Great then they need to do better. That's the problem with this podcast you can't tell people misunderstand when you shit the messaging. But it feels like it's never Phil's fault. The guy thrashed Xbox first parties when he was the head of them but it wasn't his fault, the Xbox one?No it was Don Mattrick alone (even though I hate Don Mattrick).Mistakes are always because of others.Timed exclusives he's not a fan and will stop them but continues. It is somehow never his fault.
When Sony got hacked the chief of sony Howard stringer apologized publicly yes they fucked up but at least took the L and made PSN way better.
They didn't blame the hackers.

And bcus of tht ppl kept buying ps3's. The transparency and accountability is welcoming. Your post is spot on. Meanwhile competitors have a history of misleading, of ambiguity amongst other things.

Funnily enough, MS could distinguish themselves from Sony if they actually committed to 60fps across the board, and pushed their studios in that direction.

I don't think Sony will. They will stick to 30fps, third person games that look beautiful but play slowly.

Look at how Nintendo explained the next Metroid delay.

I hope your blood pressure is ok. What about your sugar levels?

Xbox has made a bunch of mistakes every generation.

Original Xbox: teaming up with nVidia, unreliable disc drive
X360: Hardware failures, lack of exclusives later in the gen, crappy D-pad on the controller, no blu-ray making you swap discs, proprietary headset connector, and I'm probably forgetting things.
Xbox One: Kinect, always online requirement

Hopefully this time, they do better.

I wouldn't say that Nintendo is misleading they've been bad (joycon drift and their network) but they've been upfront.Like "Hey this is what you get it may not be enough for you but it is what it is".
Microsoft has been touting the power of the cloud the "you realize that you will see everything as 1080p"and their awesome logo true 4K that including dynamic res upscale and temporal injection, their kinect demos, Hololens and it's magical expanded FOV.
They sell dreams that stay at this state.
Then Phil it is time to act.

But their backward compatibility and accessibility for handicapped people need to lauded though.

Everything Xbox has shown? 😂😂Are you serious? At least Sony showed real game play of a game (which looked graphically good BTW) and then the demo presentation of UE5 actually running on a PS5. Microsoft showed Hellblade 2 cutscene that isn't gameplay and a bunch of other mediocre third party shit. Stop the bs bro Sony is winning in that category as well and June will just be hell fire. I'll take actual gameplay over a cutscene or some live action bs anytime. Nothing Xbox has actually shown looks better than God fall. Btw games like tlou 2 and GoT looks better than anything shown or not shown for nextbox. One thing is for sure Sony will win in the games department they have tons of history and data in tht regard 😊

You are not fooling us 👀try again.
Trolls gone troll, I guess...,

What games have Sony shown running on PS5? Godfall is the only real confirmed PS5 game we've actually seen and it looks like a polished current gen game.

Be realistic. Any game set to launch with these consoles or within the launch window were developed years ago on inferior hardware. At best, they'll be 4k 60 fps One X/Pro games. Manage your expectations. Your imagination is out of control and you'll be severely let down. Microsoft and Sony essentially screwed themselves by releasing mid gen refreshes and gamers are going to get diminishing returns for a couple of years.

My expectations are basically Xbox One X games with higher resolution, framerates and much, much faster loading times. I'm coming from a launch Xbox One so it's all gravy for me.

Yeah wasnt really including Nintendo in this discussion. They are pretty straight forward. I agree.

Don't worry about me I do have a tendancy of hyperactivity but don't get me wrong I'm still totally calm and you probably can tell since my posts use history, facts and logic it is not a fanboy complaining about anything the other side could do.

It's just tiring seeing Phil being praised everywhere about what he says but when you look his acts the story is really different. And to add that I'm against the cult of personality.

Wow. You saved me the time of finding that video. That is one of my examples that I was thinking of posting. I cannot tell a difference.

I don't blame you. Everyone perceives motion differently (there is probably some science behind this, but I'd rather not research).

I agree you Sony hasn't shown shit either but they are not telling their consumer that they are misunderstood...
That's the difference, MS is playing the victim because internet is meaning and people are too dumb to understand when they should've said simple things like "We over promised and underdelivered we understand that apologise and will do better".
Instead blame the consumer.

Ppl can revise history but I wasnt let down with ps4 or its "launch window" games. Idk about you but Infamous, Shadowfall and Driveclub may have not been the best games but thy all looked next Gen to me. Shit Infamous still looks better than most games releasing from the competitors and it was open world with crazy neon effects.

I feel like they already showed a huge push to 60fps last gen, with Halo moving to 60 FPS, and gears moving to 60 on XOX. Even Forza Horizon had a 60 FPS mode on the XOX

Thanks! Phil need to drop the PR down instead of being the yesman of Xbox and play the nice guy on Twitter.
Even if it sound bad at first he will look more honest and that can go a long way for consumers.

I hope this is true, but it's hard to believe when they told us they are only putting out enhanced last-gen games for at least 12 months after the system comes out. Maybe 3rd parties will pick up the slack for them.

I imagine year 2 and year 3 XSX games that are actually made for XSX could be spicy.

Yeah basically saying people are dumb and misunderstood Xbox and that you can't feel next gen gameplay on a video....
Well maybe at least try to show it.I don't care about that ps5 unreal 5 demo you talk about sony fanboys when people just want to see games with gameplay. You see fanboy when there isn't.Phil is shitting on people disapointed by Xbox. They fucked up hyping gameplay when there wasn't, they fucked up hyping next gen when they showed CGI and what they expect CGI to be on an upcoming console.

Sony hasn't fucked up yet simply because they haven't really started (well except for that road to ps5 it should have been private to devs not public).

But they don't dare telling people they don't understand and can't show how their game feel because they haven't shown shit just like Xbox.If you fuck up man up change things don't blame the consumer.

Edit: Also Phil thinks consumer are stupid because sony fanboys were happy about Unreal 5.... Think about your point take a deep breath and think.
He did not. He said it was difficult to show the difference in video form because they can't control the experience. The launch/launch window games for these machines will be Pro/One X games at 4k 60 fps. That's the reality and that's not going to wow the hard core. What's going to wow the hardcore is how the experience feels while playing it. You can't demonstrate that on screen. You can't do kiosks either during the pandemic.

MS and Sony shot themselves in the foot with the Pro and the One X. There won't be a generational gap visually on day one. So they will need to show things that demonstrate why people should upgrade. I'm not being a total nut-hanger on this. MS can do a better job of showing us why the Velocity Architecture is important and other features that are still shrouded in mystery.

I think that is what they will do actually for their 1st party games. MS has been hyping 60 FPS for months. Also they have been pushing better frame rates with some of their games this gen as well.

MS has apologized for the Inside Xbox event though, mainly in mis-setting expectations and social media messaging. It's not like they constantly duck and dodge responsibility in admitting if they've messed up in terms of an event.

Right this moment you've got Sony and Naughty Dog DMCA'ing smaller Youtube channels over even posting memes related to TLOU II (that don't even use material from the game, even), and they don't seem to be owing up to the fact they're abusing their power on the YT platform in that regard.

So this isn't really a thing about one company willing to admit they've messed up and the other never does when we have examples in the past and current where all of these companies have messed up and failed to acknowledge it. But this thing with Spencer and the May 7th event isn't one of them; even before he said anything regarding difficulty in presenting next-gen gameplay, a TON of us were saying that immediately after the show, since places like YT, Mixer and especially Twitch compress the hell out of the streams and limit the bandwidth necessary for 4K adequately.

Spencer probably could've alluded to the idea of knowing them streaming the event was partially the problem, and double-down on skipping that and going with direct video uploads would work much better. Certainly did for Epic ;)

30 with good motion blur is fine as long as the graphics are worth it. Framerate is not everything. They could at least show us awesome graphics if they cannot show high fps

For competitive fast-action games like FPS and fighters, framerate literally makes or breaks the experience.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has acknowledged that it's been challenging to demonstrate the true leap that the Xbox Series X will provide over the Xbox One. In Reggie's new podcast, Spencer said one of the most defining characteristics of next-gen games is how they "feel" with faster and more stable frame rates.

It's not possible to demonstrate this with videos, Spencer said. And with physical events canceled or postponed due to COVID-19, Microsoft is facing a new dilemma in trying to communicate the appeal of faster frame rates. This is a new challenge, Spencer said, because for previous console transitions throughout history, the power of new systems was immediately apparent with better graphics.

"One of the things I've talked about publicly ... but it's hard to come across, is the way it feels to play games on a box where frame rates are higher, frame rates are more stable," Spencer said. "The fluidity of it, showing that in video form, is just impossible. How do you show how something feels?"

He added: "We're getting to the point where the immersion feel that you get through fluidity and other things is now up to par with the visual capabilities that we have. How do you share that with people in this kind of world?"

Spencer said he is optimistic about being able to put the Xbox Series X in front of consumers at some point in the future before launch to help them understand the appeal of the new system. But it's unlikely to happen soon due to government restrictions around social-distancing.

"The feel relative to previous console generations will be something people remark positively about," Spencer said.

The Xbox Series X is technically capable of delivering frame rates of up to 120 FPS, but developers will ultimately get to decide what works best in terms of the balance between visuals and frame rate.

Also in the interview, Spencer reiterated that he expects the Xbox Series X launch to go forward as planned this holiday. He said his teams are doing an "amazing job" during a challenging environment.

"We had another hardware review. We did that this week. Our supply chain, we feel good about the hardware side. It feels like we'll be able to get enough units. We're pretty committed to a worldwide launch which regretfully we didn't do with Xbox One," Spencer said.

The software for the Xbox Series X is also "making good progress," Spencer said. He added that game development is also moving along, but with some interruption.

"Games are making good progress. The collaborative nature of game development and the scale of game development today," Spencer said. "Any of the functions that require physical collaboration--things like motion capture, things like symphonic capture--those kinds of things, some of that is put on hold. On the games side, things that are pre content-complete might be impacted more than things that are post content-complete."

The COVID-19 crisis has led to changes in Microsoft's policies. For example, Spencer pointed out that third-party developers are now allowed to take their Xbox Series X development kits home--this would not have been allowed under previous circumstances.

Finally, Spencer also spoke about the rebuilding process within the Xbox team. The Xbox One launch in 2013 was marred by controversial policies and a $100 higher price point than the rival PS4. This contributed to Microsoft coming up short against Sony in the previous console generation. Spencer took over as Head of Xbox in 2015, and things seem to be on a better path for the Series X launch this year.

"The team had lost trust in the leadership ... the leadership capability and the commitment of the company to this category and our decision-making," Spencer recalled. "Rebuilding that inside the company was important and it takes time."

I don’t believe in any single word..

HZD or DirveClub show that 30fps aint bad at all. The uploader was too lazy to re-benchmark the same level at 30fps, because he prolly didnt know how to limit the framerate, hence he used the 60fps footage and made a 29.976fps copy of it.

Depending the game
30fps NGEN visuals >>>> 60fps last gen visuals (hence why dirt5 trailer looked "old gen but 120fps")

I agree about mid gen refresh not a fan of them and sometimes feel like they aren't used to their potential and even worse it is often detrimental to the base version.
But do you honestly think that showing gameplay would not be a step in the right direction ?
Phil is playing the victim game so nothing is his fault yet again. It's hard having the sensation of playing a game when watching a video ? Well bouhou phil.It wasn't a problem until now is that his excuse about no gameplay on a "gameplay reveal" since you guys can't feel the game we won't show anything.

No they fucked up .When I watched the DMCV gameplay I know it felt right to play on a video.
So showing a game is not the same as playing it what a discovery phil ... let us clap for this breakthrough.
But showing gameplay would show way more than CGI.
You are the head your words have meaning whether they are good or bad but at least stand up to them.
Act like the chief of Xbox you are instead of a spineless salesman.
People weren't ready for our vision on Xbox one, we always have the best lineup in history each and every year. You're not selling a vacuum cleaner we are talking about an art form with a technical side and a artistical one too.
He just feel like this super friendly guy always agreeing with you that want to sell the new dyson.
Hey that vacuum cleaner didn't suck up dirt when you showed it ? ....Well it was the fault of the carpet it wasn't good dirt the electric appliance wasn't enough powerful ....

No, you fucked up your demonstration, go home, repeat until it works then prove us wrong.
We are not the problem nor a one minded beehive but if most people were disapointed in what you did maybe that's on you.Take responsibility instead of telling people they didn't get you.
If I explain something and nobody understand me then I haven't explained I just did an empty monologue.

There was no mid-gen hardware refresh prior to the Xbox One and PS4 so the launch games we saw were a true generational leap. Ryse: Son of Rome and Infamous/Kill Zone represented the best graphics we saw in a generation.

However, there will be NO PS5 games that represent a generational leap over Ghosts of Tsushima other than similar graphics at 4k60.

Your feelings are about to be hurt.

If MS is going to be pushing 60fps for first party I think you can write of RT as being a huge feature in their games, I'm sure they'll work it in a bit but people talking about that Minecraft demo as if it's representative of what you'll be getting with XSX as a whole will be disappointed.

Wow. You saved me the time of finding that video. That is one of my examples that I was thinking of posting. I cannot tell a difference.
I really don't know if I could tell a difference without being labeled. I think I could very very slightly but I don't know if those 60fps labels make me think I do notice

Can't wait for the July event when Microsoft's first party will tear shit up. You can hype a demo all you want but we still have to see actual games from both companies first party studios.

That really surprises me. It's night and day for me. Maybe if you're used to playing at 30 fps you won't notice a difference, but if you're used to 60 fps, 30 fps looks choppy.

Oh I did not want to say sony never fucked up of course they did and will do.But will they whine and blame others on their mistakes? Not really they don't want TLOU2 spoiled they strike and assumed at least they're not accusing anyone 'but hey it's the fault of the streamer we're the victims blablabla..." no they act it may not be the best solution and is quite shitty I agree.
But they are upfront about it.
And you say it is difficult to show next gen gameplay (even though I believe it doesn't exist next gen gameplay) But is it possible to at least show gameplay in a gameplay reveal?
They haven't apologized to my knowledge wasn't there just one quote from an ex Xbox senior employee saying never over promise and underdeliver?
Not an apology and not even by an actual MS employee.
Of course everyone in this industry fuck up sometimes but man do MS heads need to be taught about humility.
For all the hatred I have against Don Mattrick at least he stood by his choices(but man they were bad).

I agree I prefer 60 FPS, and prefer fast action shooters and fighters of most genres ..... give me 1440 or so upscaled and spend the rest on assets and affects, temporal to 4k is ideal, and no need for > 60 FPS.

Hopefully devs spend their resources wisely.

I ignored the fighting stuff :messenger_beaming:

He's basically saying you'll be playing mostly at 60 FPS.
I do wonder whether most games will be 4k 60 FPS, or you'll have a choice between 2.5K (1440P) and high FPS or 4K and 30 FPS.
Do most TVs support anything over 60 these days anyway?

Also, for people who have played at higher FPS than 60, how does it compare?
For example, does the feel of the game feel as much of an improvement going from 60->120/144 as it does for 30->60, or is the benefit relatively hard to detect (there are people who still can't feel the difference between 30 and 60, which worries me).

It's great against blur effect and for following a target but I feel like we need a way to test the pixel per movement of TV which can vary quite a lot and damper a bit the benefits of 60 fps games.

It is unbelievable to me that so many people would choose currentgen looking games at 120 fps instead of what we have seen in the UE5 demo. I just can't...

I would prefer 60 FPS and toned down graphics a little, playing an action game or shooter on a high difficulty is more difficult at 30 FPS to get timing correct and reactions are too slow at 30 for any fast paced game.

Most COD players prefer 60 fps for sure, I am one.

However, high quality visuals at 60 FPS is still a challenge as you have half the frame time.

But I think any more frame rate is a waste on console, we are not using gaming mice anyway.

I'll take performance over resolution any day. Gameplay > resolution. And regardless they will only look better the more devs familiarize themselves with the consoles.
