Xbox 360, PS3, PC, XBLA and virtual world projects get funding boost

The Nordic Game Program has handed out DKK 2.5 million (EUR 335,351 / USD 497,913 ) in a second round of funding to local development teams.

Eight projects have been awarded the funds with Swedish outfit Tarsier Studios AB receiving DKK 600,000 (EUR 80,500) for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 title The City of Metronome, and Denmark's Digital Cowboys picking up DKK 500,000 (EUR 67,000) for Xbox Live Arcade game Asteroid Cowboys.

"The recurring characteristics of the successful applications are that they are designed from the heart and are games I'd really like to play," commented Stine Klie of Guppyworks, one of the developers charged with assessing applications.

Frecle's puzzle game Youropa for PC received DKK 300,000 (EUR 40,000), as did UOVO's virtual world Willinilli, Funkis Multimedia's Fishing in Sweden and Secret Exit Oy's rhythm game Cinnamon Beats.

In addition, two other applicants will each receive DKK 100,000 (EUR 13,000) to improve their applications for 2008.

In May of this year, The Nordic Game Program handed out its first round of grants to local development teams at the Nordic Game Show in Malmo, Sweden.

Awesome news. Game looks very promising, let's hope it doesn't get stuck in development hell.

edit: speaking of City of Metronome.

Metronome could well be the Psychonauts of this generation. Don't miss out again, connoisseurs of gaming. Buy Metronome!

So is there a real game here or are we all excited simply because of the art design?

There was a long walkthrough of it released, so it was running years ago. Using the environment and sounds etc.

The fact that they're scrambling for an EUR 80,000 grant to keep going doesn't exactly bode well. Sounds like "on life support, with hand hovering over the disconnect switch."
