PAL Charts - Week 9, 2013

Still, if it were just for Nintendo, I wouldn't have praised Ninokuni results, or Persona's debut last week. ;)

I didn't say you were just for nintendo, just that you wouldn't be so hard on the market if it was Nintendo on top instead of the bottom :p

I did read the rest btw and agree for the most part guess I'm just a bit snappy today

One thing I will disagree on though is that the the UK is some sort of exception. It's the only EU country where 360 is on top sure but it's mostly the same games that are keeping it there that are keeping the PS3 healthy elsewhere, and also the 360 is a clear second place in alot of the other territories aswell. It's the same market as PS3 but whether through advertising or services or price managed to overake the other lsimilar box

What else has released? Ni no kuni charted quite well considering zero marketing and strange name.

I don't understand this. How did it do so well. There must have been something in magazines or somewhere about Studio Ghibli's involvement or something..?

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Maybe all the Irish stores don't get stock immediately, assuming you're referring to Crysis going from 13 debut to 2 second week?

It seems it could be a good explanation, otherwise I can't understand why Crysis 3 debuted at 13th and MGS:R debuted outside top 20. So strange.

Maybe there was some delay in the shipments so Crysis and Rising didn't get as many days last week as they should have? (Rising could have debuted outside top 20 last week)

Sorry, I forgot to post the UK market figures last week, I think. If I don't post them here tonight, someone PM me so I don't forget...

It's amazing how GT5 is still on that chart. So many games have come and gone in those 2+ years it's been out. It dropped out of the chart last week but has been on it consistently and now it's back again. If we had a top 40 for the other european countries it would probably be in all of them, last year it was still creeping up on several top 20s. Amazing legs.

GT5 has shown up many times in nordic charts.

Where's Wii U?
Based on guestimation.

Nintendo Land probably sold <1K this week, and weeks prior.

The Wii U probably sold less than 10K all of February - it may not have even reached 100K in the UK yet. I'm not sure whether anyone with the data could share regarding the last part.

Sorry I forgot last week.

Week Ending 23 February 2013: £12.36mm on 496,181 units

YTD 2012 £114.0mm on 5.096mm units
YTD 2013 £92.4mm (-19%) on 3.966mm units (-22%)

Higher ASPs this year are helping revenue keep up better than units, but still significantly behind last year. We'll see how March goes -- I think most of the really big hits for the first half will be out then, and that could bend the curve up a bit.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Surely it should be creeping around that point by now though really, last check in I remember was like 80-85k, so even if it was dribbling along it'd have to have come to an alarming full stop to not break the triple digit k barrier. But who knows! (Wish we did)

All seems to play into the "third platform" of Wii just disintegrating into nothingness/moving to app-mania.

It would have been useful to get some sort of platform breakdown; my inkling is that the major reason for that reduction in boxed software and console hardware would be due to the shrinking of the dedicated handheld market and the decline of the Wii.

Someone posted the numbers in an earlier PAL thread, it was indeed Nintendo who was responsible for the lions share of the decline.

Definitely. Online/Social/Mobile games are the biggest gainers, which consisted of people that would be attracted towards DS/Wii appeal.

Overall the market gained £264M but lost £602M.

Last Feb was the Vita release, no idea how much money it pulled in, probably not very much, but it's something to consider.

- Dead Space 3, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Crysis 3 combined sales less than 275,000 units.

Save us Tomb Raider.

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ reboot of ‘Tomb Raider’ (360/PS3/PC) sees the title debuting at No1 as the biggest launch of the year so far, comfortably outselling previous best this year ‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’ by more than double the week 1 sell-through (in week 7, 2013).

‘Tomb Raider’ week 1 All Format sales set a new record for the franchise, with the previous best actually set by Crystal Dynamics’ first game in this series, ‘Tomb Raider: Legend’ from 2006 with around half the sales shown here. This is the 10th Tomb Raider game in the series (original Tomb Raider launched in 1996, week 43 on Sega’s Saturn, week 47 on Sony’s PS1) and is the first version to launch as an ‘Event’ title (Tuesday 5th March, 2013).

Both the 360 and PS3 versions of ‘Tomb Raider’ set new week 1 records as the fastest selling individual formats of any Tomb Raider release so far, a record previously held by ‘Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness’ on PS2 way back in week 27, 2003. Debuting strongly at No2 is EA’s ‘SimCity’ for PC, the sixth game in the series which dates back to 1989 and which was last seen as a new release back in week 46, 2007 with the fifth instalment, ‘Sim City Societies’. Namco Bandai debut at No3 with 360/PS3 ‘Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3’ and EA bring up the last of the new entries at No4 with ‘The Sims 3: University Life’, the ninth expansion pack for ‘The Sims 3’. EA’s ‘FIFA 13’ drops 3 places to No5 (-32%) and last week’s No1, EA’s ‘Crysis 3’ is forced down to No6 (-55%).
The actual charts don't seem to be up yet.

From what I can find God of War III topped the chart it's week of release in 2010; and received a Silver ELSPA award in April - so 100K+.
