Master Yonashiro Weapons Training 与那城の修行

The first master you will encounter is Master Yonashiro in chapter 4.

Master Yonashiro is a weapons expert and will teach Kazuma Kiryu the arts of the Nunchaku, Tonfa and my personal favorite, Kali Sticks.

By completing all three of Yonashiro’s weapons training, Kiryu will receive a certificate which will allow him to purchase Nunchaku, Tonfa and Kali Sticks at Kamiyama’s Weapons Shop.

Incidentally, if Kiryu acquires various weapons crafting materials and weapons crafting dossier, he can forge his own unique weapons.

Words to Know:

Nunchaku/Nunchucks (ヌンチャク) : A traditional Okinawan martial arts weapon consisting of two sticks connected at one end by a short chain or rope. The two sections of the weapon are commonly made out of wood, while the link is a cord or a metal chain.

Fun Fact: The nunchaku was popularized by actor and martial artist, Bruce Lee in the film, “Enter the Dragon”

Tonfa (トンファー) : A melee weapon best known for its role in the armed component of Okinawan martial arts. It consists of a stick with a perpendicular handle attached a third of the way down the length of the stick, and is about 15–20 inches (380–510 mm) long. It was traditionally made from red or white oak and wielded in pairs.

Kali Sticks (カリスティック) : Kali Sticks is a martial art of the Philippines. The jungle environment on those islands has naturally led to the development of fighting techniques which utilise sticks and/or long knives.

One year later in March 2009

Bewildered by Saki’s sketch of the late Shintaro Kazama, Kiryu receives a distressing phone call from Osamu Kashiwagi (Second patriarch of the Kazama Family) that Daigo Dojima (Sixth Chairman of the Tojo Clan) was shot.

To make matters worse, Daigo was shot by a gunman who allegedly was the spitting image of Shintaro Kazama. The Morning Glory Orphanage land deed is stolen.

Kiryu decides to return to Kamurocho to uncover the truth behind his foster father, Shintaro Kazama, claim the land deed and ameliorate the current situation of the Tojo Clan.

Before Kiryu leaves for Tokyo, Izumi and Mikio try to tame and befriend a stray Akita puppy.

To be continued…

Words to Know:

“Ojiki” / “叔父貴” : “Uncle” (younger/older than one’s parent). Mikio refers to Kiryu as “Kiryu-Ojiki” or “Boss” if you played the Western release of Yakuza 3.

“Niichan”/兄ちゃん: An affectionate way of saying “big brother” Izumi refers to Mikio as, “Mikio-Niichan” or “Uncle Mikio” in the Western release of Yakuza 3.

PRO-TIP: Make sure you select the top options (Dog food from the M Store and Rubber ball borrowed from Koji) when Izumi asks, "Uncle Kaz, what do dogs like?"
