It's what many of us were warning about: exclusives are necessary to cement your messaging.

Would you have believed the Switch could handle big open-world titles without BotW?
Would you have believed the PS4 was next-gen without Shadowfall?

It's the exact same problem they had with X1X: "here's the world's most powerful console! It plays Super Lucky's Tale"

Bear in mind Xbox games for the next two years, so, everything you've seen today, will be designed in a way that they can be configured to also run on base Xbox Ones.

Also bear in mind that Knack isn't TLOU2.
Let me try to make a list of what happened this gen on xbox:
  • wait until Phil fixes it
  • wait until DX12
  • wait for cloud gaming
  • wait until you see Halo 5
  • wait for scalebound
  • wait until you see Gears 5
  • wait until next-gen
Can you see a trend, and why people are really disappointed?Wait two more years. All this while Sony is already showcasing their next-gen goods, they have a track record of delivering the games on their systems that MS doesn't (at least not in a constant manner).

Add the MS execs building up hype for this event, they asked you to 'wait you'll see true next gen in July" after the next-gen indie show case back in May or something, and now they showed us the best they had.

They are still asking you to wait some more.

99% of GoT beauty is in art direction. And some small but difficult stuff, like almost instant loads/fast travel.
Arti direction is good, but this is not the answer here. Look at the vegetation in GoT, how much there is, how far it goes and how it interacts with the wind.

Instanced geometry. The wind is just a force field. Again. There were a lot of particles in force fields in SS. Nothing changed.

Yeah, pretty obvious what we saw wasn't finished. Sony fans tend to latch on to a single thing, like that grunts face before he gets hit with a melee. Exact same thing happened for the xbox 360 with "wall guy". In the end it didn't prove xbox 360 was underpowered, or couldn't achieve what was promised. It was just ammo for internet fanboys, like it is this time.

Some obvious things to consider. They are supporting 2 and 4 player split screen like the original halo (so everything needs to be scalable to keep the performance up). also its months from release and easily the biggest halo game ever made (bigger then the levels in the last two games combined)

Also them coming out after and saying ray tracing wouldn't ship for launch, just makes me think the rumor is true that the game was running late after covid and other studios are pitching in to get it back on track. I've worked on enough games that clearly display this feeling until everything starts coming together late in the game. Almost every game has that feeling of "OMG are we gonna be able to pull this off?" feeling when you look at everything that needs to happen.

I saw objects that should have been sitting on the ground floating, felt like it was lacking particles and effects in places. There were barely any FX on the enemy ships flying over (not to mention the motion was janky). Explosions that should have knocked enemies in different directions, didn't seem to happen. I watched the 4K stream and it looked a lot better, the gameplay was spot on, it just looked like it was lacking polish. Effects didn't light up the ground, there was noticeable pop in off in the distance, and camera clipping was happening on objects too close to the center of object.

The biggest mistake MS could make was to show it in a unpolished state. For some gamers like myself (since I've seen games in that state before) or even casuals they won't care, and will get excited. For hardcore system warriors, they gave them ammo to spread nonsense as proof phil spencer is lying or that the console is underpowered. Same shit different console.

It’s interesting how the head of the studio gets rolled out after the Halo gameplay proclaiming how Halo Infinite is so amazing and how it takes advantage of the massive XsX power. How do you lie so directly and blatantly? It’s clearly a One game first and foremost.

But if he ain’t lying, that’s even worse. But that can’t be the case.

Edit: it could be Lockheart 1080p quality unpressed to 4K

No. It's not underpowered. A 12TF hard number isn't underpowered. It's new hardware and games not been developed and optimised for at all yet. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Halo memes as much as the next guy but to say the XSX is underpowered is disingenuous and straw clutching.

I was debating someone on here months ago that it makes sense that Infinite is not going to challenge PS5 exclusive visuals as it was being developed with Xbox One as baseline, yet I was chased out of town (the guy above - Eastwood - was even predicting Infinite would look better than anything on next gen!!)

Sad thing is we have another 2 years of this shit, a 1.3tflop console with HDD holding back Series X first party. It's a crime.

First off, I'm a long time Xbox fan. So much so that I used to literally count down the weeks, days, minutes and seconds until the OG Xbox launched and I could buy one. Greatest console ever.

Microsoft have done a lot right this gen. The Elite controller is the greatest controller ever made, Game pass is one of the greatest ideas that gamers have ever had the pleasure to use and the X is a fantastic little box of magic. Forza looks life-like and i mean that without exaggeration. It is one of, if not the greatest looking game i have ever had the pleasure to see.

With that being said, I think the XSX is under-powered - as in, it doesn't or can't do what Microsoft are touting that it can do. Yes, I understand we haven't seen live gameplay yet, but from what we have seen, I am worried - in a gamer sense of the word. I want all companies to be at the top of their game, because we all win. I won't comment on the games, as it is entirely subjective as to what one prefers over another. One mans' COD is another mans' Sea of Thieves.

What i will say is from what we've seen, i don't see the 12 tflops being put to use. From what we've heard, which is statements counter-acting Sony's claims 'it eats monsters for breakfast' and 'consistently fastest console ever' I just don't get the vibe that Microsoft are confident with their console or messaging. All of their talking seems to be counter-acting what Sony have said and/or banging on about 4k/60fps, like that's important outside of console wars.

I find it hard to believe that a console with 10x~ the power of a PS4 and 3x power of the X, can produce such shoddy results so far. Never in my life of watching console launches (First one was the PSX) have I seen the lead platform in terms of power, deliver underwhelming trailers, gameplay and teasers.

If the XSX is genuinely powerful, then that's even worse, as it suggests that Microsoft has a complete lack of talent across the vast majority of their studios (Turn 10 are still one of the best devs in the industry). And no, I'm not 'waiting' any more. I've been told since fucking Kinect to 'wait for the games'.

I hope to God, for Microsofts' sake, that this console is considerably cheaper than the PS5

I wanted you to be great Microsoft. Why have you failed me again. #bringbackallard.

TL;DR: Old Microsoft fan cries in to his Duke because Microsoft are a shadow of their former selves.

$40/tflop, 12tflops/$480, price is reasonable enough?

I think Microsoft doesn't know how to extract the power of their own console. Who in their fucking minds thought it was good to present Halo as their flagship title when it looked like what we have seen? I won't expect much from launch titles in every generation when most of them are always just bland and forgettable. Give 2 to 3 years into the 9th gen and we will have amazing games from both platforms (it's how things generally work).

The more I see, the more it seems as if MS just wanted to double the TF from XB1X to 12TF and be done, so went wide and slow chucked in latest RDNA2 stuff from AMD, went on 7nm RDNA1 node for costs with RDNA2 logic so they could afford 52 CU and be done. (Hence the 1.825 Ghz GPU clock with is more GPU RDNA1 level)

Even having 2 speed pools of RAM is questionable and probably a suit decision and they leave the engineers to pick up the pieces..

All the SFS, velocity and all the PR is MS working furiously to catch up on the next gen IO narrative, but we see Sate decay loading in 12 seconds and pop in all over on Halo infinite.

That Halo pop in and poor streaming has nothing to do with 343, thats hardware IO from SSD. I bet velcocity architecture is not ready yet.

Show dont talk.

I’d argue pc’s will be a detriment even after One is dropped. Pc ain’t getting console caliber ssd’s anytime soon. Even when available, the market will be too fragmented to usher it in as a baseline for gaming.

Pretty shitty for Sony too in relation to 3rd party.

Challenge a PS5 or even an XSX exclusive for that matter is pushing it, but as underwhelming as the demo looked on the stream, I’ll reserve judgement after seeing it running on my 4K display at 60fps and HDR, I have a feeling it’s going to be the same scenario as Forza 5 which was a similar laughing stock for Xbone at the time, but then my on the fence friends saw me playing it on my 65” display at 1080p/60 and we’re like bruh, that actually looks pretty damn good, but but Gaf told me about the 2D crowds and baked lighting

Well the whole point of SFS and blending in late textures from SSD with velcoity architecture is there was a back up
plan. So I thought great for 3rd party even one will stream next gen...

However, after seeing those textures stream and ugly pop in in on Halo infinite made me throw up, so maybe only ps5 will do this. I am not so sure anymore.

Yeh I agree, it pisses me off that all gamers will potentially be affected (3rd party titles) so I can quite easily see myself living off PS5 exclusives and PC strategy games (most are not on consoles) the majority of the new gen.

lol. I love how people assume you can just run 12TF games with demanding effects on 4TF hardware "with just lower resolution"

If that is the case then why no Xbox One X or PS4 Pro game ever looked better than their slower brothers and why only resolution/framerate or marginal effects was only difference ?

Xbox One set default baseline power of current generation and this is how all games looked like aside from PS4 exclusives.

But they showed exclusives and none look better than PS5 exclusives. Which only confirms what i said. They used mostly CGI for most of their games instead of showing actual graphics which speaks volumes about "next gen"

Multiplats WILL run better at SEX that is for sure. But we are talking here about technology like raytracing. geometry detail, extra npcs, etc. SEX will just run Lockhart games in higher resolution or higher framerate with small extra effects. PS5 will do the same, it will run lockhart games with extra small effect, higher res and framerate.
What exclusives did Sony showed that couldn’t be done on current gen barring the ssd stuff with Rachet? Which game did they show that looked technically more impressive then a game built for series x exclusively of which we haven’t seen gameplay from none except forza in engine stuff.

I remember launch games like crash bandicoot and tomb raider on psx, Halo on xbox and condemned on 360 all amazing games that set the stall of what was yet to come 🤷‍♂️
You’re telling me halo on Xbox looked as good as halo 2 or chaos theory ? Or that condemned looked like gears or gears 3 or halo 4 like come on dude that’s ridiculous.

Once abundant physics return after a whole gen absence, that will be enough of a differentiator. At the end of the day, world simulation combined with world fidelity is what the gen should usher in. I mean, there are only so many ways to drive a car in a car game, or shoot terrorists in an FPS.

Nah... This is not even a One game. We have seen what that console is capable of with RDR2.

It is surreal how Halo Infinite looked. I actually thought we were looking at Xbox One S gameplay that will transition into XSX gameplay to showcase that generation difference.

I actually don't know what insiders saw because this is definitely not what they were describing. They were saying this game looked next-gen and was to set the standard for visuals. How does Halo 5's models look better than this? How does Halo 5's post-processing look better than this? It truly seems that this game's development was rebooted in 2019. All the rumors of development hell seemed to be true all along.

The engine seems capable (2018 footage), but it seems to me that the game just needs way more time to look like that.

I also expected a bit more of a less-traditional open-world experience. I expected no maps, no upgrades (in traditional sense), etc. It just doesn't seem like Halo Infinite brings anything new to the table, and I'm beginning to be bored by the traditional open-world experience that Far Cry 3 pioneered. I believe this game needs to be given more time and a bit redesigned to set itself apart.

None of these consoles have shown any game that is realizing their full potential not even close so all this console war non sense taking place is stupid because there are going to be games in a few years from Sony and Microsoft that will have having people losing their shit and saying how great they look and it be fun to look back at things like this. We as gamers have no patience and we are always quick to have a fit over minuscule things.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't impressed. And in fact, since I made that post, I realised that they haven't guaranteed that Forza, State of Decay 3, Everwild and Avowed are going to be ready in the next two years.

The point still stands that what you see at launch isn't going to compare to what you get at the end of the generation. But my first point about everything we saw being designed for all platforms, upon taking a closer look, isn't necessarily true at all.

Someone is going to have to correct me on this, but isn't the new Halo coming out on Xbox One as well? If so, blame the terrible Jaguar CPU cores for that "empty" feeling. Who knows, maybe you'll see more environments that don't seem as bland to you? I dunno. This will look so much better once ray-tracing is applied, and it will still run as smooth as butter.
Hopefully all the ray tracing will add more polygons to that brutes head.

No, that would be insane. When new consoles launch, they always WOW us, even though we know it can only get better. OG Halo was amazing, Halo 2 was better. OG Gears was mind blowing, but 3, graphically at least, was a league ahead.

The showing of Halo did not wow, did not arouse an interest in terms of "Holy shit, if that's what they can do now, what can they do when they really get to grips with it?!" Which is bad enough on it's own, but coming off of the back of Xbone, which also had a lackluster launch - even though Ryse did look fantastic - combined with the XSX as being touted as the most powerful console ever, makes me think what da fuq is going on?

The best game of the show was the mini fortnite game, it looked very artistically advanced. I mean, the best in show was Avowed because obsidian with magic is just boner-inducing.
🤦‍♂️ Dafuq did I just read?
