Those Mahvel rumors. Not sure what to think. If they're fake, it seems strange to come out with this stuff only a couple days before the reveal. If they're real, then i am disappointed in the character choices and numbers. But I'd still buy it...

It's hard for me to complain about inclusions when there are only 4 characters getting in, but it's a pretty lame set of choices overall. 2 MM characters to appease the whiny MM fans? O.K. I understand. It had to be done. Marvel characters are disappointing though. Cyclops and another midget :|

I wonder what his regular costume is like. Probably not
Phoenix Force Cyclops.

Also, I await Viper/Cyke dialogue.

I pretty much feel the same. Classic Megaman is cool and all but with that mention of being "MVC2 like" outside of his Slide Move and a few more Master powers, I can''t help but be a little cautious. MVC2 MM was not my... most fond incarnation of his potential, no lies. :p

Servbot is still a WTF why though when Gene, Ryu/Nina, Jin Saotome, Captain Commando, Donovan, Power Stone Rouge or hell Bass.EXE or TVC Roll (if Capcom felt all "sorry Megaman fans") exist. Marvel side needed a Spidey villain before it needed Cyclops. Antman is a complete "don't know if want," but at least his game play sounds interesting.

I hope Hsien-Ko gets a decent buff/rehaul. That would be the biggest take away for me if any part of this is true.

Him and Cable are two relics of the past(one of whom people want because his viper beam was broke). I tend to root for the characters that people actually liked instead of broken BS. Cyclops falls into the realm of characters that people liked unlike Cable though. That's why I can accept the requests a bit.

There are are way more interesting X-men to use nowadays. We've got like a thousand beam characters, teleport characters and SRK equipped characters as it is.

Analysis of Statistics

*Wesker is the most popular character pick in Ultimate Marvel. He eclipses the rest of the cast in number of picks by a considerable margin, about a value of 20 above the 2nd most popular character. Wesker has about as many appearances in top 8 as the bottom 25 characters in terms of popularity COMBINED!!! Wesker is also the most popular character in Grand Finals but is NOT the character with the most tournament wins.

*Magneto has the best record in all of Ultimate Marvel and is officially considered the best character in the game based on results. He is 2nd only to Wesker in terms of popularity but has much better efficacy as he has the most tournament wins in the game tied with Akuma and Doom. He is ranked higher than Doom and Akuma because he simply has more appearances in top 8 then them.

*Doom and Akuma are the most popular and efficient anchor + assist characters in the game. Their assists have been instrumental in various tournament wins and combined they make up around 2/3 of the tournaments won in UMVC3!

Honorable mentions to Frank West’s Shopping Cart, Sentinel’s Drones, Rocket Raccoon’s Log Trap, Ammy’s Cold Star, Magneto’s EMD and Dante’s Jam Session. These are essentially the top 8 best assists in the game based on results.

*Vergil and Wesker are the 2 biggest under performers in the game based off of popularity vs win ratio.

Wesker is the most popular character in the game by a long shot yet he only has 4 tournaments won vs his 54 appearances in top 8 (a percentage of only 7.4%). Vergil is in the top 5 most popular picks at 25 appearances yet only has 2 tournament wins (a percentage of 8%).

*Iron Fist has a perfect top 8 to tournament win ratio at 100% (2 appearances vs 2 wins). The only two times that someone made top 8 with IF on their team, they went on to win that tournament. The player to do this feat is of course none other than Justin Wong. Iron Fist also happens to be best performer of the low tier characters.
*Hawkeye has the most Grand Final appearances without actually winning a major tournament. Hawkeye also gets honorable mentions as having a top 10 assist in the game based on results as all placing of Hawkeye had him at the anchor or at least 2nd spot on a team.

*She Hulk and Tron have dropped massively in tournament performance and picks based off of the comparison between Vanilla vs Ultimate. Tron essentially hasn’t even broken top 8 yet in an Ultimate Marvel tournament and She Hulk at least has placed top 8 a couple of times. Phoenix has dropped considerably but still has a solid showing in Ultimate. Doom, who had NO tournament wins in Vanilla, rivals Magneto in most number of tournaments won easily having the most improved record going from Vanilla to Ultimate. Haggar Lariat hasn’t been as dominating as it was in Vanilla based on the results.

*Meta game shifts: First 1/3rd of Ultimate Marvel was dominated by Wesker usage but Wolverine wins. Middle of Ultimate Marvel tournament life was dominated by Morrigan, Doom and Akuma wins. Latter half saw the rise in use of Vergil along with a few wins going his way. Magneto was sprinkled all across the tournament life span of Ultimate Marvel making him the character that has survived the best in numerous meta game changes.

*The top 3 characters Zero, Vergil and Viper on most players’ tier lists cumulatively have less tournament wins under their belt than Magneto, Doom and Akuma have INDIVIDUALLY! Value of top assists in the game still matters greatly. The only tournament won in the entire life span of Ultimate Marvel with a team not comprising of a top assist was the very first tournament in Ultimate Marvel (NEC) where most people were still getting comfortable with the game.

*Justin Wong has the most major tournament wins followed by ChrisG at 2nd and FChamp at 3rd. He still remains the most consistent player in Ultimate Marvel just like in Vanilla and from all the tournaments he has entered only once has he failed to not make top 8.

I was expecting a patch to get rid of the infinites and nothing more. An AE of sorts would be quite the surprise.

I wonder who's gonna get the Spencer/Zero treatment (buffs noone asked for). Or, the She Hulk treatment (nerfs to the point of being unplayable)?

Seems like Akuma for the former.

I'm interested in lower tier buffs the most. Buffs only should be the way to go. If, this is true.

Also good shit Dahbomb, a usual. Will add to OP once I get home.

She Hulk was not nerfed to the point of being unplayable. There are just easier / better options..... The same could be said for most of the cast.

Spidey was alright. I liked 1 and 2 better, but the action scenes in Amazing were... amazing. If this Uncanny Edition shit is true, you'd think they'd push some Spidey/Avengers characters on us.

If it undersells, it's because people are tired of Capcom's BS in general. You're not a fanboy if you realize that MM is the most iconic character in the company's history, and should be a given in this game. Besides, I'll take MM fanboys any day over people who want a character in just because of his/her race. This isn't Street Fighter.

My philosophy for any fighter that is as "vibrantly chaotic" as Marvel is that you should never nerf unless its situations like Vanilla Phoenix with no methods to prevent meter storing. You should always buff until everyone's stupid. :lol

Yeah, I know. Second degree brown belt in Shaolin-do Kung Fu remember?

The thing is its such a minor part of the kung fu system to do THOSE punch exercises now in kung fu where its iconic to Karate that its just insulting to throw them onto the character. Horse stance we do like crazy, but when we do it its 90 degree angles on those knees till we get a perfect "L" shape. Karate and especially Tae Kwon Do make a mockery out of what is supposed to be a stance that develops stamina and power in a low stance by barely bending the legs at all. Give him Long fist windmills that march forward through side bow stances if they want a mashable, but not that slop thats become iconic to bastard child martial arts systems. Of course I can't really hope for much considering as Kung Fu as Iron Fist is supposed to be they always treat him as a Bruce Lee Jeet Kun Do tribute so half the time he's doing a boxer shuffle and fencing thrusts like Bruce.

So, if this is true, I'm worried what will happen to Doom. I think they'll make his damage scaling worse, and make Missile like Sent's drones. I don't see where else he'd need a nerf.

Also, Task getting a level 3 would be delicious.

Aside from nerfing a few ridiculous things like Zero and Spiral Swords, I'd be happy if they just went around the table and gave better assists to all the "point" characters.

The twitter account that has listed MM and cyclops would be great choices for characters but I would prefer to have 8 in total. also I would like to see Cable and Gene.

I know all you do is make smart-ass posts Panda, but I'm about making the game more interesting so we can have more viable team combinations. Part of the reason no one picks X-23, for example, is because she and Wolverine both have terrible assists, so they are in opposition to each other. If you give them both good assists, then you can find reasons to have one or the either on your team depending on which has the better assist for your team.

Eh it's a terrible name, but not good grounds for saying it's fake; there are plenty reasons otherwise for saying it is fake.

This would be so good for my theory Morrigan/Doom/Vergil team. Access to Okami Shuffle like THC mixups that you can't avoid no matter what state you're in while running Dark Harmonizer assist? Beautiful.

Because everyone in Mahvel-GAF wants more, no matter how much they want to play the cynic or how outspoken they are against things. This game is digital cocaine and the only way to make it better is more characters at this point. :p
