Level-5 has announced earlier this morning that shipments for Youkai Watch 2 have reached 3m units (that includes download sales from the eShop) on Nov. 7 (today). Looks like it took them roughly 4 months to reach that, versus 1 month for the 2 million mark.

At retail, game has sold a little over 2 800 000 units (2 815 000 units, I believe), so it should have no problem reaching 3m on its own before the end of the year. Will it do so before Shin Uchi comes out on Dec. 13?... Maybe, Youkai Watch sales can be unpredictable.

And from the looks of it, it could very well reach 4m LTD if you include sales of the 3rd version (coming out on Dec. 13).

You don't. That 3m number is amount of physical copies shipped + units sold on the eShop.

There's no download card fr YW2, and even if there was, they probably wouldn't be counted until the code was used on the eShop.

3 million is an extremely high bar for just the japanese market, especially for non-Nintendo games.
Currently even 2 million is very high bar.

Just think that last gen the number of third-party games that sold more than 1M in Japan for Wii, PS3 and PSP were:
