Famitsu.com has posted the Top 10 now. Monster Hunter 3 is at 3rd place :\ That Gundam game (the PS2 version) is at 1st place and Tales VS is at 2nd place. I wonder if Famitsu overtrack MH3 in the 1st week, since the Famitsu numbers were higher than the Media Create Numbers and the Dengeki numbers.

Hmm...that most likely equals a sub 200K week for Tri. Not especially great.

Bold = NEW

Could be a sizeable drop-off for Tri, then.

For ref, here are the first-day figures for the games in positions 1 and 2:

G Generation Wars - 136k
Tales of VS - 89k

I'm guessing Tri is going to come in at around 120k if those figures are accurate - unless both G Generation Wars and Tales have had a huge increase over day 1. That would put it at around 700k using Famitsu's numbers, which is a nice figure for the game but it does suggest that the million is going to be tougher to achieve unless it holds well.

Yeah unless VS had great legs Tri is probably sub 150K.

"First week sales" are usually referred to as the first week's reported number, even if the first week period cover 2 or 4 days :)

Ye, i guess that MH3 2nd week's sales might be under 200k indeed. I hope that we get the Famitsu numbers soon.

I don't know how much people are expecting MH3 to sell in its second week. Even the most anticipated games like DQIX have a 70-80% sales drop in their second week (and like MH3 DQIX had a 2 days week launch), excluding the ones showing legs as soon as they get released, but there aren't many and they're mainly on portables.

So getting straight to numbers something between 104k and 156k is to be expected for MH3. <104k would be worrying, >156k would be surprisingly good for me.

To put things in some perspective, here are the first week/second week sales for Monster Hunter main releases (not Best versions):

Monster Hunter 120k / 54k
Monster Hunter G 128k / 30k
Monster Hunter Freedom 118k / 53k
Monster Hunter 2 368k / 95k
Monster Hunter Freedom 2 746k / 156k
Monster Hunter Portable 2G 823k / 552k
Monster Hunter G Wii 142k / 34k
Monster Hunter Tri 583k / ???k

All numbers are Famitsu, courtesy of Garaph.

Going by the MH G Wii ratio, it would sell about 142K. However, I expected more because of the 2 day opening week that Tri had.

LOL :lol

Hang on a moment...

EDIT: Here you go. I think the MHG Wii number is out of date, but everything else should be correct:

Monster Hunter 120k / 54k (288k LTD)
Monster Hunter G 128k / 30k (232k LTD)
Monster Hunter Freedom 118k / 53k (668k LTD)
Monster Hunter 2 368k / 95k (570k LTD)
Monster Hunter Freedom 2 746k / 156k (1,720k LTD)
Monster Hunter Portable 2G 823k / 552k (2,452k LTD)
Monster Hunter G Wii 142k / 34k (224k LTD)
Monster Hunter Tri 583k / 138k (721k LTD)

With the second week numbers in, that makes it the best-selling console installment by a mile, although there's no hope of it challenging the two PSP versions for second-best or best-selling member of the series!

Not as impressive as I'd expected, and I think it may take a bit longer to reach the million. I still reckon it will do it though...

Not far off with my 120k guess then. Wonder if it will be tracked higher in the MC/Dengeki numbers. I've added that figure into my comparison above...

OK. Good numbers all around. By Famitsu counts, MH3 is around 710k after two weeks.

Funny how Bahamut and Gundam Wii just narrowly missed the top 10.

Weak MH Tri number. It had a worse hold than MH G even though it should have been boosted by the 2 day first week. Unless next week shows a good hold I doubt it makes it to a million by the end of 2009.

Edit- Will be interesting to see the Media Create numbers though. Famitsu might have overtracked this week..

Any last minute guesses on how the three missing titles did? We've got a pretty narrow range to guess from.

This could either be a very good position holding for Dragon Quest IX or a fairly average one.

Maybe Famitsu overtracked last week, so this week is a correction. Add the 63k difference to 138k and you get 520k/201k week 1/2.

Yeah, it looks like Famitsu probably over tracked. /crazypersontalkingtohimself

Hopefully the standalone SKU "bombing" will tell Nintendo that they need to ship more controller bundles for Sengoku Musou 3, and maybe Koei should be conservative about their first week shipment. It's weird calling the best selling third party game on home consoles this gen a bomb in any way.

I've previously brought up the few games to have a first week over 500K and still fail to reach a million. Obviously this takes a bit of a monster dropoff past the first week. Here's how they did the first few weeks; Famitsu version of reality.

World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 PS2
552K, (two weeks combined of 226K), 37K, 21K... eventual LTD of 923K

Dynasty Warriors 5 PS2
561K, 128K, 71K, 39K, 29K... eventual LTD of 918K

Dissidia: Final Fantasy PSP
504K, 157K, 97K, 44K, 29K... 890K LTD so far
DFF

Going by the Famitsu numbers recently showing up in this thread for MH3's second week, it seems to be like a slightly beefier Dynasty Warriors 5 so far, doing about 20K more the first week and 10K more the second.

Should sell over 1 million first week. That series has an established hardcore base already on PlayStation systems. Maybe even as high as 1.5 million. That's definitely going to be a downturn for the series for what will probably be the most expensive Final Fantasy to date, though.

Eh? These are all pretty normal dropoffs.

Edit:
Maybe you were confused into thinking that the way the PSP version sells was normal for the series on consoles. Different markets and what not.

By the way, this pretty much confirms that the main base for the PSP versions decided not to come over to Wii, to this point.

Definitely, and it's to be expected, since the local multiplayer option, which is a key draw for the MHP games is essentially missing in the Wii version.
