Days 22-23 and 24 (biggest days of the year) are in Week 52, though.
Week 51 should be bigger, but week 52 will hold better than previous years.

Anyway, the battle for New 3DS is lost.

The battle for Q4 looks lost, the battle since New 3DS launch isn't finished yet. This week will tell.

What it needs to do.

It is curious to see someone suggesting the N3DS is failing. From my point of view it surpassed expectations, pretty close to 2013 numbers since the new models launched is too good to be true. The band aid strategy seems to be working so far.

But we are talking about the 3DS strong territory, what would the effects be when the device reaches the other markets?

01./00. [3DS] Yo-kai Watch 2: Shin Uchi <RPG> (Level 5) {2014.12.13} (¥4.968) - 1.244.171 / NEW <84,77%> [Units Shipped => ~1.467k]

- According to Media Create, since next week is Christmas and this game is planned as a present for some people, there're still persons who haven't picked up their pre-order yet. Sellthrough is expected to be higher.

00./00. [PS4] PlayStation 4 Dragon Quest Heroes Edition <H-W> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2014.12.11} (¥53.978) - 38.000 / NEW

- According to Media Create, Playstation 4 software increased 201,17% compared to last week. Second hand software increased 137,86%.
- No numbers for GTAV bundle.

Yeah so the Dragon Quest Bundle made up ~56% of last weeks PS4 HW sales and the GTA bundle likely made up quite a bit of the remainder.

Wonder how big a drop we'll see next Media Create

Whoa, that's quite a bump that PS4 had just gotten, though it's most likely due to the Dragon Quest bundle.

Hopefully, other exclusive games like Bloodborne & Disgaea 5 will convince more Japanese gamers to pick one up.

Cause there is no PS3 bundle.

PS3 is very old now, dude (8 years now). Sony are more focused on trying to get as many PS4 owners as possible, especially in Japan.

[PS3] Godzilla - 60%
[PSV] Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3: V Century - as always
[3DS] 12-Sai. Honto no Kimochi - 20% as it's a kids game, there's no concern

Dengeki Sales: Week 50, 2014 (Dec 08 - Dec 14)

TOP3/PLATFORM

[XB1] Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar Games) {2014.12.11} - 1.730 / NEW
[XB1] TitanFall (Electronic Arts) {2014.09.04} - 325 / 31.928
[XB1] Halo: The Master Chief Collection (Microsoft Japan) {2014.11.13} - 183 / 6.151

They probably shipped less than 2000 copies to retail and still managed to sell less than 10% of that. Ouch.

Like what's the point of such an exclusive anyways?

Earlier games of 5pb's well-received game like Stein's Gate were released as Xbox360 exclusives IIRC, and they sold decently too.
However this time XB1 install base in Japan is a bit too low compared to XB360 backthen, to pull the same effect.

I know it says 40% FD is a normal start for FFE, but I'm curious how that compares to other FF games and the like.

What's the general expected sell-through to become on Wednesday? It's be great if it became 80%+, but I'm thinking 60% for some reason. :(

I'm sure a PS4 and/or Vita version (maybe even X360?) is in development as we speak. After the abysmal Xbox One hardware launch and subsequent weeks of sales in Japan they knew the X1 version wouldn't come close to recouping development costs, they have to release it on one or more viable platforms (and 5pb has an extensive history of doing that). Same goes for the two other exclusives they have in development for the Xbox One.

Also many 5pb./visual novel fans probably have migrated to PlayStation platforms because that's where most of these titles are now.

Minecraft PS4 Edition launches on PSN December 25th: http://www.jp.playstation.com/software/minecraft/

No physical version for Minecraft on any PlayStation platform in JP ...

lol

SCEJ or MS are crazy. MC has sold nearly 200-250k from PSN and theres still no retail release in sight.

Yeah, its very likely PS4 will get this game as a port later on.

It's very likely that everything not branded Nintendo will get a port of 5pb.'s Xbox stuff. Visual novels aren't exactly hardware intensive ...

We heard the same about Etrian Odyssey and look how that turned out! :(

I respect 5pb for at least trying with this console, but it genuinely does seem mis-guided at this point. I wonder if they'll still see through the "exclusivity" of the other games they were developing.

You respect 5pb. for accepting Microsoft's money? ;)

Anyway, I know hiska-kun already posted about that but here's MC analysis for this week:

“Youkai Watch 2: Headliner” sold 1.244 million copies, getting close to initial sales of “Founder/Head”

・ Total software sales were 2.263 million copies, which were 210.80% of last week. Owing to the release of a popular title, “Youkai Watch 2:Headliner,” a ratio of new titles sales to total software sales jumped from 45.20% last week to 65.10% this week.
With a gift demand surging, sales of old titles also expanded to 134.26% of last week, and TV game market showed sound sales for a selling season.

・ Debuting at the top spot, “Youkai Watch 2: Headliner” sold 1.244 million copies for the first 2 days.
It got close to initial combined sales of “Founder” and “Head” (685 thousand copies for “Head” and 632 thousand copies for “Founder”: 1.317 million copies combined), getting off to a smooth start.
Its digestibility rate was estimated to be 84.77%, but its shipment for the next week and later has already delivered ahead of schedule, and, according to some retailers, many customers asked to keep it for a Christmas gift; therefore, the proportion of reserved pre-orders to the whole current stock seems significant, and the substantial digestibility rate should be higher.

・ Due to the launch of ‘Dragon Quest Metal Slime Edition’ (38 thousand units), the PS4 hardware sold 68 thousand units (426.04% of last week), which were second only to the launch week of the PS4 in February this year (309 thousand units).
‘Dragon Quest Metal Slime Edition’ was bundled with a download code of “Dragon Quest Heroes: the Darkness Dragon and the Castle of the World Tree” announced to be released on February 26th 2015, which will be in effect for playing more than two months later.
Probably because many users bought other titles for playing until the release of “Dragon Quest Heroes,” both new and used PS4 software sales rose to 201.17% and 137.86% of last week, respectively.

28./26. [3DS] Gotouchi Tetsudou: Gotouchi Chara to Nihon Zenkoku no Tabi <TBL> (Bandai Namco Games) {2014.11.27} (¥5.626) - 5.759 / 22.992 <40-60%> (+1%)

It seems that this game haven't completely bombed on 3DS. It's some kind of party game with all prefectures' mascottes:

It might held nicely during holidays and maybe deplete the first shipment.

I have to wonder what SE expectation are. They are banking super hard on that XV demo.

True, but I think that's more about them banking on the PS4... aka, making sure the lack of popularity of home consoles in Japan won't hurt FFXV sales too much. Which is probably why they're going all out all their port and stuff (FF7 and the classic FF games they said they wanted to bring).

Which tracker was it that reported Gamecube sales as higher than Nintendo's shipments at one point?
Was it Media Create or Famitsu?

I don't see any issue with this, all trackers have a margin of error. As long as thier margin of error is accurate then you should expect 50% of SKUs to be overtracked, and 50% to be undertracked.

However, the difference in old 3DS sales between trackers seems to be well beyond the expected margin of error. So either one of the trackers made an unreported error, or a retailer tracked by one, but not the other recorded an extremely large increase in sales which has been disportionately upweighted to the whole market. Lacking any evidence of specific retailer promotions on the old 3DS model I'd lean towards the former explanation rather than the latter.

Both trackers showed a spike at old 3DS sales but Famitsu was with one week delay and had an extreme WOW rise.

So apparently, DQX producer really wanted to say something during today's event at JF15, but couldn't, but maybe Horii will say it tomorrow (during the DQX stage event)?

Gee, I have no clue what he's trying to get at.

Yeah, PS3/4 announcement of DQX is long overdue.

Can't wait for round 2 of "Dragon Quest is back home, baby" comments! :p

yes but you have to consider that one is a small shop located in Nakano Broadway where I work

I bought 3D Archives on launch day in Yodobashi East Shinjuku and they had around 20 stocked (but a guy before me also bought it and I bought 2 copies); gotta check tomorrow but already yesterday in Shinjuku there were a lot of people, the winter holiday madness has already started :D
