I don't understand why a post realizing it was Lance Reddick in Quantum Break from the Wire gif is getting called out. Like, it half sounds like people who didn't realize Reddick was in QB.

Especially given that no one really watched the Wire. I only knew he was in the Wire from Quantum Break threads mentioning it before release. I never watched the Wire and I'm 36.

What? Seriously? No one watched the wire but, everyone played Quantum Break?

There's a whole world outside of Xbox games, you should occasionally come up for air.

At least we found something we can all unite over.

The Wire is fucking amazing and you're lesser for not having seen it.

I almost feel like if you're a frequent GAF'er its an even better experience because you suddenly realize where a bunch of reaction gifs come from and its kind of surreal

I know you're trying to be clever with this post, but think a bit more.

We're on a Gaming forum. In an Xbox related thread. The assumption would be that when you post a gif of Lance in here, more posters are probably going to recognise him from an Xbox game than a TV Show that didn't set the world on fire.

I know the Wire. I tried to get into the show a couple of years back. Didn't grab me. But the Wire was hardly a show that had an impact in the TV zeitgeist of its time. Lance Reddick isn't a big name actor.

Guess what? Nolan North was on TV Before Uncharted!!! Shocking I know. But guess where 99.99% of GAF members will know him from if you asked?

Best show ever imo.

This is totally wrong, the wire's impact was massive......it took awhile but people caught on, the show got it's due after it aired, and is mentioned/referenced all over the place. The Wire is one of the most ordered shows in HBO history, right up there with sopranos....

Hence why I said "of its time". Like other shows, it's populatrity grew after the fact.

It's not like Breaking Bad which exploded straight away and turned Cranston into a household name. Point is, I can completely understand why a gamer on a gaming forum in an Xbox thread would recognise Lance Reddick as a Quantum Break actor as opposed to the Wire.

That was ultimately the point.

Ok I get ya, but FYI, BB never exploded, it was nearly cancelled several times, it was not until S4 people caught on, gen pop slow lol.

True 'dat.

Tell me I'm not late

By the time real news about this damn machine pop up, I won't know because the thread sticking to the front page tells me jack shit.

1. The Wire
2. Breaking Bad
3. The Sopranos

going back to a question that I posed earlier, do we have any idea if this will output games in Dolby Atmos or is that done by the publisher directly? I'm upgrading my Home Theater reciever soon and will get some Atmos / Ceiling speakers shortly.

Breaking Bad was complete shit compared to the wire.

I would imagine like any source for sound, the developers are going to have to code their games to actually support Atmos. I'm sure the Atmos receivers can do some auto processing to use those height speakers like Dolby Pro Logic did with center and surround speakers but that's not really what the people who have these systems want. Hell, people get mad when their receivers DTS-HD lights don't come on.

Nah, The Wire is amazing but season 5 was full of poor storylines that did not fit with the rest of the show, first half of season 2 is not great either, it's not perfect. BB had some of the deepest characterisations and best acting you will ever see. Sure its not deeply realistic like the wire, but it's TV.

The Wire still the GOAT though

Sorry man, I'm just joking around. This is my "You've never seen Goodfellas?!!" post.

I really feel The Wire had a huge impact. I consider it to be the single best TV show ever made, and I'm not the only one that feels this way. I think you will enjoy it.

if there is ever any actual news there will most definitely be a new thread about it. we got a thread when a slide showed up at an AMD booth for fucks sake

Breaking Bad doesn't even enter the equation with those other shows. Come on.

There's got to be some big games at launch to entice consumers to part with what's likely to be a lot of cash.

I'm hoping for some big guns other than Halo, Forza and Gears.

Get Rare to create a couple of games like we had at the Xbox 360 launch and I'm all set.

Disagree....BB is fantastic, i'd put it over sopranos which was great in 1999....because the rest of TV was way behind, but it had a lot of poor episodes, heck you could miss 3-4 episodes in Sopranos and miss nothing, plot was not great. Characters and dialog were awesome though.,

Why would Scorpio need it when PS4 pro doesn't need it.
Just patch major games and it's good.

They did this in E3 2014 and you can see what happens.
Not saying i disagree with you but at this rate they should and i bet they will announce something won't let people wait for 2+ years, at least not in E3 2016.

Well, they need to announce stuff for later so we can play that later. And then when we're playing that stuff that was announced 1 or 2 years ago, they're announcing stuff 1 or 2 years from now again. The trick is to actually release the games, that way it won't be dry and we can look forward to something in the future.

I don't even watch E3 for the games, necessarily. It's more the hype. It's an event and a thing of its own that's fueled by game announcements, demoes, interviews, etc.

Platform holders can't pull Fallout 4 type reveals often. They're being watched with magnifying glasses and need to constantly wow people every year or else people won't buy their systems. Bethesda can stay dormant for years and not say anything until they feel like it. Sony, Nintendo, and MS would need to publish dozens of more games every year to be able to wow people with announcements of games that are releasing in that very year.

Amen. Sopranos > The Wire

Both are excellent. Agree that Breaking Bad isn't in the same league, the acting and subtle nods to established character traits is unbelievable, nothing comes close to the writing in these 2 shows.

Mad Men belongs with these giants. I love Braking Bad, but no.

Add Deadwood to that list, imo. I didn't think Mad Men was that great, although I enjoyed it.

And yet it's on every "most influential" and "greatest all time" TV show list? It's a major influence.

This thread has turned into what Microsoft has wanted all along, a water cooler conversation about TV.

So who's watching the playoffs this weekend?

Edit: Holy cannoli I'm a member!

This!

I told myself I needed to watch The Wire.. So I watched the first episode. It was okay? Not bad but didn't grab me. I need to at least finish the first season though, right?

Also, Xbox!

The Wire didn't grab me until about half way through season 1 then I couldn't stop watching. It's takes a bit to get settled in the groove of the characters which is why I think I didn't care for it at the beginning. Definitely persist and it will get you.

I'd be happy with a disk driveless digital only version of scorpio, i think the amount of sales(not that long after games release i add,bf1 tf2 just recently) we've seen on X1 make this option apeal to me.

I doubt a diskless version would happen but it would be nice to have the option.

No UHD drive? As an alternative, sure. But for me it would be seriously bad, PS4 Pro is bad enough, Switch is not helping me either, Scorpio too without UHD drive would honestly piss me off, especally since XB1S have one.

Caught between a rock and a hard place on this one.

Would love a diskless Scorpio in theory but if I get one then my XBO-S then has to stay under the TV for UHD purposes. Torn.
