After the hell I endured to get it, let's just say I'm a bit over-cautious.

:lol

Dude, if it can't run overnight without fucking up - then there is something wrong with it to begin with. Would you rather find out sooner or later? I'm not saying go ahead and let it run overnight, but you shouldn't be afraid to.

You're right. I just thought it was bad in general to leave stuff on for long periods of time. Not that I applied that frame of mind to any of my other systems but the 360 really seems unstable. I did play PDZ and Kameo for long, long periods of time though without any problems. I'm just overreacting. I don't want it to die. =\

I can understand your frame of mind.

None of us want it to die. It's an expensive piece of machinery.

I do the same thing, brandonh83. I guess I kind of baby it... I mean it's $400. I got it a couple of weeks ago and for the first week I would unplug the power cord from the outlet after I turn it off because I didn't want it to overheat. You know so the power brick doesn't have that orange light. Still do it sometimes :o

Calm down, kids...

I think we can all agree that there are some things that still need to be taken care of on Xbox Live. For as well as it works, we have every right to demand updates to make a great experience even better.

Likewise...I think some people did jump the gun with what they wanted the update to fix. There was no real confirmation of what Microsoft was updating and I'm glad I remained skeptical. I feel the same towards the CoD2 update tomorrow. I'd love for it to enable server listings, lobbies, and even bump up the player count to 16 players, but it seems to me that a lot more work would have to be put into that than we all think. I think the update will only do what it says it does: fix some of the lag people are finding in game.

Hopefully someone at Microsoft or Infinity Ward or whomever takes a look at this thread and sees what people really want updated....

I dont even see the update, nothing happens when I log in. If fact, the featured downloads list rarely shows up. Could it be the servers are being hammered?

What's with the orange light anyways? Does a power outlet really need an "I'm plugged in" light? Why does my TV have a red light on when the TV is off, instead of the other way around? WHY!?!?!

I think you guys need to calm down a bit...its just a videogame system, not a real live baby lol...

If it makes u feel better, the system is under warranty, so if it ever breaks down, just ship it to microsoft and theyll fix it free of charge

Mine didnt upgrade on log in. It did it when I tried to play a LIVE ARCADE game.

Give that a shot.

Yeah my "game room" has enough electronics with 'off lights' that I can walk through the room in the dark without fear. The TV, the Xbox brick, my computer modem, my router... I can't imagine how much energy must be wasted over the course of the year.

Major Nelson's podcast is today so he may have all the details for us.

Not that there seems to be much to talk about from face value.

unless im delusionary the menu's are definitely faster. the guide now swings out pretty fast instead of lagging for a second then skipping out.

I've not used it enough to notice, but good thing they fixed that first.. it was really nagging me!

I'd love them to fix the DVD player. On some DVDs the menus are washed out. Revenge of the Sith especially has this problem. Movie itself plays fine.

Yeah, thats what I thought, I'm trying to find a long list of downloads, like all the team skins under Madden or some other sports game, to check if quickly scrolling works better now. It used to be that if you scrolled through fast, you had to wait a sec for it to download more fo the icons and data.

EDIT: looks like it was fixed, I think. Every time I scrolled, I'd stop and let it load when the loading icon popped up. This time I didn't, and it loaded as I scrolled. Not sure if it was that way before. Can anyone confirm?

Seems to be true, plus no more tearing on it, either.

The playback for me in general is bad. DVD's seem to run slower or something.

i really like watching dvd's on my 360. i dont notice any picture quality problems (though, im not a videophile) and i find it to be REALLY responsive and fast.

Well the first DVD I put in was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and it was really choppy. Then I tried From Dusk Till Dawn, and it was a bit slow but not as bad as Azkaban. I haven't tried anything since.

Mine runs ok as a DVD player. Nothing great, it's not of the quality of a mid-high end upscaling player, but it's pretty good.

My issue is that mine (Anyone else wanna confirm) has issues with DTS tracks.

They play ok for a bit, but then go apeshit. The skip[ and pop and sound all jarbled. It's really disgustingly annoying.

DD tracks play perfectly fine, though.

My Xbox 360 took about two or three DVDs to get it situated.... it still starts out really slow, but it gradually gets better throughout the movie.

I watch a lot of movies on mine, I got rid of my DVD player in order to hook up Dolby Digital straight to my 360.

My BIG DVD complaint (and it is a worthy complaint) is that 4:3 DVD's are not shown in a proper aspect ratio on widescreen TV's! WTF? So, Arne, could you pass on the request for better (any) aspect ratio control for DVD's? Thanks.

When I turned it on, a blade, on the right side of the screen appeared saying that I new update was out, asking me if I wanna update right now.

Then It showed a download bar, after it finished, the 360 reset by itself.

Strange that for some people nothing happend.

Same here.

Bad news. I know of two people that have had hang-ons opening the guide while playing COD2. The bad new is that before this update it never happened :lol

Mine is working exactly the same than before. Frozen while loading a save on SC: CT

so i heard the new update disables that kiosk disk

ye just tried mine now and it says the disc is unreadable, there was nothing of interest on it for me though so no loss.

That's the best thing you've ever did.

Damn right it is... when the PS3 comes it is going to have to fight for the Optical chord with my 360, but I can probably figure out something before then.

What was the point of them disabling the kiosk disc? Can't you just unplug/format your hard drive to play it again?

nah the update isnt stored on the hardrive, its part of the firmware on the board itself,it must download it flash the firmware then reboot the machine pc style, which is probably why theres a few reports of this update killing a few 360's

Here are some of the changes in this update:

Improvements to the Xbox Guide.
Option to retain your saved games when you delete a profile.
Increased accuracy of "last time played."
Network configuration improvements for Xbox Live® members in the Netherlands.
More detailed messaging for unreadable disk or region errors.
This free update is available to all Xbox Live members. Your console will be updated the next time you sign in to Xbox Live.

the way microsoft forces this update really sucks.. I was playing DOA4 in winner-stays and was watching a friend of mine whooping some lame ryu cheapskate (some noob who could't win without teleport attacks/grabs) when suddenly my friend disconnected.. which was weird.. then i got in the ring, and in the second round my box froze, went to the dash, flashed the update, and turned my box on/off.. Really annoying that this update just autoupdates! Would have been nice if MS would ask!

anyway, microsoft/tecmo should look into the cheating that's going on in DOA4.. Noobs running around with 'SS' grades sucks! And tone down Hayabusa as the teleport moves are overpowered.. as if the the tornado launchmove isn't bad enough (block -> stunned)
