Xbox Live going offline for up to 24 hours on Tuesday

Q: Why can you only play certian video types when logged onto live? Shouldn't those media updates be hardcoded (or whatever) and not require you to be online to use them?

Have you recently had your 360 repaired? I had the same problem, apparently the media update is licensed just like games so I had to redownload it for it to work offline.

What does "Tier 6" represent?

That may be talking about your community level. In the past you could see your level when you posted on the xbox.com forums.

Nah, that's not it. My "community user level" is 1.

Today was a typical XBL Maintenance day, really.

1) Service down for slightly longer than expected.
2) Engineers/Technicians post on blogs to say everything is finished.
3) Everyone rushes to load up their Xbox.
3) Everyone realises Marketplace is fucked.
4) 12 hours later, Marketplace is still fucked up and not a peep from Redmond because everyone is in bed.

What the hell type of game are these guys playing at the 'Xbox Operations Center'? If this kind of thing would have happened once, I could understand, but it happens consistently whenever there is any kind of update or maintenance required.

I think if they worked for any other company they'd had been fired a long time ago.

Hey, at least nothing big was on the docket.

Oh no wait, it was literally the most high profile release day in XBLA history.

I don't think I've ever wanted two XBLA games more the M:TG and Rocket Riot. I waited months for today.

And THIS is the day they decide to upgrade the infrastructure? ARGH

...and they deleted the last 2 weeks of content. :lol

But at least we'll know for sure when it's back, because the content isn't there!

Oh no wait, all the new games are there and you can even get the trial or pay for the full version, you just can't download it, so the only way to check is keep trying and trying and trying and fucking retrying.

God damn it.

I know. This sucks big time.

Seriously. Dying.

I've never really been too personally burned by the littany of MS clusterfucks over the years. Got the Crackdown/Halo 3 beta a bit early, I'm always up early for stuff I want to beat the rush...

But this...

THIS....

I've tried downloading Magic so many times I've lost count. It was an insta-purchase for me from the moment it was announced. Too bad I decided to buy it without reading the forums first.

Well, I did the same thing. Don't feel bad.

Oh I love when Mjolnir pulls shit like this:

I just got back from Iraq, and catching up on some email when I see that weÂ’re seeing an issue affecting a small amount of content on Xbox LIVE Marketplace since the service came back online. In other words, you may have problems accessing some of the content. I want to let you know that the LIVE engineers are actively engaged and working on getting this resolved as soon as possible.
Thanks for your patience.

You just can't say "The Hot New Arcade Releases" can you?

D:

People here are complaining about one day of necessary maintenance... Note... maintenance... that everybody was informed of well in advance?

Did he really just pull some sort of Bush-esque patriotism card to cloud over their inability to effectively run their business?

It's actually the second day. They announced a 24 downtime for all of yesterday, which occurred. Now they've just completely screwed up their content delivery system where people can purchase the content, it deducts their points, but the content will not download.

I dont think people are so much complaining about the day of maintenance as they are that now 16 hours after the maintenance was completed -- there are still a litany of issues. Those issues include most of the previous 2 weeks of XBL Marketplace content now missing and the inability to download the new XBLA games that came out today.

I've gotten an entirely new 360 not too long ago, guess that's it. Where do you go to manually DL it again (not that it'll do me much good right now anyways :lol )

Guide button -- > all the way to the right --- > account management --- > download history ---> scroll through hundreds of items until you see Optional Media Update --- > download

As e stated, we are tracking and in the process of resolving an interesting issue around Marketplace. As a part of the work we did yesterday, there were some updates to the tools we use to load content onto the service, and there are some unexpected failures with those new tools that affect new content added to the service in the previous 12-24 hours leading up to the downtime. That is the only issue of significance we are tracking at this time.

:lol :lol :lol

Yeah, that's not good along with all that missing content. Are Achievements still registering and what about the Ghostbusters costumes from GameStop?

Next time just say 2 days maintenance so we can be pleasantly surprised when it doesn't go over schedule.

.

The 360 has put me through more clusterfucks (hardware and service based) than any other gaming machine I have ever owned (and I've been gaming since the 80's), yet for some reason I keep going back to it.

Damn this, I want my Sam and Max.

Them treating the divx files as content I needed to be signed in to watch is what forced me to move all my divx watching over to the PS3 so I don't have to put up with the headache anymore.

Every single fucking time.
There's something to be said for consistency, I suppose. Have they ever had downtime both end on time and/or not result in service problems after it comes back? I can't think of a single time.

One hour 20 minutes, supposedly:

I know I am taking a big risk in this crowd by suggesting an ETA, but we are reasonably confident we will have this working within about 2 hours, so by 8:45pm Pacific.

Can anyone get the 1 vs 100 game that is currently happening to work or is that screwed up, too?

Ghostbusters code goes unrecognized right now. Can't get sweet flight suit until they fix the marketplace. :(

I was hopping this maintenance was signaling that the next dashboard update was right around the corner, but it seems last year the 360 had maintenance in September but the dashboard update didn't arrive until November.

Live is still offline? :lol

Good thing I never tried to sign in today. I would have been pissed. Fortunately, I'm at home right now so I could play with my brother whenever I got bored.

It is back online.

All is right in the gaming world.
