Layton 1 error there :)

layton 1 over layton 2? crazy!

Yes, once again the same error :lol

edit: but the Layton 2 number for the week is missing in the 2ch post...I'll look for it but it should be either 12000 or 13000

Galaxy... I fear it will eventually fall tragically short of 1M :( hope I'm wrong.

A million is pretty much garanteed for a game like Mario at this point.

There has been software, and this is only one week. If it has legs, then I will jump on the boat.

Really? I didn't notice that. Maybe it doesn't have the power yet to support all kinds of niche games like the DS has right now but I sure can see it as a secondary portable market for continuations of well known PS2 franchises. I fully expect Square to continue there support for the platform with some big names actually.

The saga of Wii Fit > Wii hardware continues for the last time. Well depending on just how understocked Brawl is that is.

If it's sold out without even being able to satisfy the pre-orders placed on it, and takes more than a week to be restocked (it's possible right?), then Wii Hardware might not get much of a bump at all with Brawl's release, and Wii Fit will might barely outsell Wii hardware.

Just imagine if Nintendo put out a limited edition Brawl Wii... I think they'd sell every last unit, but I guess just normal Wii's are giving them enough problems.

WiiFit is a beast. At this rate there will be more boards than PS3s in japanese households by March. I hope this means a lot of games are now being developed around it.

Wii sales should spike next week, and will likely remain above competition again in 2008 with Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Common Knowledge Training TV, Wii Music or Kirby coming. All these could be million sellers, or at least system sellers.

I don't even think Nintendo will need to cut its price this year. Which will lead them to even bigger profits. With such volumes sold, I think their production costs have drastically fallen already.

Yggdra Union on GBA did 17728 in its first week, and by the end of 2006 it was at 36172. Nice numbers for the PSP edition (22000).

Wow. This is just amazing! Especially considering its competition on PSP.

I personally don't think the DS has much time to stay above the Wii consistently each week anymore. The handheld's sold over 20 Million, while the Wii has yet to hit its peek. I think at best we'll see the two switch off, or the Wii stay ahead.

Do we think that a price drop can be relevant for the DS at this point? The GBA still had room to drop below this, so theoretically it should be, but... maybe there just isn't anyone who wants a DS and isn't willing to pay the current price. Maybe we'll see one soon now that sales are slowing down?

Why drop the price on something that's selling over 70k a week? Yes, that number isn't fantastic for the DS but it's not exactly like it's circling the drain.

He's being sarcastic.

Its Laguna, its like he had positive PSP comment radar so whenever there's a positive PSP comment he'll know to go and try his best to under mind it.

I wonder if he got it from D-Lo. D-Lo used to do that too until the whole Dracula X fiasco that got him banned. D-Lo probably sold it off to avoid getting banned. Laguna's a lot better at it though. He just comes in and stealth posts. Usually just one or two comments. D-Lo on the the other hand goes for pages and pages on how the PSP should never get any games and that all companies that make games for the PSP is stupid retards.

I hope Brawl puts up tremendous numbers and brings in a big wave of core gamers for the Wii. It's probably Nintendo's most comprehensive and feature packed game ever.

If you drop the price on something by 10% and the sales increase more than 10%, you make more profits?

I taught 6 elementary school classes today. In the classes I taught the lesson "I have...."

One of the questions was "Do you have a DS?" out of about 180 students today, only 17 didn't have a DS. That blew my mind. It also made me think, who is left to buy DS systems? The kids already have them. Core gamers have them (as DQIV is showing).

I suppose the adult market could (and will) be increased but truthfully I expect to see hardware sales slow down and software sales to stay steady. And by go down I am still talking about fairly impressive numbers just not as nuts as it has been for the last two years.

PSP is the system that still has room to grow in Japan. If it does or not is another question but it's market is far from tapped.

Exactly.

It's also a question of what Nintendo's long-term strategy is. If they're planning to replace the DS in 2009, there's not much reason to drop the price now -- they can do that to firesale it once the replacement is out. But I think they'd be crazy to try to push out a successor before they're forced to. In that case, a price drop now could probably boost sales by a noticeable amount for a relatively long time, long enough for them to push another hardware revision (with built-in Flash memory for Virtual Handheld service, maybe?) onto the market.

How extensive is the hype and demand for Smash Bros. in Japan?

As of one week ago (when I last checked) there were no in store displays. No Posters. Nothing. Only a hand drawn sign announcing that it was delayed a week.

However several of my students were talking about it and the local otaku have been yammering on about the game for months. Haven't been watching much TV, but I hear there are add out there.

There is hype but it's far more grassroots than the massive displays for games like DMC4.

Either way, I better get my copy tomorrow.

Indeed. I wouldn't be surprised to hear about a hardware revision at E3.

cvxfreak is there any special top in Famitsu that updates a few titles with January numbers? I just saw an update in the geocities website for a quite a few titles. They have higher numbers than those that cover 2007 so it has to be counting some weeks of 2008.

it sounds like Nintendo needs to bring a redesign again. It should be superior to the Lite in every possible way, otherwise people aren't in the mood the replace their system.

Yep, as Reggie said, 'Wii Fit, is it' :D

I've had a quick go on the Japanese version and it's great, really looking forward to getting it in English. And I agree with the cumulative effect of Nintendo's Wii titles becoming consistent system sellers. They're building up an amazingly strong library in this regard, just as they did with DS.

And if the drop in the sales is just a blip on the radar that's going to be remedied by a future product release or the changing of the tides? I see what you're saying, I'm just not sure it's necessary to worry about dropping the price quite yet.

that's not true at all though.

if widgets cost 90 cents to make and you sell them for a dollar, you make 10 cents per widget. if you drop the price to 90 cents you're not going to make up for it in quantity no matter how many more you sell.

i'm sure the margins on the ds are far better than that right now, but generally, you'd have to see more than an x% increase in sales to offset an x% reduction in price.
