to buy used and took me a little than two months to work through so Gamepass would’nt have saved me anything here.

Oh I sure hope AAA games will get shorter. So tired of the bloat. Most games should be around 10-20 hours imo, then the occasional epic journey of 50+ or so. More if you're completionist.

If you expect me to spend 100+ hours on a game, forget it. I wanna play several Assassin's Creed games, but man, can't be bothered. Too big.
Well, you are not required to finish the long games in one sitting. You can take your time through the game (the ones that are longer.)

It's not on PC unless I'm missing something? Just fired up the app, searched for Mass Effect and FIFA and got nothing.

I'm talking about EA access on PC which has always had 100+ games available to play. Not just EA titles either, there's always been a load of 3rd party titles available on the service, and good ones at that.

Here's the current list of titles:

As you can see there is actually quite a bit of crossover between the 3rd party titles available on Origin access and gamepass.

You’re right it’s only on console right now, rumored to appear soon on PC though.
Haven’t dug through all EA Play games on Gamepass but it’s a big number of titles. I have no idea why EA is doing that, it was just there one day with no added cost.

EA play on consoles is just EA games, you get none of the 3rd party titles that are offered via the PC version of the service.

And with that in mind you're essentially getting free entry to EA's casino, microtransactions till your heart's content. What's not to love :messenger_smiling_with_eyes: . I kid... kind of, but that's how they will make their money back.

Are you talking about a specific type of games here? The way I’m looking at it the fruits are already hanging there, I mean I don’t see many games like DOOM and The Elder Scrolls from Sony and Nintendo so unless you have very specific taste in games their new studios are already capable of competing, and with a bigger budget they could be even better and bigger, and unless they change their strategy their games will appear on Gamepass like the rest. It’ll be awesome!

elder scrolls and doom are old games

like I said, the potential is there, but it hasn’t been realized yet

Not interested in that. I want sensible length that I can finish without spending months. So I steer away from super long games. Have yet to play one that is actually worth that kind of time investment.

Fair enough but that goes for everyone. It’s not less likely that Bethesda will make an awesome new RPG than that Sony Santa Monica will make an awesome new action game or Nintendo will make an awesome new platformer. They all have a history of making metascore ~95 games, they’re just at the top of different genres.

I guess up to you. If you are interested in playing AC games, you can basically assign a set number of missions that you will try to get through and then take a break after. All I am trying to point out is that there is flexibility for how you tackle longer games but if there is a game you enjoy and its shorter then only way to get more from it is by playing it over and over which will get repetitive but I guess when it comes to repetitiveness, Assassins Creed games are not the best example to use to say this. lol

I far more enjoy finishing a game wanting more, than stopping because I lose interest.

I'm one of those gamers who easily gets roped into doing every thing nearby on the map, and it sucks. Makes playing things like assassin's creed next to impossible, heh.

$59.95 AUD is sale price.. I'm in Australia. $79.95 is full price for 1 year here.

Agreed, the value is amazing.

Gotcha. Fair enough. I can understand that. I am not consistent in how I play games (these days the only game I am playing is Destiny 2) but where I can relate with you on that is if a game has a decent story with good character development, then I get hooked and it's not easy for me to put it down until I am finished with it - I have to see it through, games like Uncharted, Prince of Persia SOT, etc.

Well I might go play Jedi Fallen Order from Gamepass right now.

Why are people trying to compare PS+ to Gamepass? You do realize Gold comes with free games every month too?

You’re clearly not factoring Microsoft growing list of 1st party studios into the equation here.

There is nothing at this point that says that a MS studio won’t make the best game ever, and since all MS games are on Gamepass the best game ever will in that case be on Gamepass. 🥳
Nothing at this point?...... Fucking lol

Sony's first party is 'cinematic' junk for children who are easily impressed by B movie plots and 'press X to continue'. Listening to you clowns act as though it's the second coming of Christ is just hilarious.
The funny thing its how some sad and mediocre losers keep telling themselves this utter bullshitt to make them feel better themselves by the subpar output of Microsoft, yep the same clowns who hype things like the médium

Really, it’s great now and it’ll just get better going forward when all studios start opening the floodgates.

And it’s also fun just trying out different game types you would never try if you had to buy them. Like sports games for me, I would never waste money just to see if I like a sports game since I have zero interest in sports.
But if it’s free? Sure why not.

And you don’t have to play a game for 30-40+ hours unless you end up loving them and want to finish them. You never feel like you wasted your money if you uninstall a game after 5 hours so you never have to waste your time on a game you don’t really like, you never payed for it anyway so you can just go -uninstall- without feeling bad about it. It’s great!
Ahahha... And Mcdonald is the best restaurant...

Shit like The Medium and Grounded? Have a day off.

MS Studios didn't put out a single great game (NOT ONE) last gen so the notion that all of this gens best games will be on MS machines is very hard to believe. Enjoy your alternative reality I guess...

I can smell your salt all the way over here. Saying MS did not put out any great games makes you look silly. Also who even said anything about Microsoft Studios? I said the best game of this gen are in Game Pass.

I can tell you one of those that hate when people talk about MS potentially buying studios and how good Xbox is doing now. Microsoft is just too good, get use to it. :messenger_grimmacing_

Until we actually see the fruits of all these studios, it is a wait and see game. ANd not every new studio hits home runs their first try. Obsidian will make a great game, Avowed looks like it will be what Obsidian does best for western rpg's. But honestly the rest? It's super early to tell. I mean perfect dark announcement did not really get a lot of people hyped. Nor with it showing a cgi video does it give you any indication of the game being close to release.

I know they have top tier talent at a lot of these studios, but it doesnt automatically mean greatness on the first go.

We all can play this petty game:

Bullshit.

Forza Horizon 4, Sea of Thieves, Gears 5, Minecraft/Dungeons, MS Flight, Killer Instinct, Sunset Overdrive, Age of Empires and more would like to say hello and good day.

MCC had years of being a total shitbag but it is now a wonderful high quality extreme value for money game.

Dont say we because you dont speak for everybody. For you its a wait and see game.

As for your metacritic link with paid press reviews it does not stack up the thousands of real gamers that actually buy the games and post their reviews. Also the sales of The Medium proves even more that meta means nothing. The game launched on Game Pass and still was a sales success. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

LMAO, why do you all get so triggered about Xbox? It just does not make sense. Go talk about your platform. We dont care about it, we good over here. Play on playa!

Isn't Gamepass what MS had in mind when they marketed the xbox one's " game tied to system always connected to the cloud" which drew so much ire and derision that Sony capitalised with that classic short video showing you could still sell or lend physical copies of games on PS4 the old fashioned way?

Now Gamepass is the bees knees. Funny how a concept lives or dies based on how it is marketed.

When they allow 5 accounts under one subscription (like office 365) I will agree best deal ever.

You must be one of those people that puts up their Christmas tree in September. The new generation has just started and you're already claiming 'victory'?! Now be honest, you actually leave the tree up all year round don't you? Cuz it's never not Christmas...
