I don't think Microsoft has the balls to make Scorpio digital-only, especially after all the bad press XBO got in 2013 as a result of a policy which didn't even go that far.

Personally, I'd love to see a smaller console as a result of no drive.

The Scorpio looks cool as hell, but unless it comes along with a brand new, sleek interface, I'm a big old PASS on this.

I have an Xbox One S, and I can't STAND the user interface.

I would take 1000 Wii U Smash Brother Interfaces over the Xbox's.

Please bring back those BLADESSSSSSSS!!!

I don't see the blades coming back, they were good but it's just not going to happen at least not anytime soon. However, I expect to see a new interface with the launch of scorpio...it would be a good idea to bring back the blades win10 style to show homage of the 360 era with the launch of scorpio, of course xb1 will also see that update as well.

We'll see.

If the Xbone isn't marginally better of an upgrade than PS4 Pro, I guess I'm no longer interested. One thing, slow ass UIs on a "premium" console cannot be a thing.

Your E3, MS.

No. They're an awful design

I want the New Xbox Experience back.

Kinect support is a bottleneck for the UI of Xbox Scorpio.

I really feel like Scorpio MUST be a total monster in terms of specs for it to have a prayer. IF it has some Zen based SoC (which I'm still very skeptical about to be honest) then there's a good chance that it could drive some serious visuals. Visuals which will make the inevitably high price tag seem worth it.

However IF it is still using some Jaguar variant CPU, then it almost doesn't matter how powerful it's GPU is, it's going to be totally hamstrung. All it will do is provide PS4 Pro style IQ upgrades and res boosts which can be difficult to really quantify to the general public.

There is a very good chance that, given it will have been out for a year, Sony will slash the price of the Pro this Black Friday. If they get some £250 (so £100 less than it currently retails for) Pro bundle, possibly with a big hitter like Fifa packed in, then it's going to make bank. 100%. If Scorpio comes out and simply offers Xbox One graphics on MS exclusives but at 4k, and retails for £400 or more (which seems like a real possibility given what we've been hearing from MS), then MS are going to have a major struggle. Sony will be able to afford to price cut the pro around BF. Scorpio is not going to retail for less than £350 at the very minimum (and that would be if it had a Jaguar CPU) and so MS could be faced with trying to compare their new, flagship console against a system which is potentially £100 - £150 or maybe more cheaper.

That could be an almost impossible sell if the power increase isn't instantly noticeable to even the average consumer.

IF, however, they bring the fire to E3 / whenever it is announced, and it's got wizardry that enables 1080p 60 on many titles, from Xbox exclusives to multiplats, then they will be fine - they'll get the hardcore crowd. It needs to be that strong though, because the average consumer won't give a shit about a slight boost in image quality compared to the PS4 Pro, and they likely won't even care about a big jump in image quality compared to the OG PS4 / Xbox One S if they can be bought for £200+ cheaper.

Its going to be a marginally better upgrade compared to Pro. Pro can't do many (current gen)technically advanced titles at native 4K and definitely less than a small handful at 4K60. Scorpio will have a much easier time of both of those.

Not to say every game will be native 4K, and many devs will probably sacrifice that for better graphics or what they can eke out in FPS anyway, but you'll definitely see a notable visual disparity.

Whether thats enough for you to buy into, that's the real question.

For me it is not, but Pro also isn't worth it compared to my good ol launch PS4. Maybe if the Xbox platform had native full support for OG Xbox games i'd jump into it for the first time since 360 S launched

You don't know that. It will be able to do more at native 4k, but 4k60 is likely going to be a pipedream unless it uses a Zen CPU. Jaguar will massively hold back 60 FPS on lots of things - it's one of the big reasons why 1080p60 is a struggle on the current systems - the 1080p isn't a problem for the GPU, the 60 FPS is a problem for the CPU.

I know we're still like 10 months out but come on man, I need this reveal to happen soon. I want specs. Give us some cool silicon to ogle. Give us the CPU. Tell us about the architecture. Then we can argue about how games will run. LOL

What's this?

the AMD CTO talking about infinity fabric
their new approach to build designs for everything
so AMD CPUs, GPUs, APUs, Sever Chips and Semi-Custom Chips
using their own IP and third party IP
all about scalability and flexibility

so whether or not this is already used for Xbox Scorpio (highly likely) it will be used for future potential new console semi-custom designs like PS5 or the Xbox after Scorpio

I don't think Scorpio will have Zen. But what it will have is a much stronger GPU and more important, better bandwidth.

Games that already run at 60fps on the consoles will have a much easier time scaling to 4K with those advantages, hence easier time of 4K60. It doesn't mean games CPU limited will suddenly run 60fps and 4K as well.

I will await the Sony PS5/Whatever rumors and their response for fall 2018. I just don't feel the need to upgrade my launch PS4 yet.

It'll be fall 2019

Sony are waiting on 7nm, Zen and other technologies to mature before they can release a new console

Please no! Everything is blades was far. From current UI I am two buttons distance of creating parties, access my games, feed, messages, etc.

I'll probably be getting antsy for an upgrade by then so that works for me. But I don't think they will let Microsoft rule the roost unopposed for 2yrs.

So why Sony released PS4 Pro if thats the strategy they are following?

Because its a mid gen iteration using most of the parts from the OG PS4 outside of the GPU, and it shows in how the GPU is bottlenecked.

We've known that for a while, it was a hold over to 'future proof' the PS4 brand somewhat compared to PC hardware, although it seems to not be working as smoothly as they wanted.

Sony dont care about MS's power advantage and that stands to reason IMO. Otherwise they would not have released this year and revealed the thing's existence before Scorpio was announced at E3. They are blowing XB1 out globally and more power isnt going to change that, even if Scorpio were to best case scenario get MS winning more NPD months out of the year.

I think they feel like their game content will keep their sales going until what they consider 'next gen'.

What i don't understand is if they felt that way, they didn't even need to release Pro as they did either, investing in the new GPU or overclocking those components. Just releasing a 4K output HDR 4KBR supported PS4 Slim with optical out and calling it "PS4 Pro" would have been enough

I'd be happy with a disk driveless digital only version of scorpio, i think the amount of sales(not that long after games release i add,bf1 tf2 just recently) we've seen on X1 make this option apeal to me.

I doubt a diskless version would happen but it would be nice to have the option.

No thanks. I'll take a console that uses physical media any day over digital only.

Also, UHD Blu-ray. I had to buy an XB1S since Sony left that out of the PS4 Pro.

There are disc only games, esp. BC. No way will it be digital only. Especially since UHD is important.

Ben Heck thinks it's just because stuff got cheaper and this upgrade keeps the price the same.

A LOT of parts are the same with the Slim etc. It probably costs them the same to manufacture as the og PS4 used to.

my favorite part of the Scorpio stuff is it reminded me of mrxmedia. Took me to his twitter page, where I found out he's still asking Microsoft to unlock the 2nd hidden GPU in the XB1 before they release Scorpio. Brilliant.

random thought, but I figure once Scorpio launches, there won't be a new set of games on shelves - it'll just be a digital update to make a game the "Scorpio" version.

but does the "pro" have a different game image? I wonder if the Scorpio version will have a different banner.

No it doesn't, nor will the Scorpio. Most you get is a different image for VR games, maybe. I imagine they'll also use a different banner image to denote Scorpio exclusives, whether its VR or a 'core' title.

Phil responded to fan talking about AMD Ryzen? (Tweet)

I still don't really understand what Phil is saying here?

Edit: I guess he's talking about how developers have been working on new games with Scorpio hardware for a while now giving them the opportunity to optimise their games fully for when the Scorpio releases?

I can't wrap my mind around that tweet, I assume he's had a few beers.

For some reason I thought that dude meant that shitty pirate rpg. Ha ha

While I have been of the belief that MS will likely go the Sony route, and have Scorpio run in a "base XB1/XB1S" mode for non-patched games due to the problems that can occur with certain games all of a sudden having a ton of more power available to them. I thought of something that could definitely attract enthusiasts while maintaining compatibility with the old games.

Of course, by default, have it be that way, but also have an option hidden away in the system menu that gets rid of that restriction. Basically an "at your own risk" type deal that lets games access that extra power. Some games may break, some may not run properly, but some may do just fine as well, and I think it may be an attractive enough feature to convince some enthusiasts who were otherwise on the fence, to buy the system.
