XSEED's 2013 Lineup

I'm very excited about Celceta, but not really anything else. I wasn't expecting any Trails news in this announcement, but I was hoping for at least another Wizardry game.

I hope these games do well for them, but it doesn't look like I'll be buying much from XSEED this year. (Unless they have more games to announce later.) :/

Rune Factory 4 going to XSEED probably will force Natsume to pick up Medarot 7 unless they just want to publish Harvest Moon games for the next couple of years. There's not exactly a wave of new Reel Fishing, or Lufia games for them either.

Natsume is already working on two games along with eshop downloads so I think they are just really busy.

Either you are kidding or you are overestimating YS popularity in US.

People who bought YS on PC are either 1) already fan of YS or 2) purchased game and not a hardcore fan to buy hardware just for one game.

I will say vita version will sell a lot better than PSP version due to zero piracy but it is not because of PC people who bought YS.

I feel like Ys is relatively more well known now since the PC releases and Ys Celceta will get around through word of mouth better than Ys Seven did. I never said the game was popular in the US.

What is the difference between Ys I & II Chronicles and Ys I & II Chronicles+?
One's a PSP game and Japanese PC game, the other's a US PC game that crosses over the additions of Chronicles with Ys I & II Complete, which ran nicer as a PC game than Ys I & II Chronicles. It's also likely why this took so long, versus coming out something like the month after Origin.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Is Ys Celceta's platinum hard to obtain? I heard it was very difficult but I don't know the details.

Eventually, there's two versions of Ys I & II: Complete, the original PC version which had a wider view area and generally more options, and Chronicles which is the PSP port which throws in multiple soundtracks and art styles. Chronicles+ is a mash up, presenting the best bits from both.

I've made some comparison shots for Ys I & II Chronicles+ so that you guys can see how this port looks and the care I've taken working on it. The game has two display modes: "Complete" (4:3) and "Chronicles" (roughly the same as the PSP version). I took a bunch of shots in different display modes. You can also see how we've expanded the Chronicles art compared to PSP in the Ys II shots. I hope this clears up some confusion!

Ys Chronicles+ (HUD, etc. shot)
1x Size: Complete Mode | Chronicles Mode
2x Size: Complete Mode Filtered/Unfiltered | Chronicles Mode Filtered/Unfiltered

You expect a trophy list for an Ys game to be a walk in the park?

Trophies for all items, explore every part of the map, all quests, complete monster compendium, get all materials, win boss rush without retrying, open all chests, defeat 2000 enemies, etc. I think jonnyram got the platinum. I can't remember.

I mean, if you want, I'll give you the trophy list. I don't know if you'd be happy with what you have to do.

Probably, most JRPG plats have insanely stupid things to do that only sadists and perfectionists go after. Some are push overs but most have downright unfair things like "JUMP 10,000 TIMES! WOOO!!"

Wait a second, were the new Chronicles assets made at a bigger size than the PSP could actually display? That's actually kind of interesting, I wonder if they made them as if they were for Eternal/Complete, then threw them on PSP the same way they did the rest of the game.

Nah, that's not it. I reworked all of the Chronicles assets from their original PSDs for Complete display size myself.
They are absolutely only the size you see them on PSP otherwise.

We've gotten better. I think you'll enjoy the achievements in Chronicles+.

As for Celceta, those trophies were created by Falcom, not by us. So they might also be more to your liking. ;)

Ys Origins were better than Felghana in the completion achievements stacked.

But there was still an achievement tied to an unlockable that required you to beat the game fifteen times (knocked down to nine after a patch if you plan right).

I have a question for the XSeed crew. As someone who was introduced to the Ys series with the Steam releases and loved the Oath in Felghana, how different is the gameplay in Chronicles+?

I'm loving the old school aesthetic but am concerned about the buttonless "bump" combat. So does touching the enemy enacts a die roll that potentially hurts one of us? Very intrigued but concerned that the gameplay will be "run into an enemy and hope he dies".

Is there a possibility of a demo?

It depends on how you run into the enemy. If you run into them head on, you will take a lot of damage yourself. You have to attack them from the sides (or off center) or from the back to avoid taking damage yourself. It's pretty fun once you get the hang of it.

It's not based on a dice roll, you have to hit enemies at the right angle.

You need to run into the enemy at an angle or hit them a bit off to the side. If you bump them straight on you'll get hurt, but not if you hit them just right. Chronicles+ has a small picture that pops up early on to basically explain this, too.

Edit: Man, beaten pretty badly. Oh well. But yeah, that's how it works.

Nah, it's not very difficult at all. Two playthroughs required and a few of them can be a little bit fiddly (like getting 99.7% map completion and not being able to find the last little bit) but mostly they're just standard stuff like quest completion (there are very few missable quests and no hidden ones), beating the game on nightmare (easy if you do it on NG+) etc. And boss rush without dying is a joke if you do it on easy difficulty.

Took me 65 hours but I played on nightmare with no items both times (so died a lot) and seem to end up with slow playtimes compared to the average person anyway. Wouldn't be surprised if plenty of people did it in less than 40.

My wallet will be opening for for Celceta and Chronicles+. Celceta's my second favourite Ys game and Chronicles+ seems to pretty much be the definitive version. Can't say no considering I still haven't finished Ys II.

There was still more to the artwork than they showed on PSP though like all those apples, which is really nice to be able to see now. Thanks for going the extra mile!
Xseed should publish Inazuma... damnit. SOMEONE SHOULD!
Nintendo! I actually half expect this if the compilation's a fresh chance to bring it to NA.

Excellent news about the Chronicles port. I was crossing my fingers that you guys would take steps to fix some of the problems that version has. I'll definitely be picking it up.

As for Celceta, it's great to know that you guys dropped the Foliage Ocean bit. I absolutely loved the JP version, so I'll be snatching a US copy as soon as it releases.

I agree! I thought Sea of Trees could have been an okay replacement, but the title they went with just sounds more natural all around.
If they were to go with an accurate name "Forest of Celceta" would've probably been best, somewhat bland looking I suppose but doesn't come off as overblown as "Foliage Ocean of Celceta."

Yep. And we listened to feedback on that -- the achievements in Ys I & II Chronicles+ can all theoretically be obtained with only one playthrough... if you know the games like the back of your hand, anyway. ;)

BTW that pre-order of Chronicles+ is a triple dip. <3 u Xseed.
It's my fifth or sixth dip.

TuboGrafx-16 CD (OG Ys fan represent).
PC Complete Version.
PlayStation 2 Eternal Story Version.
Sega Saturn (via the Falcom Collection Discs).
TurboGrafx-16 (Virtual Console).
PSP Chronicles Version Retail.
PSP Chronicles Version Digital (review code, so technically didn't buy).
Steam Chronicles+.

Oops, that's eight dips. Unless I forgot one.

DS? Assuming you didn't just deliberately avoid it for understandable reasons (poor Atlus).

This would be the... third time, I think. VC TGCD, PSP, and now PC.

Yeah, says it can't find the executable. I guess we'll know when it actually downloads.
