Yup, they are giving away their flagship game for free on top of a price cut damn. MS are more concerned with getting the console into peoples hands than any potential sales of the game.

The continent will get closer than anywhere else to the ratio's seen in Japan.
The console being cut from £429 to £399 is permanent.
Titanfall being bundled is temporary.

It's actually very smart, they probably had plans to drop the price to keep up with PS4 sales anyway but throwing in Titanfall will sell consoles. Dire straights is pushing it, more like just wanting to get their console into as many homes as possible early on. I think it's pretty clear that MS aren't going to just let the XB1 slide into a Wii U type situation, they're going to aggressively market this thing and make sure Sony don't get too far ahead early on which can only be a good thing.
I think some are getting a little ahead of themselves in sales terms, this generation is only months in, Sony have the momentum but it doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of it, Sony doing extremely well doesn't automatically mean MS is doing bad especially with Nintendo's market share seemingly up for grabs now.

Hacking projects using the OG kinect sensor were really popular... so I assume it's for that (as you can't buy the unit solus yet)

That seems like a bunch of hoops to jump through just for price parity with PS4. You end up with a system that has no specific distinction from the PS4 other than exclusives, and with lower specs. You sell off Titanfall, the "game of the generation" according to Microsoft, and you sell Kinect, a major feature the PS4 doesn't have.
I am a CheapAssGamer, for sure. I sell all my stuff off when I am done with it to invest in new games/consoles. But this seems like you are stripping the system down to it's undies just to get a similar price as the PS4.

If your average consumer in the US catches a whiff of this price cut in the UK, are they going to rush out and buy the Titanfall bundle in the states? Couldn't some potential buyers try to wait it out to see if the system gets a price cut in the US in the next couple of months?

LOL. Price parity is the same price on the retail shelf. They still have a long way to go.
Obviously some will find it good value and some wont, you could say that about anything.
but looking at what you get with the TF package as a stand lone item is good value in comparison to similar products.

A console with noticeably better visuals over last gen
will have the multplats from EA,take 2, activision, 2k,bethesda etc
a great online experience
exclusives games that I enjoy and wow me
motion gaming has me interested

Not everyone is gonna sell everything and the vast majority will keep all of it. In the real world people looking to buy a next gen system will be a buying a game with it and now its just a matter if they like Titanfall vs second son, Ryse vs KZ:SF, plants vs zombie vs Knack, 1080p/900p 30fps/60fps vs kinect + tv stuff.
There will be some that go PS4 and there will be some that go X1 people have different tastes.pepsi or coke (coke all the way)

They'll just start bundling other games with every console. Remember the SEGA GT/JSRF bundle?
Maybe they expect to offset the potential losses in those regions? (excluding the US of course)
EXACTLY what I was going to say. It'll definitely help, but likely won't move as many units as they would like around the UK. Might help a bit more in the US though.
Problem is that even with this great offer and big drop in price for UK market, they are still more expensive than PS4 bundles... which is more powerful console.
Sony has PS4 with Infamous for 15 GBP less.

Best thing for MS to happen would be PS4 being out of stock, like it is right now in the UK. Then people really dont get much choice and quite few might end up with XB1.
