If you didn't have weapon breaking then most of the exploration rewards would be redundant, you'd find the treasure of the bandit misko (1H fire sword) and then every one you found after that you'd just not pick it up because you already had it. If they made it so there was only one of each weapon in the world most people wouldn't find them in their playthrough (because most people that played it didn't scour the whole map, far from it) and the rewards for 90% of the secrets would become food or minerals, at that point why would you bother since there are much more efficient ways to get fruit, veg and minerals.

I would have liked if you could repair weapons too, definitely for those certain special ones that can't be farmed (Like giant boomerang, the enemies that spawn with it don't often drop it and there are only 7-8 in chests around the world). What i think they should've added as quest/secret rewards instead of just weapons was recipes, I think they missed a trick making a bunch of "super recipes" that gave you multiple buffs at once, all the delicious cakes and such only give red hearts, it would've been cool if they had more point.

If it's the same amount of voice acting of the first one they probably started and finished in the same day.

Star Citizen is a bad example, wonder why they have trouble finishing anything, the script can change at any time of developement, i don't see why anyone should record multiple audio files thru the process of still figuring out how the story will unfold (additional cost), I would understand if it was motion capture but voice acting usually is the last part of developement.
(excuse my eng, not a native speaker)

It's an extreme example, but a factual one.

I'm not guessing. This is how game development works. Voice acting is factually done as soon as possible, and very often just as soon as the script is done.

voice acting usually is the last part of development.

This is a common misconception and incorrect in today's development pipelines.

lmao reminds me when I accidently put surround on in the game settings and didnt have center channel speaker and I thought the whole game didnt have voice acting. I guess I didnt miss much since it wasnt that great anyway. all I had was subtitles but it felt like an old zelda game.

Megaton if true. I could see this being a holiday release to push Switch sales, but color me extremely doubtful. If this game is anything near the scope of BotW it'll be a while.

Did they add dungeons this time?
But we already had dungeons at home

Durability complainers are a vast minority. The rest can be improved. Durability has to stay as it is, because it's one of the best and most important design features in BotW, since it forces/motivates the player to actually go explore and makes finding new weapons meaningful/exciting, because the player simply needs them.
Yeah, so exciting.
So meaningful.

Love breath of the wild but left over dlc sounds like a nightmare, a better fit is a Majora's Mask version of breath of the wild, I'm not sure you can sell dlc as a full game to fans but they'll get away with it, gamers accept anything these days.

Weapon durability is fine. The whole theme of the game is survival in the wild and scavenging for supplies. Cry more, babies. I hope every weapon in the sequel is made of glass.

Mario Galaxy 2 started out as a Mario Galaxy expansion pack and ended up being the better game of the two.

With Coronavirus they might decide to delay it anyways.

Or wait to fill a huge gap, i think at the earliest we will see it March of next year

Here, Now and maybe later
I still fully expect this to be (one of) the Holiday games for Nintendo this year. Probably in August we will get the announcements from NIntendo for their Holiday lineup. Will be Zelda and a Mario/Pokemon/mass consumer type game. Also expect a Metroid sizzle reel and a Spring/Summer 2021 release date... that will probably slip. Nintendo really needs to stay in the consumer's mind during the launch of the PS5 and XSX, so I expect some bombs.

Easy remedy, have other shit to do in the world (besides find korok seeds). Problem solved.

Why couldn't this come out as the 2020 Nintendo Holiday title?
Because that would be pretty aggressive even before covid. And we know that Japan was slower to adjust to working at home, with much less people having powerful pcs at home.

And the first one had a whole e3 dedicated just to it. And multiple trailers. And it was delayed multiple times.

It's just unlikely.

As a post production editor working in the film / advertising biz ( slightly different but post production works similarly in gaming ) I just don’t see this as being possible . These actors may have completed VO that was required for marketing purposes ( trailers and spots) but to finish VO would indicate the story is 100 percent locked ( Nintendo often tells us the story ends up being one of the final phases of pre -production /production. ( Gameplay first !)
Of course we know nothing about where this game is in development , so I concede it certainly is possible , but just based on the unfinished nature of the first teaser ( it was a development announcement , no art assets or title or gameplay )

Also meant to mention that VO audio usually has temporary recordings done by people working in the office all the way up until the very end , sometimes putting in the final actors VO RIGHT before release .

Or even better, have more interesting weapons to find.

People talk like having unbreakable weapons destroy the meaning of researching other weapons...except this is how it works in 99,99% of games with great exploration :ROFLMAO:

Does anyone not even remember BOTW and the Wii U???

Should be out in 2014! Guarantee its coming in 2015! Guarantee its coming in 2016!

Dont hold your breath and also dont buy a Switch just for this game. Most likely they will delay it again in order to coincide with the Switch 2 release (yes I am still salty)

Yo Really?? I bought one in 2015 just for BOTW because Nintendo said for sure it was coming that year. I am still pissed and I dont own a Switch yet for that very reason. I am still pissed.

To be honest though I ended up buying tons of Wii U games and I love the system, but Im not buying a Switch until BOTW2 is actually in the stores.

The Korok seeds became a bit samey, maybe they can switch it up a bit in the sequel. Perhaps Gerudo seeds. Maybe even Zelda seeds. Then hand them back for a reward.

I'm not surprised to be honest. It sounds like we're just going to be running around the same locations with a few cosmetic changes anyway.

Don’t really know if the end of nominal voice acting sessions really indicates any kind of progression milestone. Sometimes voice sessions wrap years before a game releases, this is basically just confirmation the storyboard is complete, but that doesn’t mean a whole lot. They could still be building dungeons, tweaking systems, a year of polish and bug testing after that, etc.

TL;DR — This is a big nothing burger.

First one was such overrated garbo, I hope this one will be a proper Zelda game. I don't give a fuck about Zelda if it doesn't have actual dungeons and the Triforce

Agreed, all you have do is look at VA's saying "I worked on this game for two years... 4 years ago" to know that as well.

Maybe people are getting confused with dubbing?

I just imagined all the shrines were a split up version of several large dungeons. Or is it more a theme problem for you? They are all the same and feel a bit cold and lifeless because of it.

Haven’t they been working on this game in some capacity since the first one wrapped three years ago? It started out as a DLC idea for that game after all. I don’t think it’s too far fetched to think it could make it this year.

I mean, I’m doubtful, but I can see how it’d technically be possible.

Isn’t dubbing what they’re talking about though? I thought it was a couple of the Spanish language VAs saying they were done recording.

You may be right I haven't read the news, but I meant dubbing something that already exists into other languages after its released in the original country. As opposed to the game releasing with EFIGS on day-one.

I'm surprised we don't have a solid release date by now, to be honest.

Didn't they say that the assets from BotW were going to be re-used? Same world, and all that? Same engine?

Why would they need more than three and a half years to get that done? Maybe it turned into a bigger game than we were expecting.

Take your time Nintendo and maybe you can create an actual game instead of the unfinished mess that BOTW was. We all loved the empty lands, cut and pasted shrines and towers, no enemy variety, useless loot, pathetic bosses, and complete lack of story.

BOTW had basically the same amount of effort that the new Pokemon game had. Not much. Currently I'm playing Dragon Warrior on Switch and it looks amazing. Voice acting, cut scenes, a shit ton of enemies, weapons that don't break. You can see the effort and care that went into that game. Zelda felt like a rush job with a fuck you thrown in for good measure with the Korok seeds.

Please be good Zelda 2, because it is one of my all time favorite series.

I feel like your posts reinforce the idea that this project is very far along. These are spanish voice actors doing the voice work for their language, which would clearly mean that the japanese (and english) scripts are finished and voiced.

DGrayson DGrayson it took Nintendo more than 2 years to even figure out the game they were making with BotW. If we're being fair, it maybe took them another 1.5 years to create the world and the puzzles/shrines. They did a lot of the content on a very short runway, iirc, once they got a plan together.

Abriael_GN Abriael_GN they've been working on this for quite a long while (going back DLC development when this got pucked out of their DLC plans). If they were finished with it tomorrow it wouldn't be a short development window. Of course, game worlds like the one in BotW can require a lot of testing.

I was hoping this would be the MM to BotW's OoT and do something new and creative with the same art assets. Looks like that is not the case.

I hope they are not planning to add an underground to Hyrule for the new content (IIRC the previews looked like underground excavations). A bunch of tunnels under Hyrule would be fucking terrible.

Yeah but it can be toned down a bit, you lose weapons way way too fast. Or atleast have a few permanent weapon or a repair system or at the very least double the durability time.

TBH, there should have been a weapon proficiency system that increased with use of weapons of each class. Weapons would last longer as you became more proficient with them, and mastery could have linked it into quests for "legendary" weapons that have infinite durability.

A game built around the concepts of pure freedom and emergent gameplay where you are forced to change weapons every few hits because... reasons...

Every few hits is exaggerated.

Being forced to do something is the greatest thing about my free time.

You do realized that every video game (or every game ever) does exactly that: it forces you to do something. Videogame are about creating stimuli for the players. In that sence their intend is to force to player to do something. Try to play a platformer without being forced to jump. Try playing a shooter without being forced to shoot. Play any game without being forced to press a button in order to execute a command. It's about giving those actions a meaning, and that's called game design.

Yeah, so exciting.
So meaningful.

Scarcity creates demand. Deamnd creates desire. Desire creates purpose. Purpose creates meaning. So yes, the weapon breakage system in BotW is both exciting and meanigful.
