I'm looking to buy this game, but whenever I look I only find this bloody "Steelbook Edition" that I actively don't want.
What's wrong with this game's release in Europe?!

The Steelbook seems pretty common. I got it myself when I ordered it. Maybe they don't offer the regular version in Europe? It'd be weird but a possibility.

Yep steelbook edition is the only one offered in my country and I'm from Europe. I don't see why anyone would dislike steelbooks, it's not like adding it has bumped the price of the game in this case.

is there a way to unlock the "Complete the game on legend mode" trophy without replaying the whole game again ?

Yeah, steelbook was the only option here in .fi (from the retailer I bought the game from), but I don't see what's the issue. Was still cheaper than a digital copy, even with shipping.

Well... It's not always about money.
It would look supper ugly on my shelf of standard editions. And I feel super annoyed that I'm not given the option to get a standard one.

I'll be skipping this one until they re-release it, or I get in the mood to do some shopping from the US.

I'm currently in chapter 5 and got to the side story related to take pictures of models. I was surprised at the balls the devs showed while implementing that mode into the game.

I really appreciate them sticking to their vision regardless of the current political climate and I'm surprised there is not more outrage at it.

The more I play it the more I'm a bit disappointed at the combat. It is very dynamic and all but doesn't feel that varied.

komaki battle after learning the 4 or 5 heat movements.

Is there any trick to the super heat mode? I don't seem to be able to trigger it when I want to.

Another thing,
did they ever explain how Majima went crazy? I was expecting the girl to die and that to push Majima over the edge but he always seem so composed...

finished the main story

why do people say Yakuza 2 is the best after 0 ?? some even say it's better than 0, to me it's by far the worst in the series, Sayama pretty much ruined the entire story, worst character in the entire series, after i finished the game i immediately went to Youtube and searched
for "Yakuza Sayama death scene" i haven't played Yakuza 3 and i don't remember seeing her in Yakuza 4 so i figured she died in 3 which is what i hoped for, but no, they just forgot about her after Yakuza 2 which is a great decision

outside of Ryuji, the entire cast (outside the heroes) is forgetable, even the boss fights are terrible and forgetable, the story is boring and it's all thanks to Sayama

and there is barely any plot twists, most of them are pretty obvious except for THAT one, Yakuza 0 had lots and lots of amazing plot twists that kept you on the edge of your seat

i was pretty disappointed when i found out that Majima's chapters are not part of the main story and are side content you access them from the main menu, i remember asking here on GAF if Majima's story is short or not, and someone told me that it's like Yakuza 0, every 2 chapters you switch characters, why would people do this ? what are you gaining from lying ?

i played 5 mainline Yakuza games and this is how i'd rank them best to worst

Yakuza 0 > Yakuza 4 > Yakuza 6 > Yakuza 1 > Yakuza 2

I still haven't had time to load this up yet. At the Yellow Head building in Shenmue 2 port, will play Yakuza Kiwami 2 as soon as I'm done with that...

It's been a little bit since I've played 0 but 2 is the game with the thickest crime drama element, IMO. There's so many characters and things going in that it stays engaging without being unwieldy. It really keeps that atmosphere and story throughout the title without taking the peddle off the gas. It's pretty noticeable as well as I just played 4, 5, and 6 after finishing Kiwami 2 I really liked Sayama myself but I do agree she is kind of abrasive early on.

The release shouldn't be too far off now.

I'm interested to see how much they can optimise the dragon engine for PC. Those folks used to playing Zero/Kiwami 1 at 4k/120 fps may be in for a nasty surprise at the system requirements.

It certainly looks pretty amazing. Should look even better on PC (not that I even have a system capable of running it right now :messenger_loudly_crying:). Will buy anyway, to show support for Yakuza on PC.

I advertised for Google Stadia
Just saw it, a lucky guess! I think that's a pretty fair price.
I would pay 10 euros for model 2 ports of VF2 and Virtual On each.
For 10, Sega gives me a Enhanced, 4K, uncapped PS4 Dragin Engine game. This is porn.

Dragon engine PS4= Wushu/Mulan
Dragon Engine PC = Shenron/DBZ

Although the arcades are a great feature for PS4 owners too, most of the featured games have already been released at some point or another on PS2/PS3. For PC only gamers however, it represents a first ever release on the platform. Amazing value!

Virtua Fighter 2 or Virtual On were on PC but it's saturn ports, if i'm not mistaken.
(I also think Sega Rally 2 was a dreancast port at the time). Indeed, it's a pleasure having model 2 ports now and i'm pretty confident we'll have Daytona or After Burner Climax ports sooner or later. (there was Motor Raid in Judment)

The reviews for the PC version are starting to drop. Everyone already knows how good the game is from playing the PS4 version, so I'll try to pick out the most important parts for the PC version (i.e. performance for the first dragon engine PC game):

PC World

If you’ve been playing through the series chronologically, be prepared to be amazed because Kiwami 2looks incredible. Yakuza 0 and the first Kiwami were both built on the Yakuza 5 engine, which was designed to run on the PlayStation 3. Kiwami 2upgrades to the Yakuza 6 engine, native to the PlayStation 4, and it shows.

Kamurocho and Sotenbori, Yakuza’s fictional recreations of Kabukicho and Dotonbori, both appear as if they’ve been scaled up slightly to feel more city-like. The streets are bustling as well, with enormous pedestrian crowds and even rare automobile traffic at times. And then there’s the neon, so much neon, reflecting off glass and the streets and the water. Of course this has a huge performance impact, and even my GeForce GTX 1080 Ti has topped out around 70 or 75 frames per second in a lot of areas, running at 1080p Ultra.

jeuxonline

Translated to english:

"Overall,
on an average configuration with Ryzen 5 1600 (original frequency), 8GB
of RAM and a GTX 1060 6GB, the game runs between 60 and 75 frames per
second in the highest configuration in 1080p. During the few hours spent
on the game, it happened several times that it went under the 60 mark
(in the busiest scenes), but this could have been avoided without
difficulty by reducing anti-aliasing for example, especially by avoiding
the SSAA."

Translation provided by a user on the PC Gamer review by the name of Ezequiel Marquez

I checked a few other reviews but, surprisingly for a PC game review, they don't seem to contain any info regarding performance. Thank god for Digital Foundry, I guess (speaking of which, hopefully we'll get a DF episode, like we did with Yakuza 0)

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
I've heard Kiwami is pretty lackluster and I'm just coming off the highs of Like a Dragon and 0, can I go straight to Kiwami 2? I'm pretty sure I finished the original Yakuza on PS2 so I wouldn't be missing the story completely. Is Kiwami 2 as good as 0 or better/the best of the most recent titles?

Kiwami 2 is excellent and has quite possibly the most insanely awesome final boss ever. Not sure if it's going to feel like a letdown after playing 0, I suppose it's possible. But it's a safer bet than the first Kiwami, although I greatly enjoyed that one as well.

Finished Kiwami 2. Good game. Overall as good as 0 I suppose so around 8/10.

The fighting engine is better but it has a few really cheap bosses (but then you just go cheap yourself and use some OP weapon you saved up or have unlocked some ultimate Kiryu skill on top of too many health items to care, it's still not fun but at least it's not annoying to keep dying on them), it has a bit more open feel to the city exploration, much closer to Like a Dragon than 0, but a worse story imo. The character relationships don't really work in the time frame it spans so they feel forced and the way characters survive or die just to advance the plot struck me harder in this than others. Like, how can you fight a damn army, guns included, then have everyone at a standstill because the culript behind the whole thing appears alone, with a pistol, and they act like he has the upper hand and they can't do anything and he offs anyone and everyone as he sees fit? They just didn't make the circumstances believable. The overall story is not bad, the mysteries, the twists and turns, but the way it's presented and unfolds is. Perhaps on the PS2 original it was more understandable to fill in blanks by yourself and for cut scenes to differ much more to gameplay like this.

If Kiryu's story keeps getting worse like this maybe it's best we didn't get 3, 4, 5 and 6, we'll see. But hopefully they keep making action games like this, like Judgement or Fist of the North Star, instead of only continue with the JRPG stuff as in Like a Dragon (which is my GOTY but variety is the spice of life). They definitely need to find a way to keep interest in the action without cheap tactics that make it shallow with enemies that don't follow the rules your character adheres to in terms of how and when shit can be blocked and when you cause flinching or can use specials. They also shouldn't be scared of imposing limits in terms of food and weapons and items you can have at a time. You can hoard way too much to the point you only get any difficulty if you play while hoarding items and not even using them for the majority of the game (which is basically what I did without thinking it, then when encountering the cheap bosses I was miffed at first then I was like oh well, I got this OP shit to use, whatever). The Majima mini story, which I didn't like to play as much because his fighting style doesn't work for me, does restrict you in some ways and it's more properly challenging, like with how you can't overeat unlike with Kiryu so if you wanna heal you'll use up your healing items or deliberately go cheap yourself and wait way too long for the hunger gauge to empty again so you can eat normal food, which is you knowingly breaking the system at that point. You could still hoard actual healing items but I sent all my money to the sub story stuff it has so couldn't buy too many or anything and you only find a few scattered around. But it's a short story so.

Also, Love Virtual On with twin stick controls, though I still fail at like stage 5 or 6 on Normal, lol. Trying to 1cc it to know I'm doing better. These shots are from when Haruka wanted me to play, thankfully she was impressed with my efforts, because in Karaoke and Black Jack I totally failed, hah. More side quests and side objectives should use the arcade games, why can't Kiryu enter a Virtua Fighter 2 tournament or something, with actual "player" challengers? That'd be so rad, instead in 0 there's just that old fuck asking you to just get past stage 3 or whatever, like Haruka in this game.
