- No xbox 360 price drop til PS3 bites first

If I'm Sony, I get the hell away from the PS3 as soon as possible. I'm not even sure a 100 dollar price drop would spur sales outside of several months.

The PS3 hasn't even hit the €/$199 price point, unlike the Wii and the 360...

2011 Media Create-Japan (26 Weeks)
PS3 627,030
Wii 327,716
360 64,403

2011 NPD-U.S. (26 Weeks)
360 2,423,000
Wii 1,744,000
PS3 1,692,300

2011 Nintendo-Europe (14 Weeks)
PS3 1,090,000
360 760,000
Wii 750,000

Japan+U.S.+Europe 2011
PS3 3,409,330
360 3,247,403
Wii 2,821,716
On a side note,2011 Q2 European sales should be interesting.

Seriously, why would an American college student want to play CoD or Madden or NBA2k? Most of those 360s are probably used to prop up beer pong tables.

You forget those who didn't go out to party the forever alone.

steam annual revenue is around 3 billion if I am not wrong, if we (safely) assume it managed a 400$ million last month, that would amount to 10 million 40$ games. And we know it was sale, so games being much lower than that.

am I correct?
Sounds like you're remembering FADE LLC's estimate of $1 billion for Steam in 2010. Given FADE's connection to VGC, I'd be careful tossing the figures around too confidently.

Nifty little chart but I think people are talking about US sales. I personally think even at even price parity, the 360 will still sell more units. Possible exception is if the U$200 PS3 gets a super slim version and PS2 BC back in through software emulation.

Shadows of the Damned was thrown under the bus, I'm not sure how anyone could have expected anything from it. Which sucks, obviously, because the damn game is fantastic.

I was referring to the incoming students who are a group who would be buying new laptops in mass. Still the amount of students/teachers/alumni buying a $700+ laptop to get a free $200 360 is not going to be a huge amount of the sales for the month.
It's for June, some incoming freshmen will have have school email addresses and even student IDs at this point.

I bet the deal represents anywhere between 100-150k of 360's sales this month. It's a big deal (essentially free), the only real outlier, easy to take advantage of, well advertised... it's going to be decent chunk I think. And i bet it continues into July/August.

lol, yes, I thought sales last month could bring up the sales to 400, just a very rough estimate.

3 billion was also estimate from wiki:

Sales figures for Steam have not been released by Valve. Forbes reports that Steam sales contribute 50 to 70% of the $4 billion market for downloaded PC games

Although Valve never releases sales figures, Stardock, the previous owner of competing platform Impulse, estimated that Steam has a 70% share of the digital distribution market for video games.

Bigger than November and December?
Not that big, but on GOG interplay went on sale and messed up their whole best selling chart, staying up there even after sales is finished till now. Sales really pay of on DD. anyhow, 200 million wouldn't make much difference either. it would amount to almost 10 million games based on each being 20$

Once again, I am a pretty diehard gamer and I have never heard of this game. The profoundly generic name surely did the game no favors either...

I'm a fan of Suda and even I had no clue his new project was even out of development, let alone releasing.

I had not idea it was actually launching until a day or two before it was out.

How did Dungeon Siege III do? Another Square-Enix bomba?

This. I'm interested to see if this was a super bomba. Shame as I'm enjoying it. Oh and WTF EA?! Shadows of the Damned was sent to die. :(

Than why isn't anyone asking for Child of Eden numbers?

With millions of Kinects in the US you'd think "the definitive" Kinect title for gamers would sell well.......?

Because Kinect casuals are content with Kinect Sports and Dance Central?

Sony was smart not to price the drop earlier. I think they will in the coming months but they've sold at a pretty steady rate at 299. At 199 the value is ridiculous.

Red Faction: Armageddon was out in June too, RFG did 199k in June 2009...
Armageddon ultra super mega bombed in the UK and they're usually pretty in tune with the U.S. when it comes to shooter taste.

This is why we don't turn our awesome open world destruction games with interesting multiplayer into linear corridor shooters with horde mode.

Sucks about Shadows of the Damned, EA royally fucked it over. Game was released with absolutely zero hype and no marketing. I didn't even know it was coming out and I was actually interested in the game. Garcia Hotspur deserves better.

So can I, but not only that college students play a lot of COD and Madden and dudebro games. Of course beer pong, parties, and getting laid takes priority, but videogames are higher up on the priority list than actually studying and going to class (for some students, not all of course).

Not bad for Infamous 2. It's a good game, so it will probably have long legs. Shame about Shadows of the Damned, but EA really sent it out to die.

It case it wasn't clear, I was being sarcastic.

Nearly all the college students I know play CoD and/or Madden, a free 360 would be a great bonus for a freshman dorm room.

As for Child of Eden, even the best-selling Kinect titles don't chart every month. I wouldn't expect it to start now.

Worked for Crysis 2.

Don't cross Residen Evil yet, the real one is still coming.

But I don't think the 3DS needs to be saved yet, people is just really inpacient for big sales.

I want a 3DS, but haven't buy it because I'm not waiting for one game, I'm waiting for all those in that board.
3D porn will save the 3DS!

NMH Red Zone is going to bomb hard too. I think NHM1 was a fluke.

Personally, I saw NMH's success as a starving audience willing to champion anything due to software droughts. I don't think the game's very good, nor do I think it would've been as successful if it wasn't when it was.

Oh I wasn't arguing that college kids don't play, I would bet a majority of them already have one, but the promotion wasn't limited to just students. If the 360 gets a full price drop and not just a bundle adjustment (kinect bundle same price as current standalones, standalones go away) its going to melt faces

This includes 386,000 units of the Nintendo DS™ family of systems, 273,000 Wii™ systems and 143,000 Nintendo 3DS systems

Haha its hilarious to see Nintendo now using "the family of systems" with the 3DS, after we saw Sony do it for so many years to cover up lagging PS3 sales.

The tides, they are turning.

Are those good sales for inFamous 2?

well infamous 1 debuted at number 1 but with only 190k units sold if i recall or it debuted at number 2 under 360 Prototype, but the numbers here are much bigger than Infamous 1's debut, so yeah, it's good sales...numbers don't have to be like Halo or CoD to be a success people.

I doubt COE will be anywhere close to being called one of the best-selling Kinect titles. XBLA's conditioned the audience to expect this sort of game as a $15 download or reject it outright.

My opinion is not gonna change just because you're saying 'nope'.

Regardless I don't think MS needs to drop the SKU at all, let alone by half (on the cheapest SKU). As I said earlier in the thread, I believe a U$200 360 will outsell a U$200 PS3.

Doesn't need to change. Mine ain't changing either and yes MS will drop the price this year 100%.
