Your way up till today?

What has been your way up till today's generation? Personally, It all begun in 1987 with:

NES -> Amiga 500 -> Amiga 1200 -> PlayStation -> N64 -> Dreamcast -> PlayStation 2 -> GameCube -> PlayStation 3 -> Wii -> Xbox 360 -> Xbox One -> PlayStation 4 -> Switch -> ?

PC (and handhelds) excluded. Has always been there in one way or another. Currently my main gaming rig.

EDIT: Updated with GameCube and Wii, which I forgot. And no, no handhelds included.

Coleco Telstar Ranger (THAT SHIT CAME WITH A HANDGUN) > Atari 2600 > Colecovision > TRS 80 with floppy drive and tape drive > NES > Genesis > Sega CD > 386PC > 486PC > SNES > PS1 > Saturn > More PC upgrades DOS > 3.1 > 3.11 > Win XP > Dreamcast > PS2 > Xbox (for like 2 games) > PS3 > Windows 7 > PS4 > Windows 10 > PS4Pro > PSVR

I know I had an N64 in there somewhere but like Xbox it was very very brief and for a handful of titles over a few weekends. Only thing I have now are Ps4Pro+PSVR, PC and the older spare PS4 in another room for media player.

Game Boy Pocket (I had a lot of earlier gaming experience, just not on my own system)
N64
Game Boy Color
SNES (A little out of order, huh? I wanted my own : P)
Dreamcast/GBA/GameCube/Xbox/PS2 (In order of pick-up)
DS/Wii/Xbox 360/PS3/PSP
3DS/Wii U/PS4
Switch (not sure what gen to put this in) and likely a PS5 or Xbox Series X. I haven’t decided yet.

My list made me realize me realize that our choices have contracted a little.

It wasn’t long ago (in Boomer time) that we had five active systems, all with their own libraries, differentiating features, and/or lots of exclusives.

Now it seems like you can mostly buy two systems, with the odd exclusive missed, and do just fine.

Many different PCs through all of this:

Famicom -> Super Famicom -> Megadrive -> Mega CD -> PC Engine/CD -> Playstation 1 -> Sega Saturn -> Sega Dreamcast -> PS2 -> Gamecube -> Transition to PC/Nintendo only -> Wii -> WiiU -> Switch

Portable: Game Boy -> Game Gear -> Sega Nomad (imported, didn't work with my games, had to import some, ate batteries, waste of money but cool) ->Game Boy Color -> WonderSwan -> WonderSwan Color (FF edition) -> Game Boy Advance -> Game Boy Advance SP -> PSP -> DS ->3DS -> Vita -> And I guess the Switch counts here too.

Aside from the WiiU, PS2, Nomad, Vita, and original WonderSwan I still have all the others and their games, but I've long since stored them away (minus the Switch of course) after making backups of my games and using emulation to play them instead. These days the above machines pretty much belong to my daughter (minus the Switch again, she has her own) for whatever she wants to do with them.

The order might not be perfect, but it's close.

Pong > Atari 2600 > Intellivision > Atari 5200 > Colecovision > Commodore 64 > NES > Sega MasterSystem > Sega Genesis > Atari Lynx > SegaCD > SNES > PC (486) > Atari Jaguar > 3DO > Nintendo64 > PlayStation > PC (P2) > Sega Saturn > Sega Dreamcast > PC (Athlon) > PS2 > Xbox > PC (P4) > Xbox 360 > PS4 > WiiU > PC (i7) > PS4 Pro

My way up:
1986 Tandy 100 Color computer
1988 NES
1991 SNES
1993 Tandy 1000 (yeah I was LttP, but Battle Tech, 688 Attack Sub, Mega Traveller, among others)
1995 Sega Genesis
1996 Win 95
Late 90's Win 98/ME/??
2001 GameCube
2002 Win XP
2004 DS
2006 Wii
2007 360
2008 PS3
2012 Wii U
2017 Switch
2018 PS4

After the early 2000's, I don't even feel like mentioning what OS I gamed on, but I did game a ton on it Probably around 2007-2010 I slowly fell out of PC gaming because my friends were playing together on 360. Have kept with building my own PC but haven't refreshed the hardware nearly as much post-2012.

EDIT: I completely forgot to even list the 3DS, but I got one of those somewhere along the way, too. And the New 3DS. SMH.

I owned a genesis somewhere in there (well after it was old) but I can't quite remember when it was. I sold my ps2 to build my firs PC back in high school and have had one ever since. This generation I've had no console and have been PC only. The PS1 and dreamcast I had at the same time.

Sega Master System > Sega Genesis > Super Nintendo > Game Gear > Sony PlayStation > Sega Dreamcast > PlayStation 2 > Xbox > PSP > Xbox 360 > PlayStation 3 > Wii > Wii U > Vita > PlayStation 4 > Xbox One > PlayStation 4 Pro > Xbox One X > Nintendo Switch

I had difficulty placing the portable machines and may have put them in the wrong spot.... game gear especially foggy...

My one regret is I never owned a Saturn.

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

And of course others in between that were not my 'main' console, but owned for periods alongside or bought later out of curiosity, such as Jaguar and Jaguar CD, 3DO, PS1, PS3, CDi, NeoGeo CD, Virtual Boy, Vita, SNES, various handhelds etc etc.

PC - for a bit of time in the mid nineties. After some fiddling around and getting pissed off with the broken nature of some games, I left PC gaming behind and did not return to it seriously until a year ago.

Gamecube
PlayStation 2

Xbox 360

Playstation 4
PC - built one myself a year ago. Do most of my gaming on it these days.

Had a PC of some sort for a lot of that time too, as well as pretty much all the handhelds along the way.

Didn't include PC because that and upgrades have been all over the place since 1998.

*Parents got this off someone, had it for a year. Came with a couple games including Super Mario World, but never committed to that console.
**Bought this with Gears and Crackdown, got ridiculous buyer's remorse and got rid of it. Worst thing I ever bought. Hated the controller and the jet engine fans.
***Got off a friend. Mostly became a homebrew machine towards the end, didn't do much with it.
****Got one cheap before the library was good, partial trade towards the 360. This thing was in pristine condition, barely used. Eventually bought a terrible condition one from eBay with Pokémon Black/White.
