Weirdness:
 • 3DS American Mensa Academy has actually had its price RAISED. The title was selling for $3.99 (reduced on 2013-08-01), but it is now marked at $4.99. The eShop lists this as a savings ("Reduced from $9.99"), but it a price increase.
 • 3DS SnowMoto Racing may have its price raised soon -- it is listed as being "normally" $7.99, with a sale price of $5.99. However, the game was released at $5.99 - this makes it sound like the price goes up on January 9th.
 • Joindots has had its games go on sale multiple times over the past few months, but they keep lowering the discount with each sale. Gardenscapes, for example, has a regular price of $7.99. It was priced at $2.00 in the first sale, $3.99 in the second sale, and at $5.99 in this month's sale.

Not actually that important
Mutant Mudds is on sale for both systems?

Is the 3DS version the one to get?

If you enjoy playing with 3D on yes. It really looks lovely, while I found the PSN and iOS version so flat and visually unappealing... Regardless, there's a demo so you can check it out yourself. Wii U's MM Deluxe has more content and checkpoints tho, but personally I'd still go full portable.

Anyway, I'd really love to get Nano Assault 3DS (EU!) and I'd be down for €5 (€7 tops), c'mon Shinen guys! :p

Late response, but I was checking immediately after noon and the shops weren't working for about 20 minutes.

Well, yeah, looks like the eShop was down for one hour or so yesterday :

Service was suspended between the times shown below
due to a server fault. It is now operating normally.
We apologise for the inconvenience.

Time of Fault:

From (approx.) Thursday, 19 December 2013 17:04
to Thursday, 19 December 2013 17:54

Dunno what was the problem, though.

And damn, forgot that Zombi U sale wouldn't start until next week :p

still no Mutant Mudds deluxe for PAL ;(
There never will be. PEGI, USK, OFLC ratings are too much for the developer to handle...plus there is NOE lot check too. You would think NOE would offer help here since they are the ones in need of eShop games (the more the better, anything coming out on Wii U is a success).

Also they went on record that European sales were not worth it but only gave metric of demo downloads to total sales (something like demo downloads were the same in both Europe and America but European sales were 60% of America). If someone has the exact quote that would be great, I learned my lesson from Wiiware of "don't follow these shops, you'll only get upset about what does not come out in your region..."

I wonder if the people behind Kickstarter projects with console & handheld stretch goals are aware of the apparently very high PEGI/USK/OFLC costs.

It's kind of sad that this is the case. Fortunately for me people can play the PC/Mac version of my game. I doubt it'll make it to the EU, but we'll see how it goes once my Kickstarter is done.

So by that logic theyre missing out on 60% extra sales, hmmmmm

Well, things would be much better without that totally useless USK. Seriously, there's already PEGI, we don't need stupid USK. What they should do is have one guy from Germany sent to PEGI so than he can check there's no nasty little nazis in My Western Ranch and not bother small publishers with more useless bureaucratic crap.

Serious, the USK needs to go away. Can't say the same for Australia, since it's not part of Europe, so PEGI would make little sense (though it'd be much better if it also went through PEGI instead).

Well its getting increasingly frustraiting hearing games aren't coming out because 'its not worth it' over the rating pricing and Nintendo checks etc.

Mostly because I can't see it getting any better, only worse from here out. >_>

Huh? Nintendo checks are hardly a problem, dev/publishers don't have to pay for that, they just have to take it into account when trying to decide on a release date. Not that the whole process couldn't be streamlined (like maybe shared lotcheck between NA and EU). The real problem for EU release is the cost of classification.

I don't get that with Mutant Mudds either, they could release it in every European eShop except Germany if they don't want to deal with the idiots from USK. Getting a PEGI rating is not that hard. Missing out on sales just seems stupid to me.

Does NOE even allow you to ignore Germany though?

Actually I remembered, is the OFLC rating for Mutant Mudds multiplatform (like all of them are as it avoids having re-rate when you port it)? In that case they already have the rating (that one is the big financial problem; PEGI is said to be 250-3000 Euro and I can see it being on the lower end).

Huh? Nintendo checks are hardly a problem,
Well the lot checks give Nicalis enough problems that I'm convinced Cave Story is never coming out on 3DS (the proper version; not cave story 3D).

No idea, but I should be able to choose where I can release my game. And if the USK doesn't give you a rating, you can't release a game in Europe at all? Doesn't make any sense.

Don't think they can : that's why there was this weird 'no 18+ content before 11PM' rule in Europe before. Nintendo of Europe is, after all, based in Germany. Maybe I'm wrong. But there's already been releases available only in some countries (like VLR which was only available on the eShop in a few select countries in the first few weeks).

And I don't think Nicalis is a good example : they seem like a terrible publisher, as smaller pubs/devs. have successfully launched their stuff in Europe without insane delays. Maybe someone should've an interview with them, to know why their European output is just plain terrible.

I really liked it. It's a hard platformer. But you can't jump. you switch the direction of gravity.
I played it on the PC though, don't know how it is on the 3DS.

Thanks for the info. Not sure if I'll check it out quite yet, I have kind of a big backlog right now, but I will keep it in mind. Thanks man!

Been checkin' out pics of Shinobi III on Miiverse; the 3D is so good. The cityscape, especially, has a surprising number of layers. Can't wait to nab this one. A great game made better.

Both Toki Tori games are amazing, different from each other, and well worth playing. They're pretty cheap, too.

(Also, do you have Kung Fu Rabbit, The Cave, or Bit.Trip Runner? Those are all great too.)

Toki Tori 1, Toki Tori 2+, Edge, RUSH and Nano Assault Neo are all pretty fantastic. Plus Toki Tori 1, Edge and RUSH are all less than two bucks--all have great music too.

Giana Sisters isn't bad, but the framerate is pretty inconsistent and off-tv play is borked due to a sound issue. The difficulty takes pretty ridiculous spikes during boss battles.

Curse you Nintendo. I just figured something out. If I can't download free things like Demos or Youtube because I'm not making an Nintendo Network ID this means I can not get Pokemon Bank.

Do you live in Europe? If yes, wait a bit : there's 30% off sale starting next Thursday (Dec. 26th). ZombiU will also be 9.99€ during that period, if you're interested... and at that price, I think you probably will ;)

It was confirmed today you needed one anyway. It's probably through your ID email that they'll contact you anyway when your subscription is about to end.

Cool, thanks. It looks like Giana Sisters doesn't have a huge discount anyway so I guess I'll give that one a pass for now. Also just realized: what about Trine 2?

And I asked earlier in the thread but never got a response: is the Cave Story on sale the "definitive" version, or would I be better off getting it elsewhere?

Edit: On edge, is it better to go WiiU or 3DS?

1) Would you be playing Trine 2 as a single player or multiplayer game? SP mode is pretty meh, multiplayer is pretty fun though. My girlfriend and I played through most of it last year. It was her favorite WiiU game until Rayman Legends.

2) Cave Story is probably the best version as well. Look at Ikachan too. It's worth $3.

3) Edge isn't on the 3DS yet. The WiiU version is amazing though. That being said, I can see how 3D would help the game quite a bit

Does anyone know what happens when your 3DS Activity Log is full? Will it not record new stuff or will it overwrite old games? I'm getting awfully close to that.

It just keeps adding pages. I currently have 31 pages (with a recorded 246 games/apps played on my 3DS)

Oh, that's great. Can I somehow add pages manually? I have my stuff sorted a bit, so I wouldn't want to wait until the final slot is filled. Or I guess I could just start some demos or trailers to fill the last slots.

Out of the WiiU sale i got.... Star Wars Pinball!

I love those Zen Pinball tables. I almost bought the Star Wars last weekend.

NOw for $5 i had no excuses.

I have at least 3 people in my friends list who play pinball. If more want to add me so we can battle high scores, just look for Brontossauro

The cat is out of the Muddy bag; the 'Deluxe' content is coming to Mutant Mudds on the 3DS as a free update in Q1 2014.

No matter what DLC we might add to Mutant Mudds in the future, we will never forget our 3DS fans who were the first to embrace Max. :)

Where the hell is Super Mario Bros 3? I wish they would give us the SNES remaster too, that version is so much better than the NES.

Some quick impressions on Swords & Darkness

I beat it after 3 hours, but there were definitely a couple of areas that I didn't access. It has a pretty cool New Game+ where everything carries over and the enemies get stronger and drop more powerful loot. I'm playing through it again in an attempt to see all it has to offer.

It feels like the developers wanted to make a Kunio Kun beat-em-up, but also really loved Demon's Souls/Dark Souls. The action is simple, although you do gain cool new abilities along the way, and the boss encounters are definitely very challenging. I'm finding it to be strangely addictive.

It's next week, at least in Europe. It would be smart if the US got both Mario 3 and Link to the Past on the 26th -- build some hype for the people unwrapping their Wii U's. I can see Nintendo not wanting to draw attention away from 3rd party weeks like Castlevania, but the day after Xmas would be a good time to do something special like that.
