Project Elea is a first-person Sci-Fi interactive storytelling adventure, where the main focus is humanity's place in the universe, the nature of intelligence and the meaning of faith.

Story Overview

Voyager 1231 River Elea Catherine Jones regains consciousness to find herself locked down in her own cabin. Kazumi, the omniscient A.I. host of Pilgrimage II, is offline for the first time in mission history, keeping her blocked. It won’t be long before Elea realizes that everybody else has evacuated and she is left all alone on a Worldtree-class starship.

Playing as Elea, you will navigate the hallways, control rooms and ecosystems of Pilgrimage II, the ship set to colonize Solace, a yet unexplored Earth-like exoplanet. In order to save the ship and uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of pioneering mission Pilgrimage I 15 years ago, you’ll have to aid crippled Kazumi in fighting off an eccentric invasive intelligence that wants to take control, that has been waiting in the darkness of space, preparing...

As Elea explores clues and executes manual overrides to restore Kazumi’s hijacked virtual memory, she will slowly come to realize it’s the lapses in her own memory and the imprints of a personal tragedy that she must deal with first.

Key Features

Immerse yourself in the fully explorable and beautifully created fictional world of Project Elea. Claustrophobic old-school space environments alternate with beautiful vistas and highly detailed interiors thanks to Unreal Engine 4.

A Dramatic Story: Project Elea offers a rich and unsettling narrative, inspired by the books of classic Sci-Fi authors like Stanislaw Lem, Arthur C. Clarke and Frank Herbert.

Interact with almost anything in the game; solve logical puzzles, including periodic physically based distractions.

Constant addition of new gameplay scenarios throughout the game.

Platforms?

Currently, we are developing Project Elea for PC only. In addition, we’re working with Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 (DK2) for VR compatibility. Of course, we’re hoping to eventually bring it to other platforms like Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One and Nintendo’s upcoming next-gen console.

Interesting.

One of the founders of Kyodai and quite old Neogaf member here. Thanks for the thread.

It is a five-man team game (for now) minus the actors. We’re using Unreal Engine 4 and have an ex Assassin’s Creed IV: Blackflag and Assassin’s Creed Rogue developer in our team, along with a 2D designer with a coupe of publicly released mobile projects. We are located in the capital of Bulgaria – Sofia (Eastern Europe).

One more thing, straight from our press-release:

The reason you are making this game?

We love story-driven games and believe the medium can be the next big thing in regard to storytelling. We adore games like Soma, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Gone Home, The Unfinished Swan, etc. Project Elea is our own attempts to tell an asymmetric multilayered story from the perspective of the player. Virtual Reality is another logical reason, because of the level of immersion it can add to the whole package - Sci-Fi and VR are a match made in heaven. Last but not least, even though Kyodai is a new studio, each of us has been a part of this industry for a very long time, so we felt the moment has come to leave our own trace in gaming history.

If anyone has a question or feedback, you’re welcome.

Way too much film grain, blur, ca, lens flare and bloom for me. I'm not sure why everyone's so obsessed with overdoing it. I might check it out if you can turn it all off though.

Looks good so far, interested to see where this heads.

One concern I have is a number of recent first-person adventure games don't have enough settings to combat motion sickness. I see you have the dot, but what about disabling head bob, changing FoV, adjusting motion blur, etc.?

Thanks for the feedback, Gavin.
Our postprocessing profile is far from final, so there will be some visual tweaks. And we are thinking about giving the player opportunity to ON/OFF most of the postprocessing effects.

@dragonzdogma – it’s depends – most of the time puzzles will be logical and we are looking for more intense overall pacing. Elea actually can die in some specific situations.

I will say it like this - if Soma and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture have had a baby, Project Elea would be it.

Seems great, the premise is a bit similar to Alien though. So please prove me wrong guys and give me great twists here and there.

Good luck.

Love the idea, story and visuals so far... Classic Sci Fi literature, heavy on storytelling, it's my kind of thing.
Is 2017 a possibility, or you can't even begin to think about release window goals quite yet?
:)

Will definitely check this out as I'm a sci-fi fanatic but please give us the option to turn some (not all) of the post processing effects off.

I understand your concerns. But even in this stage of development, we are giving the opportunity to change FOV and adjust motion blur from the options menu.
VR version of the game will work differently though.

@SJRB Project Elea is not a horror adventure in the vein of Outlast, or upcoming Allison Road and Visage. We didn’t want to go to the horror route from day one. We want the player to be mostly curious and not stressed. Then again, Elea can die in the game, so It’s not just a walk in the park.

@Elandyll It’s most likely Q1 2017, but we will confirm anything specific at a later date.

Right now, we are preparing a short public gameplay segment, which should debut in a couple of weeks.

And something for Nintendo fans in the end: http://nintendonews.com/news/general/kyodai-hopes-bring-project-elea-nintendo-nx/
