GfK media control does the german charts, seeing the little info we get from these I hope they don't cut away any of the info Chart Track gives away.

They basically are the origin of the charts from every country except the ones controlled by CT (UK, Ireland and Denmark). Spain, France, AUS/NZ etc... and yeah, usually there's little info :/

Let's hope they don't screw up everything.

Ah OK, thanks for the info. let's indeed hope they don't screw with the UK format :-(.

Yeah. There's some discrepancy in the way they work tho. I mean they give detailed charts for NL for instance (ok, only a top 10 but still) with platform specific charts and all, and a shitty top 5 (ok, 2 if you count the PC one) for France, where they don't even have a website but just throw the info to the S.E.L.L (the French entertainment software publishers association).

I don't really get it.

Just a question : have we already got the ELSPA sales awards for the month of June ?

It would be a good occasion to see if M&S broke the 1 million bar.

Isn't that 3 weeks of MGS4, a full month of Wii Play and only a few days of SSBB?

Just a question : have we already got the ELSPA sales awards for the month of June ?

It would be a good occasion to see if M&S broke the 1 million bar.

I don't think we have. Not sure why though, because we got the May one on 31/5 and the April one 2/5.

I think the ELSPA awards are based on their actual tracked data not on an extrapolation of the market, so should represent roughly 9/10ths of the true sales. Its the same for every game but diamond award ~ 1.1m.

Anybody know for sure that's the case?

I'm quite amazed by the turnaround that Nintendo has made in Italy. That place used to be total SonyLand.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

When was Italy a total Sony land? This is a genuine question and not some "sarcastic" (i dont know the english word for it) remark. I know that Sony has done it well in Italy, but i ask since i'm under the impression that i've seen Nintendo (DS and/or Wii titles) titles in the top 10 italian chart for many many months now (i havnt really kept that much track on which position (1 through 10) the games are in though, i have seen some PS2 and PS3 games on top atleast)). I guess it depends on how you define "total" also. How was the situation in Italy when the GBA etc. was selling really well in genereal (was the GBA doing it good in Italy?) by the way? Does anyone know?

Well, ok, "total" was a bit of an exaggeration but Nintendo is doing much better in Italy than they were even a year ago. It's a testament to Nintendo's incredible turnout in Europe, which used to be by far the company's weakest market.

I did an edit before i saw you had replied where i added "i guess it depends on how you define "total" also" :) In afterthought i thought maybe you didnt ment total as in 10 Sony games in the top 10 chart basicly all the time.

Ye, Nintendo is doing it very well in Europe now, no doubt about that, especially in the console department (counting PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii) compared to the previous generation (couting Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox). I still wonder how the sitation was with GBA though, was it something simular to DS? I guess DS is more popular compared to how popluar the GBA was, but i think about how GBA games were charting etc. Were there any charts back then? How did GBA games chart compared to the DS games in recent time/today, or did mostly PS2 games chart instead?

Hm, MGS4 could be out next week. And holy crap at BF being out this week :lol . Buzz' debut is pretty mediocre but it'll sell in the long run and going by Singstar PS3 it seems the audience for this type of entertainment is not there (yet?).

I think back in the days we only had plattform specific charts here in Germany. GB was very popular at the times (I was the only one with a Game Gear in my school :lol ) but it was basically all considered child's play. This has changed with the DS and in regards to software it has taken PS2's place, so it's definetly a plus.

You wouldn't be that surprised if you knew how much Nintendo is marketing their products here. It's really incredible, they're advertising things like the cooking game on the most important TV channels (not MTV :lol ) even during prime time, they're investing a lot in marketing which is probably exactly what they needed. You can see Nintendo ads on TV every month while Sony and Microsoft barely advertise (right now Sony is advertising BUZZ while MS nothing at all from what I've seen personally).

And this is something Europe never used to see from Nintendo. It's quite astouding really.

Living in Australia, I've really noticed the difference. The Gamecube was a dead system here only months are its launch, and you would never see it featured or advertised anywhere. The Wii has managed to become the #1 console in the country, obliterating Gamecube's sales, and can be found all the time on TV, in the paper, everywhere.

The growth in European markets is really tremendous, Nintendo certainly chose the right time to launch an offensive on the continent, and it seems a win-win situation as the growth seems to be only further enhanced by Nintendo's push.

The PS3 only taking 10% of the software pie in Germany with the release of the two biggest titles that are ever likely to hit the console isn't all that spectacular. Still, the NDS is the big story there its set for success the likes of which could previously not be comprehended.

Comparison first half 2007 - first half 2008

PS2 2007: 40% -> 2008: 22%
Wii 2007: 5.0% -> 2008: 14.6%
PS3 2007: 2.9% -> 2008: 10.9%

Mario Kart Wii beating GTA4 made me chuckle. It's only confirmed for the PS3 version but considering the 360 version is not No. 3 in the first half chart and MK Wii is still in the Top 10 I think it's quite safe to say it has outsold it combined. Taken the insane marketing GTA4 had it's quite a laughing stock. Maybe bad word of mouth hurt the longetivity? Because even the mainstream media was full of praise early on (hopping on the hype train).

Other than that the first half year chart comprises of 5 current gen titles and 5 handheld titles (most probably all DS). Other than the Top 3 no names were given.

Ok, thanks for the info! :) Ye, the Gameboy were really popular, i remember that :) I wanted one, but unfortunately i never got one or did get around to buy one myself when i was a kid. I own a GB now though :) The Game Gear had potential i'd say. I remember i kinda wanted it when i was a kid because of the TV tuner that it had. I then imagined that i could watch some porn under my bedsheet so my parents wouldnt know LOL.

Ye, the DS has some titles (especially Brain Training) that makes it a system for everyone. I gave my parents a DS + Brain Training for christmas about 1,5 years ago and my mother still uses it relatively often. She plays that
Germ Buster (some Doctor Mario kinda game)
game that you can unlock in More Brain Training. She also played much Picross as well. I wonder if a new Picross game is comming soon by the way. I would have to buy it to my parents then :)

My GF's addicted to that unlockable as well...her high score is sooo out of reach for me :-(. Doesn't Picross have downloadable puzzles? That should keep your folks going for some time.

Cool that she likes that game too :) I dont know what my mother's highscore is, but i think she have gotten to level 18 or 20 or something around there i think (i'm not sure on what difficulty level though). I havnt tried it myself for more than maybe 15 minutes or so, but i probly got to level 5 or something hehe. My father doesnt play on the DS that much, atleast not that i'm aware of. He probly tries the Brain Training exercises once in a while :)

Ye, i think Picross has the option to download extra puzzles (where are they stored by the way, do the DS has some internal flashable memory, or the game (Picross) itself?), but my parents dont have wireless internet. I've tried to connect to a network that was open in the neighbourhood quite some time ago, but the connection failed. I dont know why. Thanks for the tip by the way! :)

Definitely highlights the software domination that games on Nintendo's systems are having in Europe. It's pretty insane.
