Can someone give me a rundown as to why people don't want to help TriForce? What has he done wrong?

From the videos i've seen he spends more time out of line then in it. What's the point if your just staying at a hotel anyway?

because until the official line starts they cant stay there overnight without getting in trouble and trust me all the free publicity this guy is giving nintendo im sure they will let it slip to him before anyone else when the official line starts so he can be number 1.

Wouldn't be Triforce if he wasn't swindling impressionable teenage gamers, lol

the funny thing is it works though, you have a host with a good personality telling people to donate money to this dude, who, if he just like, worked a regular job for a month or two, would have the money for video equipment...i donno, there's a zillion other things in this world that would be more worthwhile to donate to but in this era this kind of shit always works, what a time to be alive i guess.

I wonder how many of the ethical quandries Alex is creating here would be solved if they just stopped using GoFundMe and set Triforce up a Patreon instead. GoFundMe is no strings attached money: there is no control over what is done with the money, and there is no real promise of anything coming from the donations other than the theoretical promise of new videos, and do these people really care about Triforce's videos when he's not involved in this process? It's short-sighted, on all parties—Alex isn't coercing or forcing anyone to do things under false pretenses, but his own GoFundMe had a very clear set of promises (daily vlogs from New York) that those who donated could get in exchange for a donation. This is not that, and strikes me as an example of the way younger people see crowdfunding as an everyday thing, as opposed to something that must be weighed more carefully. (And 108 people have donated an average of $20, so clearly those donating aren't concerned about weighing things either).

Not that he's reading, but the easiest solution here would be to kill two birds with one stone: given that others have expressed concerns about all the gifts, take a selection of the gifts and auction them off for Triforce's new gear. He can sign them (so people who can't get to NY to get autographs—since this is a thing people clearly want for whatever reason—could get them), and then they could generate funds while also offloading the burden of so many gifts (and make future gifts a "donation" rather than just a thing for him to own). This, of course, would require logistics, whereas setting up a GoFundMe takes two seconds, but c'est la internet.

Watching these videos over the course of days, it's gotten more and more readily apparent that all of this is just a sad grift...

And I don't express that sans actual sadness. I do feel the kid is enthusiastic, and that his fandom is genuine. That's great to see! But it's also not great to see someone take, and take, and take from so many that come just to share in excitement. And so many that give are either young kids, or people that are truly excited for the system and the energy surrounding his place in line. And to continually do that, and then on top of that asking for money, even after his own trip was paid for, just feels manipulative and gross.

Sad thing is, in a week's time, this mania and gift grabbing will only get ore excessive, and then after all that the greediness occurring will be anointed "valid" by Reggie.

Oh well.
How is he taking anything from anyone? They literally bring him gifts, it's not like it's a requirement. He meets tons of people that just want him to sign something and or take a picture.

I actually feel bad for the kid. It seems more apparent that people are bringing him gifts in exchange to plug their own start up YouTube channel.

I commend him for staying gracious about it, because a lot of them are just kids, but it really is starting to get ridiculous.

On another note, would be hilarious if someone snakes the spot.

that would be pretty hilarious if someone did that, but I'm pretty sure he's good with the nintendo store staff that they would put him in front regardless.
I sort of want someone to do that. Making a blog in front of the Nintendo store for a month doesn't mean you should be first I'd someone else is actually willing to camp out.

Walked down to check it out, these guys don't even wait there the entire time (anybody can come claim it right now).

They also leave the place a mess http://imgur.com/0QXkgjX

They can't stay there at night until the official line start

Eh it sucks for this guy because some big Nintendo Youtubers have received the Nintendo switch already. Guess it's a win for him for his channel growing tho.

I'm sure Triforce said in a video he don't need money and would rather have actual items given.

So I'm sure they will use the money on equipment.

But the big question: What equipment?

Also, I want a Gaffer to start camping out there so they can get told off and all of this "They don't even wait there all the time!" thing can end lol.

You know what, everyone? I also think he deliberately broke that 3DS so he could get a free replacement. I know, I know! I'm a monster.

I know nothing about Triforce's past, but I didn't buy that either. The first thing I thought when I saw him showing it was that it was already broken and he realized in the days before that people were giving them free shit. But I don't think he necessarily broke it on purpose, unless the console was dead and he had to make it look like an accident.

I was in the city to help a friend get the Limited Edition Zelda art book and decided to pop by and say Hi to CND, he seems like a cool guy. Now to check if the GAF thread about this escapade has more posts and Ohhhhhh boy.

Unless it was edited out, I might be in the next vlog for a quick bit or two. I'm sorry I didn't shout-out GAF. I subliminally wanted to leave that to the other GAFer meeting him later in the weekend, and I was super-sleepy.

Edit: And now I have insomnia. Great.
Turns out TriForce does have a Patreon. It... isn't at its goal.

Well...I'd kinda say if I scoped out a trip on someone else's dime halfway across the country as an eighteen year old, then had kids that were 8-14 running up to me merrily giving me all sorts of goodies ranging from multiple cardpacks, to food, to shirts, etc, that I don't know....Maybe at some point, at some point, I'd say.....no? The kids and everyone around certainly seems generous, and he very openly plugs other kids/people's channels, which is great, but really what other content is being created day after day? He talks to kids/people pimping their channels, gets gifts, and plays low key ambient music in-between slow-mo cuts of traffic and passers-by. It's not like he's really interviewing anyone, providing news, or offering opinions on much of anything.

I'm just saying it's a bit of a racket, in a peculiar way. The moment not one, but THREE 3DS's were donated to TriForce, things felt hinky. Couldn't the guy have again, maybe given two back...Or maybe, three??? That's a forty year old dude accepting $200 or more gifts from people he'll most likely never speak to after this is over. That's a grift, no two ways about it, and now...CND has the nerve to say HE wants to help him get more gear, and rather than use his own cash or any number of shirts, collectibles, or other items he could eBay, he's asking for donated cash, again...from the awkward gaming community and kids. That's rank. Sure people are getting channels plugged, but at anywhere from the cost of a pizza to a 3DS.

(Oh, and he's definitely gracious! That false kinda charm is exactly what keeps the gravy train a rolling! I'm not saying he's Satan, but c'mon, this is a charismatic, handsome, young kid who talks the talk, fluffs people's feathers up, and then reaps benefits most people wouldn't if they were out waiting in line for a gaming system.)

So, what did this Triforce cat do in the past to rile y'all? Like specifically.

I know you said specifically, but most of this stuff happened a while ago so I'm only vaguely aware from casual FGC lurking. He'd get players on his e-sports team Empire Arcadia and not pay them on time, not pay them what was promised, send players out to tournaments with no place to stay and no return flight, stuff like that. He's got a horrible reputation in the FGC.

The Plaza that Nintendo HQ is on do not allow camping of any kind until the 'official' Nintendo line starts (around 5 days before launch).

Once that begins, Nintendo hand out wristbands to people which holds their line in the queue. He has already claimed his spot from being around for 18 days.

It's the same way I feel about twitch streamers and donations. They constantly get donations from strangers, for no reason other than the fact that they like the content and want to support the streamer. I can identify with that, some content has gotten me through some hard times, maybe just simply a bad day, and if given the opportunity I would love to give them a gift and meet them. It's the least I can do for making life just a little easier.

It's not like he's working, that's basically his job, so anything helps.

I do agree with you on the 3DS situation because the guy personally walked triforce into the Nintendo store and bought him a new one. That's a crap load of money, it's different from the little nitnacks they usually get. There is no reason why he should have kept 3, lol.

Ebaying gifts? Scum of the earth kind of shit right there, hopefully that wasn't even a consideration.

I thought about getting a chair + sign that says "start of the line" and planting myself there just to see their reaction.

I thought they were or had returned two of the 3DS's?

Refusing people's gifts or using them as prizes can backfire pretty quickly, it wouldn't be smart of him to do that. Also, Alex is a collector, which is part of what compels people to give him rare swag all the time.

I thought they were or had returned two of the 3DS's?
Maybe, I'm not sure to be honest. I don't remember them saying anything about it?
It was like this:

1. Alex received money on his account from someone who told him it was to be used on a 3DS for Triforce.
2. That morning, someone else went with Triforce into the store and bought him a 3DS.
3. That same day another guy gifted Triforce a rare Zelda edition 3DS.

The money for the first one ended up not being used on a purchase since a 3DS was already bought, and Alex transferred it to Triforce's account instead. The second one was returned to the store. The Zelda 3DS is the one Triforce kept.

They talk about it @ 14:44:

I think it is an awesome experience to hang out in NYC for a month waiting for a new Nintendo console at Nintendo's flagship retail store.

Wait he didnt even pay for his trip himself? Who paid for it and WHY?!
Donations from people who like him and want to see more content from him. Pretty much every youtuber with a certain amount of subs gets money directly from their fanbase one way or another these days (Patreon, etc).

Lol at the guy who came up and plugged his YouTube by admitting it's cringy as hell.

I don't think it's been most of the thread, just some members.

The start of the thread was rough. It got a lot better though of course, it's good now. If he just glanced at the thread I could see him thinking it was full of trolls or whatever.

Not trolls. Just a handful of bitter jaded people. I loved the part where Triforce slapped Gabe's hand away. You don't touch the sacred Switch.

Bitter jaded people who bought some kid lunch and in return got called trolls - his only comment other than a very brief thanks was "hope it's not poisoned."
