Transfering Pokemon

The Pokemon from the older games actually get transferred if you have Diamond and Pearl in the DS slot and either Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed or LeafGreen in the GBA slot. This isn't trading but outright transfer. Serebii.net seems unsure if the transfer is permanant, but if it isn't, then the obvious restrictions apply: transferring back only Pokemon and items that were available in the GBA games. Only 6 Pokemon per day can be traded, although I'm sure messing with the DS's firmware clock can remove that restriction. The features will probably be accessed after getting the National Dex in Emerald, or repairing Celio's machine in FireRed/LeafGreen. Ruby and Sapphire will probably work instantly. Likewise, something in Diamond and Pearl must be accomplished to read the GBA games.

Diamond and Pearl also connect with Pokemon Ranger, in order to capture Manaphy.

-Yes, the transfer is permanent.
-When you transfer (not trade) the six Pokemon, they don't automatically appear in your box; they're put in a Safari Zone-type place where you have to recapture them. Thankfully, 1) they're the only things living there, and 2) they have some special Poke Balls with a perfect capture rate to get them again, so it shouldn't take long. Not sure why Gamefreak felt this was necessary, though, except maybe to "recalibrate" the Pokemon to check against AR hacks? They had no problem with direct transfer on Pokemon Box...
-You can't transfer another six until you've re-caught the first six.
-It's six per day per cartridge and per card, so... two GBA games could each transfer six a day to one game card, or one GBA game could transfer twelve a day between two cards, etc.

I don't really like the new styles of Pokemon. The Red/Blue generation are still my favorites, because they somewhat resembled real creatures and the theme was consistent. Does anyone else feel like the Pokemon designs are getting more and more extreme and out-of-place? Maybe I'm outgrowing Pokemon. =(

no dont worry, there's been a lot of complain about the new pokemons designs from the fans, you're not the only one

I'm not as deluded as I make myself out to be
I havent played any pokemon since yellow because the pokemon seemed so weird and just not as cute as the originals.

but these past few days I have changed my mind, I look at stuff like diamond/pearl and emerald and the box art looks very appealing, I like the look of these cool looking monsters. I cant wait to catch my own. Ruby/Saphire also look cool.

I think my love for pokemon ust suddenly rekindled and now everything looks hot.

I thought so with G/S/C and R/S/E, but I think these designs are better than those. If you look at the starters as well you can see a resemblance to real creatures in all of them, more-so than the past two generations.

The two Pokemon on the cover do look pretty odd. I'm sure I'll get used to them as long as they don't all look like something out of Power Rangers.

I'm just the opposite: I hated R/S/E's Pokemon more than the rest because they too much resembled real creatures.

But I'm in agreement with the consistency (albeit with, again, a different take on it). In R/B/Y all the Pokemon were pretty fantastical, if fantastical is a word, while still being based on real animals, whereas lately they're trending so far toward the real animals that they lose the fantasy aspects. Butterfree's cleann form to Beautifly probiscus, Arcanine's cloudlike fur to Mightyena's standard fur, Pidgeot's hair plume to Swellow's straight realism, Venomoth's cutesy eyes to Dustox' compound eyes, Rhydon's power drill horn to Aggron's straight realism...
There are exceptions (Seviper/Crawdaunt have a fantasy style whereas Arbok/Kingler are pretty realistic), but it seems like the overall trend is toward extra detail and realism, which to me is a bit disappointing. I can understand the character designers wanting to push themselves, but I do think that sometimes it's simply the case that the more you explain the details of a magical world, the more you ruin it. The day I see individual hairs on a Pikachu or scales on a Gyarados, the series jumps the shark in the same way as when the Star Wars movies explained the science behind the Force.



In any case, though, the D/P Pokemon are honestly the best reaction I've had toward new Pokemon yet. With G/S/C and R/S/E I was put off, but they seem to have gone more back to the basics with the new ones so far--even disregarding the pre-evolutions/evolutions, everything except the legendaries looks just right to me and has the old Pokemon charm... clean and functional instead of over-detailed.
And regardless, as long as the gameplay holds up--and it will--I'm overjoyed regardless of what the rest of the new Pokemon are like.

Are they ever going to actually use voice snippets for the Pokemon battle cries? There should be plenty of room on a DS card for two sounds from each Pokemon, one regular battle cry and one for when it's defeated in a battle. I recall Pokemon Yellow having Pikachu fully voiced. It would just be a little nicer than the artificial sounding stuff from the past games, and I'm sure they could draw most of what they need right from the show.

Good. I too was considering making an official thread with pics and a little FAQ and stuff, so yeah I think this one is a little sparse. But he seems willing to edit and update it regularly so that's good.

People should look at Amirox's 'official' threads as templates for their own. Seriously.

Some new news: (Not confirmed but everyone seems to think it's true)

* The Pokémon you encounter at the start of the game are Mukkuru, Subomi (does that confirm the theory of it being the sihlouetted Pokémon?), Buizeru, Perappu and three new Pokémon of names; Garinan,Samusamu & Maasura
* The first Gym leader, Zack, is a ground type Gym and he has Two Diglett at Level 12 and a Level 15 Maasura
* There is a new attack called Giga Horn

Ok, I haven't played pokemon since Red/Blue sadly, any recommendations on which out of R/S/E to play, and are any capable of transferring pokemon to d/p later on in the game?

Humm.. Just looked at Amazon.jp and it seems they stopped taking pre-orders. Problem with manufacturing or is the pressure really that high for these games. I can't remember this happening to FFXII but I might be wrong (anyone else know?).
