Let's post our 10 most favorite movies of all time! Don't confuse this with ranking the most technically perfect films of all time (that would be the 10 BEST movies of all time), instead it's movies you enjoy the most.

My list with a healthy dose of films that just missed the cut:

1. Boogie Nights (1997)
2. Seven Samurai (1954)
3. Sonatine (1993)
4. Ed Wood (1994)
5. Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)
6. Phantom Thread (2017)
7. It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
8. Rushmore (1998)
9. The Unknown (1927)
10. Return of the Living Dead (1985)

Honorable mentions:
The Before Trilogy: Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight

2001: A Space Odyssey
The Goonies
Blade Runner
Life is Beautiful

Wow what a question. Very hard for me to pick....

Off the top of the head, without much thinking:

The Deer Hunter
Bull Durham
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Interstellar (people make fun of me for this, but I honertly was blown away by this film. The score by Zimmer is simply remarkable)
Ghostbusters
The Departed
Swingers
Forrest Gump
Braveheart
The Goonies

Too many honorable mentions to list. I’ll probably change this list a dozen times too

Good list, JareBear: Remastered JareBear: Remastered ! The Deer Hunter is an amazing, should've made my honorable mentions list! I'm not a fan of Nolan at all, but Interstellar was definitely his best! Swingers is a classic, I've probably watched that at least 10 times.

Goonies never say die!!!

Lion King
Inception
The Pianist
Mad Max Fury Road
Inglorious Basterds
Birdman
Children of Men
Whiplash

In no particular order, except the top 4 which are very strong contenders for top movie.

I might edit in some honorable mentions as it's kind of absurd to narrow down all movies to just 10

Edit: NVM, that would be too much.

I have a few lists on letterboxd

https://letterboxd.com/donuts/lists/

But if I had to choose 10 films I enjoy the most, regardless of quality or RT score :

Home alone
Back to the future
Jurassic Park
The stoned age
The exorcist
The breakfast club
Rambo first blood
Terminator 2
The shining
Office space

Pretty good mix of horror, comedy, DIY punk, action, coming of age, thriller, etc ... I could probably make a top 100 list for EACH genre lol

I'm maybe a bit older than some of you, and I'm by no means a movie junkie. I know I've missed viewing a lot of good ones.

I've made the distinction between "favorite" and "best". These are just the movies I can sit down and watch nearly any time I see them playing. I know there are better movies, and I've left off a bunch that are part of franchises that I love.

Oh, by the way... I like musicals.

In no particular order:

The Sound of Music
The Shawshank Redemption
Dazed and Confused
Pulp Fiction
Raiders of the Lost Ark
GoodFellas
Once
Annie Hall
Forrest Gump
Schindler's List

At the risk of being hated, I just want to say that I have always hated Forrest Gump. Now I can be despised by those who belong to the cult of Gump.

Seriously, I hate that movie. I remember back in the day having a conversation with a clerk at Blockbuster and she recommended I see it. I told her that I already had, and that I couldn't stand it, and the look she gave me was as if I had murdered her cat. I'll never forget that moment, lol.

LotR Trilogy
Star Wars original trilogy
The Matrix
Braveheart
Terminator 2
Predator
Last of the Mohicans
Dumb and Dumber
The Naked Gun
Pitch Black

Separating out the two trilogies would make the list more precise and bump off a lot of others.

A few honorable mentions:
The Raid
Road House
Terminator
Airplane

Late additions (Westerns edition)
Blazing Saddles
The Three Amigos
The Sons of Katie Elder
Tombstone
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
A very rough top 10 - the order changes over time but generally these stay in:

1. Pulp Fiction
2. The Evil Dead
3. The Thing
4. Goodfellas
5. The Empire Strikes Back
6. The Dark Knight
7. Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
8. Fight Club
9. Ocean's Eleven
10. The Social Network

And then 15 More that could break the above list over time:

Alien
The Warriors
The Shining
Back to the Future
Trainspotting
The Matrix
The Silence of the Lambs
Dogma
Hackers
Se7en
Children of Men
Donnie Darko
American Psycho
Sin City
Snatch

Not saying that I think the top ten are better movies than the lower fifteen, I think I've just ended up watching those ones more over the years. They're mostly generic choices, IDGAF, they're my favourites.

The stoned age

The Stoned Age is a super underrated movie. Great choice!

The scene at 2:20 when Tack's vest explodes on impact is a personal favorite.

Audition

Bonus: My top 10 films for 2018(I actually did a top 50 though)

Number 9: The Night is Short, Walk on Girl

Number 7: You Were Never Really Here

Number 5: Thoroughbreds

Number 4: Shoplifters

Audition is a great film. I remember seeing it at a special screening during college and looking at my friend's faces during the climax. One of my favorite horror films!

Your 2018 list is fantastic, by the way. Love all of those above films. Shoplifters was a masterpiece, and I'm dissapointed Thoroughbreds didn't get much attention, maybe because it came out too early in the year? The Night is Short, Walk on Girl was the best anime I saw last year, slightly edging out Mirai.

Tough to nail down just 10 but I watch these the most...

9. An American Werewolf in London (1981)

The wolf transformation by Rick Baker :messenger_smiling_hearts:

Husky

THE Prey 2 fanatic
After watching a few hundred films each year, here's what I've got for a rough top ten.

1. Cloud Atlas
2. Willow
3. American Beauty
4. Star Wars
5. Enemy
6. The Man from Earth
7. Another Earth
8. Source Code
9. Sound of my Voice
10. Planet of the Apes
and lemme drop Good Will Hunting somewhere around here

5. King Kong (2005)
6. The Empire Strikes Back
7. Star Wars
8. Alien
9. The Shawshank Redemption
10. Spider-Man 2

I'm sure I forgot many so it could change.

I think the timing and subject matter just didn't do it any favors much like First Reformed.

Can't believe I forgot 2001, for some reason I disliked Hal 9000, but liked the mcp. The mcp was infinitely more advanced and humane. The hal was narrow ai, mcp was true general intelligence... if only it had the appearance of a little girl it'd have been triumphant.

Though perhaps a more fitting avatar for the mcp is the following given memetic resonance and high symbolic value

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Bourne Identy (2002) - best in the series
Matrix (1999) - spills futuristic guts everywhere, love it
Terminator (1984) - unquestionably GOAT
The Dark Knight (2008) - different perspective of Batman, has the villains, music etc. has it all
images

Star Wars (1977) - still holds up well
Halloween (1978) - holds up today
Pulp Fiction (1994) - a movie unlike any other
No Country for Old Men (2007) - star power

Saving Private Ryan (1998) - 5/5

Some great picks in this thread, my list will lean more toward the action side. Growing up I was exposed to some great Hong Kong cinema that I fell in love with.

One side comment is that I am a bit sad at the lack of Bloodsport, I watched that movie so much as a kid that I could recite the whole script as the movie played. “You break my records, now I break you, like I break your friend.”

In no particular order:

-Godfather
-Godfather II
-Bloodsport
-The Killer (first time being exposed to Chow Yun Fat...wow)
-Police Story (same as above but for Jackie Chan)
-The Matrix
-The Incredibles
-Aliens
-No Country for Old Men
-Leon: The Professional

Honorable mentions are Rocky, Goodfellas, Terminator 2, The Kite Runners, Searching for Bobby Fischer, Fist of Legend...ok, ok, I will stop.

In no particular order:
- The Godfather
- Aliens
- Mad Max: Fury Road
- Spartacus
- The Dark Knight
- Taxi Driver
- The Matrix
- The Terminator 2
- The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
- Gladiator

Honorable mentions:
- Good Will Hunting
- Heat
- Scarface
- Fight Club
- Raging Bull
- The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
- Rocky

Some of the honorable mentions can be considered better than some movies in my top 10; the choices in that list boil down to personal taste and the experience I had with them.

Also I just realized there's a lot of great movies I haven't watched yet. Gotta fix that.
